Although my range has increased singing beautiful songs like Anne Murray and getting great applause, this suits here suits me very well because I sing a lot of Tanya Tucker songs and classic rock. I have been told that my voice is what they call contralto. Singing contemporary Christian songs at church are very challenging, and I love those songs. I get to sing every Sunday for the service! I must be doing something right or they wouldn't want me back. Your lessons are great!

This is my first daily warm-up. My go-to. I can breeze through it in ten minutes. And with no talking, it goes very quickly. It helps my ‘find’ my voice. I love the soulful third exercise. Thanks for steam lining it. I have recommended your site to other singers. We are fortunate to have this! 🎶😊

This is so great! Been doing this warmup consistently for a few weeks now and notice a huge difference! Also discovered a nice trick of wrapping the end of my singing straw with a thin napkin, making sure to not block the hole. This makes it so spit isn't leaking out non stop, and the napkin also moves/makes a sound when blowing through the straw so I can better monitor when I'm pushing more or less air through.

Cannot thank you enough for making all of these videos! Do you have any advice for my jaw clenching up on the higher parts? Thanks again!
@SingingStraw3 жыл бұрын
Jaw tension is the worst! A little gentle stretch and massage can be helpful, plus giving yourself alternate movements to keep from holding tension, i.e. shaking your head "no" back and forth while singing. Good luck!

Great warmup video for my voice! That soulful third was a new one for me - it took a bit of adjusting but got there in the end. Added this to my vocal warmups playlist to use more regularly 😁

Is there an alternative for that last one? I don’t think I can do that one comfortably yet.

Yes, you can always sub it for another exercise - try any from my other videos!

What is a good warm up right before a singing audition
@SingingStraw2 жыл бұрын
There are so many good ones! Choose a warm-up that best suits whatever song you will be singing! And remember to focus on stretching your voice from the lowest point to the highest it can go. Hope that helps :)

i feel like mostly the second excercise is too high for me, do you have any tips on that. And I'm using 3 straws right know and how long do you think it will take until I can use 2 straws

What should I do if I feel two straw is easy for me, I have use two straw for quite a while now, should I reduce to only one straw and what happen after that? Thanks Whitney
@SingingStraw3 жыл бұрын
Hi! Yes, I would recommend dropping down to 1 straw to increase resistance! Do you have the S/S original or Pro?

Do you offer online private voice? Or do you know a voice teacher in Arizona that specializes in singing straw?
@SingingStraw3 жыл бұрын
Whitney does teach privately but at the moment her schedule is totally full. She has a studio with 20 amazing teachers that she's personally trained who love singing as much as her, and they offer a free intro lesson (online via zoom). Please send an inquiry at songbirdsf.com/ and they'll set you up! Happy Singing!

In that first exercise I started at a C3 and took you up to a C5 - likely stayed around there for the rest as well!

Why it is easier to do these exercises on thinner straw than a thicker on?
@SingingStraw4 жыл бұрын
It's actually harder to sing with the thinner diameter straws, because they create more backpressure and resistance in the vocal tract - but ultimately that's what is so beneficial, so while the thinner straw can feel more challenging, it's giving you more of a benefit!
@matrix-_-3604 жыл бұрын
@@SingingStraw i think i was using the thicker straw without closing it half at the end of it ,that is why I thought it is harder

Is it normal for my cheeks to want to puff out? Should I try to avoid that?

It's totally okay for cheeks to puff out! It does not make a difference and is just a personal preference :)
