The versatility and market support for an AR15 is nearly endless.
@akuankka3218763 жыл бұрын
Because it's a American gun for american market. There's certain amount of bias towards the AR because it's simply american design. That's why it has such a large market in USA. Go to different country and you don't see as nearly as good market support for AR than for example AKs or other platforms.
@DeimosPC3 жыл бұрын
@@akuankka321876 that’s because it’s expensive to import AR-15s and parts to other countries. AKs up until recent years were dirt cheap and always have been dirt cheap. It’s only the recent surge in price due to slav squat chads that has made them unaffordable to everyone

I build an AR-10 “other” (commie state compliant) with a SB-PDW brace and a 16” barrel topped of with a foregrip/bi-pod combo. Sounds odd but makes traveling with in a breeze and fully extended feels just right!
@akuankka3218763 жыл бұрын
@@DeimosPC It's not the russians which made the prices go up. The reason why AKs are nowadays more expensive is because: 1. USA placed sanctions on russian firearms which meant that AK supply from Russia to USA got basically cut off 2. Generally AKs have become more popular over the years in the USA, which means that demand increases but supply is still quite low. 3. USA's protectionism nowadays means that in order to sell for example AKs in the american market you need to have certain amount of american parts in it. This means that it's much harder to import AKs to united states than before. The good side of this is that american made AKs have become more common in USA and it supports the american industry more than importing stuff overseas.

Your first statement is irrefutable given the market support available. Let's revisit when piston driven rifles like the ak, mk18, HKs, get cheaper and more market support. The AR gas or rather ass impingement is mechanically inferior to piston driven. Keep your ego in check. Why doesn't SOCOM use flashy m4s? Cause they JAM. Don't eject or don't produce the gas requires to blast past moon dust. "WHaT abOuT the aK triGgeR groUp" You don't practice larping drills flicking safety on and off? Dust cover stays on until firing. The gas impingement, "cheap" AR is nothing more than a sporting rifle, NOT a battle rifle or doomsday gun for that matter. Besides the gas imp, it's a fantastic platform.
@therealmccoy99483 жыл бұрын
@@blakekrocks They addressed every one of your points in the video. It's kind of a hybrid system and the bolt is a piston in itself. MAC also has shown the hybrid gas system can last thousands of rounds with zero cleaning or lubrication, and have no failures. I love an ak or a fal, but an ar is a better platform than any other. And saying it's nothing more than a sporting rifle? Why has it been in service for nearly 60 years then? Don't be such a hater dude, it just makes you sound pathetic. Hi, Eric. Long-time viewer here, first time commenter. I used to watch your videos back in the early days, when you were still doing them at Moss Pawn & Gun with Barry (may he rest in peace). This was back during the Obama years, when I was in college at Alabama and the Obama-era attempted gun-grabs were in full swing. My love of guns took a backseat to other pursuits when I was in grad school and, later, getting started in the workforce, but I've recently gotten back into the hobby, and back into watching your channel again. While getting caught up, I was surprised to find this video. I remember a pair of episodes you and Barry did (the 16th and 17th editions of Gun Gripes, after looking it up) where y'all compared the AR-15 and the AK-47, side by side. At the end of the first episode, y'all acknowledged the strengths of the AR-15, but agreed that the AK-47 was the better platform, mainly because of superior reliability and durability. Those episodes have stuck with me over the years, mainly every time I've looked at purchasing either rifle or played with one at the gun range. Your opinion has clearly shifted. I'm curious. What changed? I've never owned an AK, so I'm not asking as an AK fan or anything. I'd just like to know how the AR's won you over in the last ten years or so. Love the show!

