Gulmit-Shishkat Bridge is located at a distance of 5km from one of the most beautiful lakes in the world, Attabad Lake.
This gorgeous bridge is built on the Hunza River that connects the towns of Gulmit and Shishkat.
This 480 m (1,570 ft) long bridge is also called The Friendship Bridge representing the long and strong friendly ties between the two nations of China & Pakistan.
Gulmit is a centuries-old historic town, with mountains, peaks and glaciers. It is a tourist spot and has many historic places, hotels, shops and a museum
The scenery around this bridge is mesmerizing. Towards the north Passu Cones are standing tall and majestic.
Gorgeous Attabad Lake is at the south end and the mountain of Hunza river valley run parallel to the bridge.
The bridge was built after the realignment of the Karakoram highway. The realignment restored the road link between Pakistan and China.
Construction of the tunnels began in 2012 and took 36 months for completion.
The 24 km (15 mi) long series of bridges and tunnels was inaugurated on 15 September 2015 at a cost of $275 million and was hailed as a major accomplishment.
The route comprises five tunnels and several bridges. The longest tunnel is 3,360m, followed by 2,736m, 435m, 410m and 195m, while the Shishkat Bridge is 480 m (1,570 ft) long.
