I'm getting emotional. Anand was the first Indian GM and he finally got overtaken by someone, someone who's breaking into the top 10. Someone who was born during Anand's prime and probably looks up to him. It's poetic.

Anand is going to play tata steel india, if his tournament goes decent, he can gain a few elo point to reach 2760-ish! But again, if Gukesh does well in this world cup, we can see him in 2765+ before he is up with the top guys! A couple good tournaments and we can expect a 2770-2775+ ranking of gukesh by the end of the year. he's currently 2756.

In a triumphant tale that unfolded on the hallowed chessboard, Gukesh, a prodigious young chess maestro, etched his name in the annals of Indian chess history. With the grace of a seasoned virtuoso and the spirit of a fearless challenger, he embarked on a remarkable journey towards claiming the coveted title of India's No. 1 chess player. Amidst the flickering glow of dimly lit chessboards and the atmosphere charged with anticipation, Gukesh's meteoric rise was nothing short of a modern-day fable. Like a phoenix ascending, his unyielding dedication and tireless practice transformed him into a force to be reckoned with. With each move, he weaved a tale of strategic brilliance, positioning his pieces with a masterful touch that left his opponents awestruck. As the FIDE World Cup 2023 unfurled its drama, Gukesh's prowess shone like a guiding star. Round after round, he faced off against formidable adversaries, his focus unbroken and his resolve unwavering. Each match became a chapter in his saga, a testament to his unwavering commitment and relentless pursuit of excellence. In a defining moment that will forever be etched in the collective memory of chess aficionados, Gukesh's final move in a crucial round reverberated with profound meaning. It was a move that encapsulated years of dedication, sacrifices, and an unquenchable thirst for victory. The cheers that erupted were not just for a single move, but for the culmination of an extraordinary journey that saw Gukesh dethroning a chess legend to ascend to the summit of India's chess hierarchy. With this remarkable feat, Gukesh didn't just become a numerical No. 1; he became a symbol of aspiration, a beacon of inspiration for countless young minds who dared to dream beyond limits. His story exemplified the essence of sportsmanship, resilience, and the relentless pursuit of one's passion. Gukesh's rise to becoming India's No. 1 chess player echoed across the nation, a testament to the power of unwavering determination and the magic that unfolds when a prodigious talent meets an insatiable hunger for success.

At 4:00, you say "with the pawn to f4, the position either gets blockaded or it forces Gukesh to play exf3 en passant, which he does. You don't have to do it; you could maybe try to re-maneuver the light-squared bishop over to this diagonal somehow, or you could just put the bishop on f6..." Wrong. You have to do en passant. It's part of the rules of chess.

When white traded his black square Bishop with the Knight, that small advantage was enough to force the rest of this game, and dark squares were not usable for white. This demonstrates how far these guys are above almost all other humans in this game.

I would NEVER play poker with agad, if only for the way he said “why would anyone lie on the Internet?” without even the faintest of winks.