I love my AR’s. I’ve built a few, and would love to have the $ to build a couple more. My wife got mad at me when I got my first AR only because I was doing a custom “build” I didn’t “build” my first AR I started off with a stick AR and then upgraded the safety then the takedown pins and mag release, then on to the trigger group and spring’s, then the bolt catch and on and on until I had essentially a completely different firearm vs what I started with!! The only thing that is stock on that firearm now is the lower!!! EVERYTHING else has been changed, the upper, then buffer, spring and tube, barrel, hand guard is now free floated instead of the heat Shield it started with, then went to a quad rail now it’s an Mlock free float, different forward assist, BCG, gas block, muzzle brake, buttstock, pistol grip, even the mags are different. Now I’m sure half the AR guys out there will say I “douched” it up. But when I started making it red n black there wasn’t a kit to just buy and replace the parts. I had to track down every single part and piece and buy them and swap out the parts. Then I bought a raw 80% and ordered every part and piece I wanted for that and decided instead I’d coloring it I’d polish it out and do like an old hot rod and do black n “chrome” and that 1 is my favorite AR15 I’ve built and I say built because if you buy an old car and replace the motor and rear and interior and trans and all the parts and pieces and paint it you’ve “built” the car so it’s in my opinion the same and even more so with an 80% or less lower!!! The other’s I have are all just anodized parts for now. I want to get a large tank and start to hydro dip certain patterns but that’s the future for them, my wife is in the middle of her build now, btw I said she HATED when I started my first “build” now that’s “her’s” she claimed it about half way through she stared asking oh what else can you get in red oh can we do this I’m red oh I like that lol. Now her new 1 has Tiffany blue and purple color scheme, with a custom hand guard that has butterflies, dragon flies, skulls and flowers and other stuff in it… so it’s completely her firearm. Sorry for the long comment just love taking about guns!!! Thanks for taking time out of your day to read what I’ve written to anyone who does!! As always Thank fig guy’s for the content!!! And sorry again for the long winded book comment!!!

While I'll probably never see the side of a picnic table used as an armorers' tool to straighten an overheated and warped AR barrel ,( like you can with an AK) i have to admit that dispelling false rumors about the AR does serve a purpose. I'm planning on buying my first AR in 6.5 Grendel. All those years ago 223 and pistol calibers was the only game in town for an AR platform ( along with .308 but who could afford one). The idea of having to shim an upper that shot loose from a lower, along with lack of performance in moist/wet conditions, and the reliability rumors in general always dissuaded me from buying an AR. Things have changed over the last 40 years. Better calibers to choose from and an entire world of after market accessories place the AR in a different light in my decisionmaking process. Thanks for the high quality entertainment and information.

I could not agree more. The AR platform is clearly #1. There are many AR choices and price points, so virtually anyone can own one, but there's nothing like firing a top-of-the-line AR. Eric mentioned BCM and Daniel Defense. I am fortunate to own two DDM4 AR's - One is a V7 SLW 14.5" and the other is the V7P 10.3" pistol version. They are both weapons of incredible quality that inspire confidence and guarantee reliability. Easy to shoot accurately, easy to clean, easy to carry, and easy to enhance. They represent the AR rifle platform at the highest level. This video is a excellent discussion as to why the AR is King.

All around the ar is the best. So versatile and the ease of repair and customization make it a must have. Or I might grab my M1A NM w/ Leupold Mk4 scope or VEPR 16.5" in 54r if the situation dictates. There's even a bolt gun or 2 I might opt for or a cadre of rimfires that might be best, depending on the given scenario. They're all tools, and the situation dictates the tool to be used, not the other way around.

Should be noted that a big impact on the groups is a shooter’s familiarity with each platform. One guy might shoot bigger groups, then hand the same rifle to someone else who may shoot smaller groups with it. A lot of people in America, especially veterans are much more familiar with AR even if they don’t realize it. Even people who have shot an AK a lot, may be shooting it too much like an AR. Not saying that happened here. Shoot and train on both and decide yourself. I’ve seen some damn good groups from an AK. Wind and BC of cartridge is also a bigger factor than which gun being used in longer distance apples to oranges comparisons. Thank you for the massive amount of work this channel has done for us and thank you for your service.

Yes if you live in USA. However for example many east block countries, asian countires african countires ect have more AK parts than AR parts. You can't just compare AR to other platforms for that claim alone because USA is a totally different market than other nation's market which uses different platforms. Also AK accessories have somehow become more common even in USA's market today because AKs have become more popular over the years but AR is still more popular because of its history in USA.
