PS. I commented elsewhere on someone else's - but again here. A video id love to see - probiotics - their importance, how to choose a good one, the best way/when to take them, etc.

This series is excellent! I am so glad to finally find someone that talks about the science behind good and how the body works. It is so refreshing! My hubby was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis in May and I swear the combination of his job stress, poor eating habits, and taking antibiotics for an illness combined triggered it. There is so much research that still needs to be done to figure out what causes so many issues, but this type of education is so important! ❤

Becca, I love your videos! I recently learned about the gut brain connection after being diagnosed with post infectious IBS. I’ve had had food poisoning other times and had always recovered normally, but a few months ago I had a bout of food poisoning that left my gut and body in shambles. I went to doctor after doctor and had many tests and finally was told the food poisoning bacteria had damaged this nerve plexus. As a solution the doctor recommended antidepressants to restore the gut brain axis. I learned you have more serotonin receptors in your gut than your brain. However, I did not agree antidepressants were the best option for me due to side effects I’ve had in the past, they may work well for some people but wasn’t worth the long term side effects for me. So I started my own journey and research to heal my gut with many of these things you’ve mentioned - probiotics and diet. I wish I found your video sooner. Also you mention how your gut health effects other things in your body which is definitely true. When my symptoms were at their peak I had trouble sleeping, and many other issues that could not be explained which seemed to improve when my gut improved. And I’m not discounting the opinion of all the MDs I saw, I’ve been an RN for years, but knew the medication route wasn’t the best for me.

can you share any useful tips which helped you sleep and improve your gut? im having a whole load of issues as well, however mine is more linked to candida, autoimmune, and leaky gut syndrome.

Great, thoroughly researched and presented, useful information! Good positive presentation style as well. By the way, the word "bacteria" is plural, like virusES or microrganismS. Thanks for the talk!

I think the best thing anyone can do for their "gut health" is take out red meat from their diet. Red meat & animal products are known to cause inflammation in the body. I'm not a vegan, or even vegetarian, but I do my best to eat a mostly plant based diet. I was diagnosed in 2013 with Ulcerative Colitis which is an auto-immune disease where your white blood cells attack your lower GI tract.. colon and rectum. In January 2017 things went south really quickly & I ended up having to have my entire colon and rectum removed in emergency surgery because it was tearing open causing me to go septic. I can't help but wonder if I had taken out more animal products if it would have saved this. Of course, I live a healthy normal life without my colon & rectum (half my digestive system). Thank you for spreading the message of health and wellness. We often take it for granted until we no longer have it. I love your channel Becca!

Hi have you ever tried CBD oil? I also have colitis and whenever I have a flare up, I ingest cbd oil. It truly cures all my pain/inflammation, works wonders

I wish I could have!!! I live in Ohio and it's illegal here even for medical reasons. I have thought that maybe that could have helped. My GI Dr. told me that "diet has nothing to do with UC, so no I won't give you a referral for a nutritionist." so I doubt he would have been open to it even if it were legal.

I watched Rotten on Netflix and an allergist on there was talking about why there are so many more severe allergies today than there were even 30 years ago. She said it’s most likely due to a mix of factors: antibiotics (that humans take and in our food), vaccines, living in sterile environments, factory farming, etc. Our immune system didn’t have time to adapt to this modern society. I think the same can be applied to auto immune conditions. It could be from red meat for you, but it could be that so many environmental changes have happened that our immune systems didn’t have time to adapt and went haywire. That’s why allergies and autoimmune conditions have increased exponentially and why there are less autoimmune conditions in less developed countries.

Emily Parris May I ask how it works having your colon removed and eating a plant based diet? I know some fibrous foods and others is hard to eat when not having your entire colon intact.

Oh man, I had listeria from Blue Bell back when they had that listeria outbreak. I was sick for exactly 4 months. June 4th-October 4th. IT WAS AWFUL. I don’t know what I could have done to combat it. Or prevent it again.... This year I started drinking Kombucha which I LOVE. I feel like my digestion is somewhat better.

Around a couple of years ago my stomach began making loud and embarrassing noises (I know that this is normal digestive behavior) but mine are so frequent and obnoxious it gives me so much anxiety. Does anyone know why this is and what can be done to stop it? I went to my gastro doctor and cant find anything wrong. I took probiotics for a while but haven't seemed to help
@CrystalLynn8157 жыл бұрын
Just an FYI, if you have a histamine allergy, fermented foods have a high amount of histamine, so you’ll probably be better off with just the probiotic.

It would be interesting to have a video about probiotics and what we should look for when choosing one. Good thought amos99!
@CrystalLynn8157 жыл бұрын
Amos 99 the one I take has 25 billion bacteria and 10 different strains. Some of the lower quality ones might have a lower amount of bacteria and only 1-3 strains. Also look for the least amount of additives and fillers in the ingredients.

I know what I'm about to ask is not related to the content of this video but I was wondering if you could give me advice regarding taking an intro to chem class or a general chemistry I class. I have not taken chemistry prior to entering college but I am relatively good at math.
@rocketsoccer17 жыл бұрын
i would take an intro class before a chemistry I class if you haven't taken chemistry before. at my college they required an intro chemistry course if you hadn't taken high school chemistry, and I'm glad they did. the math presented in intro chemistry and chemistry I isn't very hard (just basic algebra), but you will be much better off with the concepts in chemistry I if you have taken an intro to chemistry course.
