In the journey of making this video I got a whole new respect for Giovanna. On top of that in a way I now feel she's the most "street fighter" of all the characters in that I feel she's the one who can closest approximate the SF feel in terms of footsies/whiff punishing all that. Funny I guess because as we all know just by her look she'd just as easily fit in any King of Fighters game without anyone blinking. Anyways Giovanna is super cool and I dig her a lot more now!

This man is right on time! I just got back into strive after taking a small break. Since the latest patch, one of my main combos with Gio now only works in the corner/on big guys so I'm having to relearn her myself. Fun fact, I think yesterday was "technically" her birthday

Sensei Rooflemonger with the good education. I never figured out how to beat Stroke the Big Tree on Potemkin so having Gio in my pocket as a backup for this will help in particular. You do super well with these, I'm glad we've got someone like you putting in so much effort to boost the FGC.

When it came to Giovanna archetype, I also thought that she wasn't exactly a "rushdown" character. To me she felt like a defensive "footsie" based character that explodes on you with pressure after a whiff punish. Comparision wise she felt like a mix between Karin Kanzuki & Chun Li's playstyle from SFV.

I'm coming off of Street Fighter 5 as a Cammy main and Gio just seems like such a perfect character for me. Everything from her playstyle to her aesthetic is very appealing to me. I suck at fighting games (yeah... Im a button masher). The last one I played was almost 15 years ago in an arcade with friends. This weekend I saw GGST on xbox game pass and decided to check it out. This character Giovanna caught my eyes because her moves are in Portuguese, my native language. This video taught me a lot of things. It got me really excited to get good with this character. The way the video is presented makes me think I can be, as a casual, leveled between average and good (at least with Gio). Thank you very much!!!

One underappreciated use of her spiral arrow move is using it for quick movement across the stage even when you won't connect with the enemy. The recovery on this is almost nothing and it quickly takes away your opponents space, and many times you can press quick buttons right after and get the hit. This is especially good to switch sides with your opponent when they are jumping high in the air, giving you access to a surprise crossup that gives you very favorable positioning

I would not recommend using Travao as a mobility option most of the time since good players exploit this fairly. Millia, Chipp, May and Ram are susceptible to countehitting you with their air normals while you're in or you're finishing the Travao animation. You'll see this especially in longer sets against capable players. Simply dashing accomplishes the intended affect of what is being said here. Yes Travao is fast when it actually comes out but it's 27f startup of the move just offsets that. Just dashing will yield similar results with the added benefit of allowing you to react quicker since you can act out of the dash, control the exact distance if you plan on crossing up your opponent and just have more options in general. There's a reason why you very rarely see this used in neutral to gain space by high level Gio mains like TY and Lox because it's less consistent than just dashing and being able to react instantly by blocking, canceling into a normal or jump. This is best seen in TY's matchups against Millia where he will pursue her by dashing on the ground instead of using Travao 90% of the time. Travao should be used to surprise your opponent as a mobility tool or in a specific matchup/strategy like Ky, so should not be used carelessly like this. You do not want to be whiffing Travao. If you're using it, make sure it hits.

​@@timaragon sometimes you must just let it rip bro, playing with your mind is good but you must listen to your heart sometimes to take your opponent off guard. Your analysis is nice but there's something to be said of just doing stuff to disrupt the patterns of what your opponent thinks you will do and this is a very useful tool to do just that in my many hours of playing gio. Also once you master the spacing you can stop right in front of where their normals will be, exploiting many players built in reaction which will be to 6p or mash out, allowing you to then whiff punish them. Mixing up your movement options allows you to short circuit your opponent sometimes and you can quickly rotate between them if your enemy starts punishing a particular one, like adding in dash install 2d to counterpoke once they start anticipate travao

@@Fork-a-nature Heart/feel based players still need to use their head and even then, Travao is the least reliable option since dash gives you more options as I said before. Because all you need to get in with Gio is dash block, dash into normal or dash jump IAD if you want to avoid the neutral/whiff punish game. If letting rip works against your opponent then you don't need Travao and can use jump ins and dash instead. Travao should be used to catch them off guard like you said, but you should not be whiffing it like you suggest. There's 15 frames of recovery if you whiff the move. Anyone who has done their lab work can punish this considering how far Travao goes and the likelihood of you being at least round start distance from them or closer. You getting a whiff punish off of a Travao that doesn't hit an opponent is them just not punishing you or correcty choosing the right option when there's 15 frames of recovery. In comparison, f.S which is usually the move enemies are looking out for to whiff punish Gios and it's 16f of recovery. That's not even considering how easy it is to hit Gio out of Travao with many 5K or f.S buttons beating it outright on top of 6P.

I just have a issue with Giovanna's loops: when i do 5k > jHs instead of jHs i put out 6Hs. Don't know why, even looking at the command inputs i do a straight 9 but it count like a 6, and it does it only after 5k, if, for example i do a CS it came out jHs smooth. Maybe the problem are mi freacking big fingers, i dunno XD
