self care and personal hygiene is something a lot of people struggling with mental illness have a hard time with. there's absolutely no shame in it and no one should feel embarrassed or ashamed for not being able to take of themselves during a hard time. i'm here to do it along with you and keep you company so that you don't feel alone and can have a distraction. its gonna be okay and were gonna get through this. :)

This was exactly what my mom did when I lived at home. She would literally have her hand on my back, guiding me through all of my self care and she would sit on the toilet lid talking to me while I showered. This is no joke exactly what I need. My mom passed away a month ago, it was just the two of us against the world, no one else. Being alone all of a sudden, living alone in our home... made it incredibly difficult to do most tasks, since no one was there to keep me on track. I spent the first 10 days without leaving the bed, I didn't even eat, showering or brushing my teeth wasn't even on my mind. But things started to get better, very slowly. I realized that she would've wanted for me to be okay. To be happy and healthy. She was a dentist, and I remember that every night when I don't want to brush my teeth, and I force myself to do it. She would've been proud of that. I cry every day, I miss her every day, and that's okay. It's hard to think that I don't have a mom anymore. Hard to think she won't see me graduate, marry, have children, or silly things like she won't get to see how the seeds we planted last season bloom. But I have to keep going, for her, and for me. For us. I miss you, mom. I love you.

I know it's sad, but I literally got single-use toothbrush/toothpaste things to keep in my nightstand and baby wipes to clean out my pits on my middle days. I'd say bad days, but let's be real, bad days are days I do literally nothing but breathe. So they're just the middle days. My average ones. And I think it helps! You're amazing!!! Also, I have a way to help with cleaning depression rooms. Just do this when you feel okay enough to do this, or you're motivated. 1. MAKE YOUR BED! 2. Pick up all green and blue items 3. Pick up 10 random things. ANYTHING. 4. Pick up anything red, pink, and purple. 5. Pick up anything paper, trash, or food related. 6. Pick up anything else 7.clean your floors. I know you prob wont see this, but you make my day!!!

I really like sectioning things off like this! My current process looks like this: 1. Make Bed 2. Pick up all trash and put in trash bag 3. Pick up all dishes 4. Pick up all clothes 5. Start at door and move clockwise around room. If I I’m not able to put something away yet or I get analysis paralysis, I throw the item to the part I haven’t gotten to yet I never thought of doing things by colors but I love it, and I bet it makes the room look less overwhelming as you go along

I wish I had this as a teenager. I got bullied alot at school because I never showered and would wear the same clothes over and over again. These clothes were really baggy on me too and my shoes were 2 sizes too big. So I got picked on alot for that as well. None of the kids realized how my parents and family were treating me at home, which is what lead to me being so dirty. I'm glad I am away from all of that now. I'm 26 now and very healthy. Please do not judge others who may resemble my old self. You don't know what they might be going through❤

Yes, I grew up severely depressed, like from 11 years old on. I was maladaptive daydreaming and dissociating all the time so my hygiene wasn't the best. I remember being SUPER unwell in high school (I won't elaborate on that in case it's triggering for anyone) and someone sent me an anonymous Facebook message telling me I smelled and that everybody was talking about it. It just made my anxiety and depression worse and I ended up homeschooling until graduation. I'm not nearly at the level of depression I was back then and still think about that message whenever I take a shower. I'm hyperfixated on my body, if I smell, and if I go a day without doing so I feel disgusting. I say all of that to say, yes! It's so nice seeing people talk about this, not just Peach, but reading all of the comments from others who can relate

That was so helpful. I have anxiety, adhd and depressions. It is 2 days before christmas and I got sick for the second time this december. I am so tired and burned out from university, which makes me a easy target for viruses. I slept many hours today and woke up still sick (my whole throat is infected and burning). I felt so gross, because I was supposed to shower yesterday, but couldn't and was sweaty because of the fewer I ran at night. Usually podcasts or music are enough to calm my shower anxiety, but after an anxiety attack last night I needed something like this. I typed in shower + depression and found this video. I followed the whole thing and feel so much better now. I truely love my body, but as you said, taking care of it can be so hard. I hope everybody who is reading this has a good day and knows, that it is okay to feel unwell. I see you.

