11:42 i looked this up because coincidentally i was also doing a historical belgium game and apparently the german ai never does the barbarossa focus if it borders any country it is at war with, so if you hold as belgium france yugoslavia austria poland netherlands denmark or luxembourg they never go in on the soviets, but the other axis nations can will still declare if they get a wargoal fron their tree (in my game romania declared on the soviets from their fascist tree and germany collapsed because they had nothing ready for the east lol)

He broke the alliance we had with France in 1936 which was a massive contributing factor to german victory in 1940. Ignored multiple invasion warnings too. Refused to let the French troops enter belgium which allowed for their encirclement at Dunkirk. Played friends with the Germans during the occupation. His attempt to return to the throne after the war almost broke our country apart. Trash king.

The supply situation reminds me of older Hearts of Iron games. AI behaved *exactly* the same in those as well and it was just as annoying. I vividly remember one example from Modern Day mod. Operation Desert Storm. It begins and instantly grinds to halt, reason? Literally everyone in NATO instantly piled up as much as they could of their airforce into Kuwait, completely draining supply so badly that NOBODY could move. You improved supplies? AI´s piled up more planes. Desert Storm was basically impossible to pull due to this.

if you ignore the tile bordering ger and lux, you can easily hold in the base game. in fact you hold so well you have to prevent germans+italians punching through lyon. basic garris on fallback line from switzerland along the river, through lyon and a few tiles south down the river will hold them. add Aa tanks to them over time. it takes 48 AA tank space marines divs (yeah, i know) on a fallback line on all of your border (minus the one i mentioned) and at least lv7 land forts and some naval forts on antwerpen. Germany is somehow able to punch through a river crossing & lvl land forts without the naval forts...with poor supply. when Germany loses 3m against to your 8k, they eventually go for ussr and you walk in to Berlin and Milan with the Allies. Manpower is the main problem. Go limited conscription asap. No local autonomy in your colonies. Medic support. Have PP ready to go all adults serve when you go to war. Your 48 divs will be undermanned at the start of war but you'll have most equipment. Also, set all civvies be ready for repair. Chill General gave me the idea the other day and it took me a few tries. That land tile and no-navals on antwerpen got me for a while.

Belgium fought really good considering at what a disadvantage they were in WW2, also, it's not unimportant to note that Belgium got f-ed hard in WW1. We REALLY didn't want to have another year long conflict destroying the country. Belgium was essentially equipped to fight a second great war, with similar strategies. That didn't work.

I will say it might be worth checking to see if Barbarossa has the requirement that France and the lowlands be capitulated before it can be taken, which might explain why the AI didn't barbarossa until after you capitulated, because it wasn't possible.
