But, the Zee Zulu wasn't created in the OYW. It's design is based around the Geara Zulu. That Byarlant Custom was pinning-down two recently developed amphibious mobile suits.

See how the mega particle cannons from the Byarlant easily damaged the Zogok but had more trouble getting through the Zee Zulus armor? He highlighted that detail to empathize the age gap and gap in technological prowess between the antique Zeon Remnant suits and the much more updated Zulus. On his part it was just a statement to say he enjoyed a small detail. There's no need to pretentiously attempt to correct someone with already obvious surface level knowledge they were more than likely already aware of.

I would really like to smoke whatever Zeonic and Zimmad R&D were smoking because so many of their mobile suits were just downright unviable for combat until only a few months before the end of the war when they realized that the best thing to do is to standardize parts and improve on suits that actually do well in combat like the Zaku 2 and the Dom whilst copying the Feds suits with the Gelgoog.

Tactically speaking, the Byarlant was outmatched. Its only weapons are a pair of weak scatter cannons that have trouble penetrating anything past the One Year War, leaving its beam sabres to cut through in close combat. But the engines are so damn powerful, and pilot so effective, that it just soloed like half the attack by itself.

There were 2 experimental Byarlant's at Torrington Base during the attack. This one, the CQC version, was the only one they were able to activate. The pilot of this unit used to serve with the Titans Test Team. The Byarlant itself is an impressive machine. But combine that with the ace piloting skills of a Titans test pilot and you have a near unstoppable force.

I would refrain from referring to anything used pre gryps conflict high end lol most of Torrington's units were massively outdated with the exception of high performance limited production units like the Byarlant

Torrington base had literal swordfishes and anti MS squads, their suits are also exceptionaly varied(and generally bad) in quality, ranging from things like the Byarlant Custom to GM IIs. What didn't help either, was that the mobile suits had no time to fill propellents, forcing them to stay pinned to the ground while Zeon suits literally fly over them.

@@PSC4.1 okay I don't wanna be that guy but just because the Byarlant isn't a Gundam doesn't mean it's a grunt. It's a high performance prototype, that's still pretty protag-kun. Some actual examples of grunt MS performing well in Unicorn would be the entire Zeon Remnant cast, the Stark Jegan, and that Juaggu (even though it was a limited production model it's not high performance.)

ZeonicZaku1 that’s exactly what I mean, the suit itself mixed with the pilots skill, I considered the pilot to be a grunt because I have not seen the manga based off of this pilot and they never showed his face only the shot looking up from his chest where you could only see his neck and chin. I am not surprised that the EFF decided to adopt the suit as a non mass production suit as it was effective proven during the war where the Titans and the AEUG went head to head even though it wasn’t as upgraded as it was in MS Gundam Unicorn.

Yeah, pretty sure Riddhe piloted one of the completed units. I'm not completely sure you might have to do some wiki reading to double check. It's generally nice to see Robin (That's the name of the byarlant pilot if I remember) and the nameless Stark Jegan pilot because I generally prefer mass production models or cool looking limited production prototypes as opposed to Gundam types. Finally giving the pilots of these suits some good screen time instead 3 seconds and an explosion was a Grunt Suit Lover's wet dream.

tom lu not likely a normal pilot using a That thing is more akin to suicide than piloting it. It’s one of the first mobile suit to be capable of fully unassisted flight without transformation or minofkycraft. So when you face a Byalant the pilot will be at least an ace pilot or cyber Nu type.

​@@Kira22558He means the Zeta. The MK.II was already becoming outdated during the Gryps War. That's why they made the G-Defenser so it could upgrade to the Super Gundam to stand more of a chance. The EFF literally spent almost a decade trying to mass produce the Zeta, that's how good it was. Even then all they ended up settling for was a mass produced ZII with Jegan parts (ReZEL) and the ZII itself was just a roided Methuss with Zeta parts. The Mk.II's legacy is already seen in the GM III and Jegan. Even though they sorta gave up eventually, it's a testament to how well the Zeta performed with its several limited production off-shoots that were just trying to emulate its performance at a more sustainable price point. The Mass Production Zeta, ZII, ReZEL, Re-GZ and other various MS I won't list for redundancy's sake are all evidence of this.

People like to diss Jerid but he *almost* killed Kamille on the Moon in a Galbaldy Beta, he also got really close to preventing the first Neo Zeon war from happening when he made that mad dash towards Haman's ship and almost took out the bridge. He was swatting Gaza Cs like flies, which is pretty impressive seeing as the Gaza C knucklebuster was no joke and one could've easily one-shotted his Byarlant.

I like how the different mobile suits react differently to the same attacks, signifying their age or their design purpose. Kapools are weak against the mini-laser shots, the other one still had its armor heated but barely reacted, and the larger blue suits didn't even react at all.

Idk the Bylarant has the edge in atmosphere since its one of the few suits at this time that has self-sustained flight without a transformation. In space it certainly has the mobility but against all of those funnels and armour and I fields... It would be a tough fight for a suit that lacks missiles

In MSG UC-The Truth of E.F.F. Vol.1, There is one chapter dedicated to this Byalant Custom. And it is awesome. An upright Ex-Titan Pilot who save the day but his real acheivement got swept away by corrupt E.F.F.

Like most reasons they don't mass produce units, money. Simplifying an exceptional unit while keeping costs good is a slippery slope. Even the ReZEL, the final successful attempt at mass producing the Zeta Gundam, is essentially a ZII with more Methuss parts and Zeta Gundam battle data and it's still pricy as hell. There's also the fact that the Byarlant is an aerial combat specialist, although in Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam we see it can fare just fine in space too. I think the stigma of it being a Titans suit also has something to do with it. Even if you slap a visor over it and give it a more traditional EFF paint job, it still has that dark history behind it like the Barzam, Galbaldy Beta, and many other Gryps War era EFF suits had.

@@AdarisTempest I know this was three months ago but I should add this there's a second unit at the base with a different configuration it has normal hands and it could equip normal handheld weapons giving it much better versatility and it had a different backpack setup with Dual Cannons however when the attack at the base happened the pilot tried to start it up and apparently it's reactor failed to start up which is why you don't see it in the counter-attack fighting alongside its Brother unit

I loved all the little references in Unicorn and this is one of the best. The Byarlant is mobile and powerful but it's a frankenstein mobile suit that never really reached its potential. By this point it's very outdated and outmatched by anything newer. The pilot in this case just happens to be lucky and talented and is facing the suits the Byarlant was meant to kill. A more modern and well equipped attack force might have changed the outcome here.

@@judelagcao2090 More like anytime between U.C. 0083 and - 0087. I don't know where you'd get 0094 from, since the Titans dissolved in U.C. 0088. If he's an ex-titans pilot, it'd make no sense that he first saw action in 0094. You also have to take into account his status, he's an MS instructor. If he only had two years of experience, he'd be less likely to qualify for such a position.
