The IPF uses a *29mm* barbell for the squat, bench, and deadlift.

Best powerlifting content in the entire world!

9:02 Absolutely! Looking back in some competition videos, is crazy to realize how much people you never met before scream to encourage you in a tougt deadlift grinder to be the 8th out of 8 lifters in your group, and how much they cheer when you get two white lights! Powerlifting crowds are the best!

Totally! Competing is where you really get to see how great the powerlifting community can be!

Loving this series of videos. At 51 and just now starting out in lifting altogether, I'm really hoping to give competitive powerlifting a shot in 2025. Just signed up for the app too.

I ended up w/ USPA because they do a lot of tested meets close to where I live. Great video 🙌🏻

My friend Tony watched his first meet (WRPF - Pirates of the platform) and saw a 1000lb raw squat. His second meet was watching his daughter at an APU meet (tested). He said it just wasn't the same
@jerrybozenda193427 күн бұрын
Should make mention that for most people, their first meet would likely just be whatever is close to home. May not have many nearby options.
@calgarybarbell25 күн бұрын
Definitely a good point if you don't have all of the options available

Not to be 'that guy', but the IPF requires a 29mm bar, not 28mm as said at 7:56 Great vid though!!
@calgarybarbell27 күн бұрын
Thank you for being that guy. It's crazy that we missed this mistake 😵💫
@themidgetgorilla27 күн бұрын
Not to be 'that guy', but the IPF actually requires the bar to not exceed 29mm and not be less than 28mm. Although most power bars are 29mm now, some,old school bars like the Texas power bar is 28.5mm. 29mm became the norm mostly due to the popularity of the Rogue OPB and probably Eleiko too.

Hey Bryce, is it possible to buy a single program from your app with one time purchase?
@calgarybarbell22 күн бұрын
As of right now we don't have any options to buy a single program, but we do have the 16-week program free on our website if you haven't tried it.

Yes, most people that compete have no chance of winning but it's fun and it's more about improving yourself than beating people
@leonkennedy973926 күн бұрын
You are probably one of the people who should the most. Enjoying something even if you know you probably aren't winning is a good indication you like something. Everyone likes everything so long as they are winning.

You 100% should try competing

There isn't much to "win" in a powerlifting meet anyway. But the process of training for a specific day is fun and good judging will keep you honest. Definitely give it a shot if you're interested.

Worth mentioning te factor in the weigh-ins. The IPF uses a strict 2-hour weigh-in, while WRPF allows a 24-hour weigh-in, which can significantly impact performance and weight cut strategies.

Yes! Definitely a good point that we missed in this one. We'll have to send you our next script to look over haha
