Very interesting episode. Nothing groundbreaking or changing for me but good to see some confirmation. On the heli rig i use a sleeve over the heli swivel to kick out the hooklenght cause i always expected otherwise theres a good chance it lands on top of the mainline. I do use 4" hook length about 6" above the feeder but only with hair rigs. Im a bit flabbergasted anyone would try a self setting rig wihout a hair to be honest. You could see the difference on the hydrid in that regard. Would have liked to see that on the footage cause it works very very well for me, even better than the hybrid. Footage also confirmed for me why i only use "flat laying" feeders (like the gripper) and tungsten stoppers on heli rigs to lay the mainline flat on the bottom. And thats why im also glad i bought "flying backleads" in bulk years ago when i heard some brand stopped selling then. Seeing the amount of liners on the footage its mind-blowing to me how no brands make those anymore. Get on it Guru, im starting to run low on those and carp backleads arent subtle enough. So please....😊

4" rig lenght on a 30g feeder sets itself almost instantly I find. By time the fish has sucked up the hook bait and feels the weight of the feeder they bolt and that's that and there hooked up, never used a hybrid elastic feeder just a standard banjo feeder is my go to now 👍🏻.... I find a 6" gives the fish to much slack line with in the rig to play about and spit it! When packing the ground bait in the banjo I like to have a mound protruding on top so when it starts to break down and fluff up it spils over the sides of the banjo and hides it from view as it falls over the sides, this is my go to tench mothod and it works great for me 👌🏻

Absolutely love this, learnt so much gripping viewing. I would have been really interested to see you experiment further and ditch the feeder and try using a lead with the hook bait nicked into a PVA mesh bag of feed. Harder to cast accurately but the hook bait would presumably be fishing straight away and not buried. My take from watching this is that the fish much preferred separation between hook bait and feeder which you often got when the swim was full of fish and swishing the hook bait around. It’d be good to see the hook bait presented better without fish interaction for those hard days when there aren’t lots of fish around and competing in the swim and you need to capitalise on every opportunity.

I keep pausing the upload making a comment then deleting the comment realising that I'm only 17 minutes in... This footage is amazing. With regards to well fished commercials we've always known that dead maggot trumps live maggots, unless targeting F1's. That's why I love this sport, keeps you on your toes!! The same peg one match can be full of F1's... The next match the same swim could be full of chunky Carp and Bream or nothing at all.. Let's face it, matching angling is a love it or hate it sport and I LOVE it!!!! If the upload was 30 minutes longer you'd end up with a method feeder.
@Tony-gu4sz7 ай бұрын
Why not try keeping the 6 inch hook-length and compacting a loop of the hook-length line in the hybrid?? With the hook bait still free say 1 inch?
@takleteck70087 ай бұрын
Great vid. I can understand the point of a stiff boom or fluoro to push the hook length away from the feeder when the hook lands on the bottom, but what's the point of using a twisted boom to attach the feeder on a heli rig? The line tension to the rod tip straightens the feeder connection whether it's single or double twisted. All you'll end up with is a soft hook length falling next to a highly visible twisted boom or am I missing something please?
