I'm a huge Mayer fan and while I first watched this performance I was totally expecting him to overshadow Keith. But I had no idea Keith was such a killer player himself. Those licks were amazing.

I can't believe so many did not know how great Kieth Urban is. Based on these comments he might be the most underrated player in popular music.
@ToddSauve7 ай бұрын
@@marcavus1 It is mostly because he sticks to the modern country style and that has a limited appeal to most of us. But when he slides over to the rock and blues side of the road _watch out!_ Glenn Campbell called Keith the best guitarist in the world before he died. And Glenn could play virtually any style of music and really knew his stuff! 🎸🎸🎸😎👌👀💖

@@marcavus1 Agree. I've been watching KU for many years. He's a major player. I think many don't know of his playing that much because he's a country music guy, but he can rock with the best of them.
@RDLACHICA4 ай бұрын
I just don't like KU putting that much country flavor in the song. It is still a Beatles song, so it should not lose its rock n roll approach. Even Keith's singing is really country. as a true Beatles fan, I always look for the Beatles intent/approach to it. Country is a 180-degree turn from the Beatles.

I have been waiting for this video to drop for years! Finally!! My favorite part of this live performance is that this was during the time when John Mayer was having issues with his voice. You can see John feel his voice going out at 5:07, looks to Keith, Keith fills in seamlessly. These two have the best chemistry on stage.

When John starts singing and backs off, Keith picks it up and runs with it... that's so cool! Bandmates looking out for each other. I'm totally hearing John channeling the great Derek Trucks from his performance on Midnight in Harlem at about 17:20. It made me think of the now famous video of them together with BB King. I think John, as a student of music himself, was particularly moved by Derek's playing style and emotive note choices. I think it's a feel that a lot of us strive to emulate. Both John and Keith are amazing players and songwriters in their own right.

Gotta disagree.. John's playing is great as always but predictable and nothing new. Seen him (and many others) do what he does here a million times. Keith is coming with a totally different approach, and almost every lick is unpredictable, refreshing, and inventive as hell.. Very cool to see this video. I can't imagine other players out there, who aren't fanboys, not thinking Keith clearly got the best of this exchange. I'd be willing to bet even John himself would tell you that. It seems so obvious; beyond Keith's playing, the entire intention of having him out there was to drop jaws.. Mission accomplished...
@shankrl1 Жыл бұрын
@@garethmurphy8235 yeah that is fair to say. I think Keith shines because he has John to bounce off. John is this good on his own, Keith is only really this good with John (from what I’ve seen) John does tend to elevate those around him though. But it’s not a competition anyway, they are both incredible and play so well together. Have you seen their Crossroads show?