Like a probably most of the people here, I haven't showered or bathed in a long time. Anxiety and ofc depression have taken a pretty big toll on me recently. I still live with my family so when my parent leaves the home for multiple days, my task is to do a bunch of chores in the days they are gone. We'll that's actually pretty bad that they're gone cause without the constant fear of disappointing them in the immediate moment, I have nothing to distract me from my very VERY crippling depression. I've haven't really left the bed for 3 days straight again and my muscles are sore. So once again. Thank you for giving me some kind of motivation to take a mf bath ♡

Rather than self destructing, looking for helpful videos like these in itself is a step in the right direction. It's so hard to do self care when you feel like you've grown up fundamentally broken. It's so damaging. Like you can't even live right or even love right. I'm glad I found you, watching people with more outgoing personalities than my own feels very balancing for me. I appreciate you. ❤️

Media (sometimes) likes to portray mental illness as this really cool and pretty thing, but it is not. It is not about being a little bit sad. It is literally so scary and hard to deal with. In my experience I learnt you can become physically ill as well if you don't take care of your mind. That is why I love the concept of selfcare. This way I can recover and also be there for my friends and family. I also feel like depression taught me things like gratitude and living day by day. (I try to make the best out of those dark days). Thank you for making these videos. They are really helpful. ♡♡

Admitting getting in the shower can take two weeks is HUGE! THANK YOU * SO * MUCH!!! I have NEVER ever heard anyone valid that via experience! & that breakdowns get bad enough consistently enough that they may be traumatizing and has been humiliating at times for me. Seeing a beautiful girl I admire be “not normal” helps.

I've always struggled with keeping up with hygiene. Dental hygiene, showering stuff, etc. I struggle to get the motivation to do so. And, I've seen people call others "disgusting" because they don't shower everyday. That brought me down a lot, because I rarely shower twice a week. Also, I say showering everyday isn't the best. I've been told to shower every other day. But, I don't have enough clothes for that, and I don't feel like it. Thank you for making this video :)

This is so helpful! I tend to over do it when my adhd hyperfocus kicks in and then i get over tired and struggle to work my way back to a daily routine. Body doubling is magic for me - the whole time watching you brush your teeth, I could _feel_ how nice it is to have clean teeth and suddenly *had*to brush mine (when just minutes earlier I couldn't be bothered). And it's so much more restful when I'm clean in my bed 😄

Tbh I think finding a way to still manage ur hygiene while dealing with something like that is really good and it deserves respect no matter how unconventional it might be, I see it like any other disability or illness, lots of people need to bathe differently because of physical limitations and psychological limitations are just as serious so we shouldn't expect ourselves to take them less seriously just because other people don't get it, you're looking after yourself, that's all that matters

Hey, as someone with inattentive ADHD and depression, I find your videos SO helpful. It's really nice to know someone else struggles with doing basic things like getting out of bed, taking meds, and brushing their teeth consistently. I also love your style of motivation, like, it's so soft and chill, whenever I see other motivational videos they just make me shut down further because 1. they're going in with the assumption that you can already do things like getting out of bed and they make it sound so easy. and 2. they make me feel like I'm already failing at life, and yeah, maybe I am, but these videos make me feel so valid and take into account the struggle of getting out of bed and taking showers. So thanks, you're doing great, I think you're really filling a gap for gentle motivational videos catered to people who are having a hard time and need something softer.

Just a tip or two (from someone who really struggled with it), set a timer for just 5, 10 or 15 minuters. I am often already done with it by the end but otherwise just stop! Hi little tip you may already do but I just chuck all my dishes in the sink then the next day I put water and soap over them, sometimes I leave it a week sometimes longer but by the end all I have to really do is rinse them I never dry my dishes tbh I just leave them there but it really did help me. Cos I think of it as it'd cleaning without me even having to move xx
@monicas2461
@monicas2461 3 жыл бұрын
I know it’s not good for the environment, but if it helps you feel less overwhelmed… lay plastic wrap over your plate, when you are finished just peel the wrap and throw it away. The plate will still be clean. We learn that for natural disaster emergency training. It’s a personal emergency when I’m in a dark place. It’s similar to the 5, 10, 15 minutes approach, but sometimes I will convince myself to wash only the cups. Sometimes I can wash the bowls too, sometimes I can wash everything. There are times I only wash the cups, but that’s nice too.

I do still need to get in the shower but that's ok. She's so amazing and her realness is so comforting. I hope she stops drinking and I only say this because even though I can't get my ass in the shower I am coming up on 26yrs sober. Funny when you stop drinking you don't ever have a hangover or get a dui🤣👍 But I'm so happy I know of Peach now and WOW what a pretty voice and wonderful personality she has.
