It's kind of funny how even though I'm primarily a trumpet player, I've always been able to learn a lot from guitar players about phrasing, attacks, note spacing- you name it- and apply it to the trumpet. Some musicians like Guthrie are just so full of musicality that it makes it easy for the rest of us to take away something from it.

From my view there are very few musicians that embody their instruments. They are capable of saying whatever they want, musically. No technique or lack of musical knowledge holds them back. I’m sure there are many more but guys like Bela Fleck, Chris Thile and Mark O’Conner are some that have moved and inspired me over the years. Now I add Guthrie to that list. I think I could hum this song from beginning to end without the audio, so I don't think it'd be that hard for him. BTW, he changes up some parts when he plays live, so maybe he just memorizes the "idea" of the song more than note for note.
