I'm 17 now, and looking back when I had guinea pigs (when I was around 7) I think I made a lot of mistakes with them, such as picking them up too much and not giving them enough fresh vegetables. I'm looking forward to getting another pair of guinea pigs and hopefully being much better with them this time around. Oh Sarah, the girls were soooo adorable!!! Sprite's yawns and her falling asleep in the end was just too much cuteness!!!! Love them!! This was such a great video with great tips! snoozing sprite is adorable! My ace used to do that too. I can usually decipher purring/burring sounds based on the context. If my piggies are relaxed and calm while being petted, I tend to assume they're content. They also made little squeaky sounds while being petted. Baozi used to coo like pigeon, lol.

I really have to say thank you for all these videos, even though they are several Yrs old, its really helping my husband and i since we are new to Guinea Pigs. We gave our piggies Cucumber for the first time last night and decided to let them sit in our arms and eat it. It really went well. they happily munched away and let us give them little pets while they ate. We have only had them a week now and they are babies so its been a learning experience for all parties involved lol. I haven't gone through all your videos yet but if you're still making them i would love to see something, about introducing and bonding with other/bigger pets. We have a very large dog shes seemed ok with them so far and they go to the edge and sniff each other through the bars I just worry we might be doing something wrong that would make it easier for them to bond. Also this is the first video ive seen your face you are really a beautiful woman you look as sweet as you sound.

I've come to associate the rumbling with irritation/fear/discomfort. Mine used to do that whenever she would hear loud noise or was petted in the wrong way, like on the rear, which is known to be a vulnerable spot for them. The squeaks seem to range from stress-induced to neutral/asking for food. Basically I've come to the conclusion that a silent pig is a happy pig.

Here,s one tip that worked wonders for me (wish I could solve the problem of making an apostrophe appear just as easily). It,s simply this-- 1. After you,ve picked your pig up and are about to set it down or back into it,s cage, it will bolt and try to squirt out of your grasp as it comes to the desired place. Usually it tries to get away twice--1st about a foot above the ground and 2nd when it,s a couple inches away. 2. Do NOT under any circumstances let your piggy think he,s escaped your grasp! Hold it firmly (without squeezing its stomach or inflicting pain) at both of the locations mentioned above. You might say with each escape effort: "NO. Be still Sparky" (or whatever your pig,s name is) 3. Repeat every day. Be consistent. Don't be surprised if within a week or two your piggy is like a choir boy or a nun each time you say "be still!" He or she knows that the reward will be it,s imminent desired release. These little animals have the ability to postpone gratification until the right time. I don't think a mini-pig (and some humans) can be taught to see that far ahead. Mini pigs are little narcissists who immediately want to do a trick for a treat. I guess a guinea pig,s learning manners is its trick, and its treat is being able to come in with a smooth and polite landing.

I usually keep my more tame piggy ( of which is my profile ) out for at least and hour or half an hour, I handle her on my bed so I usually use the blanket i bought for lap time. I keep my other piggy ( Shadow ) out for half an hour at most because she has a more solitary personality ( she is still a sweetheart thou ) Great video by the way! ❤️❤️❤️

thanks these are great tips i was a bad owner and dident take them out and cuddle with them and after a year (really sad) i finally realized that they dident feel the love they deserve and im immediately thought and was completely overwhelmed with the feeling of sadness that they werent loved as they "used to be" so i guess this video is giving a fresh start thank you so much and i was wondering when a guinea pig bites you i mean penny does it all the time but she doesn't seem mad she just does this wierd thing like gnawing but i think its because i just had a hand full of carrots in my hand :}

My guinea pig, Maves, doesn't like being held but he loves being petted and he loves having floor time. He will come and sit on my feet until I pet him and then he will lay down and stretch out. I can definitely tell the difference between his happy purrs and his unhappy purrs. Typically, the unhappy ones are quick and a bit louder while the happy ones are softer and more drawn out.

First of all, let me just say that I love your videos! I will be getting my own pig in about 5 days (on October the 10th), and I'm extremely excited! Your videos have helped me learn a lot about guinea pigs, and are probably the reason that I started wanting them! Anyway, I'll be getting a Peruvian guinea pig, and she'll be about a month old. (I've already decided on the name Greta for her). I've done my fair share of research on guinea pigs and how to take care of a young pig. I think one of the biggest things I'm worried about is bonding with her. I'm hoping that by using the tips you shared, I'll be successful in taming young Greta. :) I have a question: Do you think that because she is young pig, it will be easier for her to trust me, or harder? thank you! My 2 pig sisters are from the shelter and one of them is really scared. Neither one likes to be picked up. Today we made a huge c and c cage so I literally got in it and sat with them and fed them cilantro. They came right up to me. So that is the plan from now on, until they learn to trust me.

My goodness! They are adorable. I have recently been checking out Guinea pigs and see how they are like pets and all the costs and everything. The more videos and info I check about them, the more I want a pair! I don't know if I'm allergic to them, all I know is that I'm very allergig to cats and a bit allergic to dogs and horses. I've never had a small animal like guinea pigs or rabbits and not sure how I will react. Hopefully I don't react much and can have them soon one day!

I know I'm late. But I just got one too. 2 days ago. 🤷 Can't say mines the one who's too scared to come out & eat. But I still can't bribe the rugrat w/ even treats. Like a banana. Also, the trusting blinking thing cats do, is that the same for guinea pigs? 🤔. And even tho I get grossed out about animal pee :/ that's prob even an unintentional bonding moment. If I was a mini animal, I'd be thinking, "🤔 well, if the giant we're to flip on me. I guess this would be the time. But they haven't yet 🤷. What are you supposed to do when they poop on you? Because my guinea pigs poop on me when I bring them out and my mum doesn’t like it when they pee or poop on me whilst I hold them

A blanket or fleece will catch poops easily, you could get a waterproof fleece lap pad in case of any pee accidents! Or I just have a cardboard box with newspaper and hay in for them next to me when I have them out for cuddles, pop them in the box after they've been out for 10-15 mins and they should pee in the box rather than on you 😊 most pigs only pee on people when they are really desperate!

How do i know if i give my guinea pigs to much veggies, or if there over weight?

Half a cup of veggies per pig or less is the recommended amount. Signs of being overweight are being less active, not being able to feel the ribs or backbone (as the fat layer is too thick) and possibly developing fatty eye. Feeding to many pellets (rather than hay or fresh food) and treats is the main cause. You should also weigh your guinea pig weekly and keep a record of their weight. Losing weight is usually the first sign of becoming ill so tracking their weight is very important. It might tell you when they are getting a bit too chunky too!

Hi love! I just got a guinea pig and the little boy is scared to death, which i understand, but he seems to not want to take any food or eat any of the food or hay i have for him in his cage. He has been in his hiding place for quite some time and does not want ANYTHING to do with the food I've set aside for him! I'm scared he's too afraid to eat and I've tried to leave him alone but he won't come out and i really need help!
