REPAIR: HEAT SURGE X5C Portable Electric Fireplace Heater (Amish Cabinet)

Someone left this Heat Surge X5C with a hand made Amish cabinet on the curb in my neighborhood and today we're going to open it up and fix it. It looks like a common issue on these is failure of the fan, so we'll definitely check to see if it's the fan. We'll show how to clean it and lubricate the fan bearings.

holy crap. i used to have one of these back when i lived in a trailer park! that particular beep and the set of LEDs brought back a lot of memories. mine had the same electronics but a completely different chassis

I just bought my first (used) one last week... I liked it so much I got 3 more. Unfortunately each one had something wrong with it and were *filthy* absolutely caked in dust. I ended up doing full teardowns and kept two of them out of the mantle and put them in my fireplaces. I think the flame effect looks really good-- better than the electric log sets I was using.

Brad if you put the main unit in the fire place you can make a speaker cab out of the main frame of the heater , just make a baffle board for it and close off the back .😆😆that would have been my first thoughts if I seen that in the trash .

Nice find/ repair I think that was the Chinese Amish who made that part. I bought a hand made childs high chair from Amish its quality made wood took a few months to be completed.

Oh man, get yourself a DeWalt drill and use that for removing screws, they can turn very slowly too, there's a lot of control. This video would be like 2mins long if you had one and it saves your hands and wrists

Put some insulation over any windows in your basement. You would be surprised how much heat you lose through the windows. Ha! I have one of those. The switch crapped out a few years ago.

the reason people put these items on the street corner is not because there is no one to repair electronics. Electronics repair has declined due to lower price throwaway items that satisfy cheap consumers current purchasing mentality. 10 years ago pc repair stores had constantly full shelves of desktop towers being fixed. its not uncommon today to have to tell 5/10 who walk in the door their 69$ tablet is not repairable and then have them complain they spent good money on it as if it were a 600$ investment. Will someone pay 100$ to repair a 115$ heater? its not worth your time for much less, and the customer could have a brand new unit for 15$ more and not have to wait for an unknown quantity. I find this sad because everything is on a street corner waiting for a landfill in no time, but it is becoming a more true reality in certain markets.

Cool! …or hot, actually. Since I live in California, so as not to pollute the atmosphere, we have “no-burn days,” which is damn near every day. So, since my fireplace is basically unusable for burning wood, I stuffed one of those inserts in the fireplace cavity just like you alluded to and burn electricity instead of wood, thereby saving the planet. Yeah.
