I keep going back to this video for years. No classical piece was ever performed with more love and passion. Classical music doesn't always have to be dead serious, solemn, boring, but it has to be passionate. These kids are a proof: BRAVO for them and maestro Dudamel!

I agree. No piece of symphonic music has brought me more joy & pleasure than have these wonderful children playing with such skill, love, & passion. Marquez deserves more recognition & Dudamel for his work with this orchestra & his passion for bringing Latin orchestral music to more ears.

The liveliest and most joyful interpretation of this masterpiece ... only if you teach, you can fully understand when your pupils thank you with their eyes, as these boys and girls do with Dudamel in this execution !!! And when in the final part, they stand on their feet, you would ardently be there, to play with them !!!

One day Venezuela will get a leader with as much skill and grace as Dudamel has as a conductor, and when they do, and start to rebuild that Great nation, I hope they look back on this masterpiece of youth and skill exuberance as the inspiration. This video has given me goosebumps for years, and I've never heard a recording of this piece that can hold a candle to this one.

I first heard Danzon No.2 performed at SF Symphony and liked it, but it wasn't until I experienced this performance that I realized: SIMON BOLIVAR YO AND DUDAMEL OWN THIS PIECE!!! Nobody else should ever attempt to play it, because it would not match this love and passion! Please come back to SF Bay Area and this time PLEASE include Danzon No.2 in your repertoire! Bravoooooo!

Just a note. As you can see the whole orchestra are very young (teenagers). This is because this is the Teresa Carreño's Young Symphony Orchestra. This performance was recorded during the TED Prize received for Maestro Abreu. The SBSOV is not a "young" orchestra anymore (the age range is around the 24 years old).

Result of the big project that the late president Chávez put in practice, that gave access to thousands of teens to study and play the classics and the Folklore. This is not a project that was put in place by Chavez. This project, called "El Sistema," or "The System," had been put in place by Jose Antonio Abreu in 1975. Perhaps you are thinking of another project, this one indeed created by Chavez, which today is known as "How to Fuck Up a Country in Less Than 15 Years"
