I walked home 10 blocks from this production in tears. Gypsy is one of my all-time favorites (I have played Herbie twice), but I was so stirred by "Patti's" Turn - it left me so emotionally vulnerable that I couldn't shake it. That was a performance for the ages.

What a treat. I was so disappointed that I didn't get to New York to see Patti in Gypsy, but this is the second best thing and I loved it! Thank you for risking your life to film and post! Just wondering, did anyone else think some of the tempos were rushed? Just my opinion

This was awesome. I saw her in this about 11 months later, at the St. James and all of them were fantastic. I'd l love to have a copy of the video as welll. I think I might be able to sort it out on YT, but getting it to my email would be super too. I drove down from Maine and went with a friend and former colleague. So glad to have seen it with a friend. We took the train in from NJ, had lunch, and saw the 2:00 matinee. What she said at the Tony awards was spot on, from production, direction, acting to all the theater atists being the finest assembly of professionals, was spot on. Glad she was able to work things out with AL, I'd rd read his first memooir,s which is a great read (Original Story by AL). Just picked up his second memoir. He worked witth another favvorite actor on several productions - Shiirley Booth - who won two Tonies for the productions. Very different personality and acting style than Lupone, but was one of the most apppreciated and awarded actors of the mid- 20th C. Kind of amazing that more than 50 yrss later, he still had the right stuff and the vision to direct this kind and caliber of performance. Anyway, thanks for posting it. Made my day!

Yeah I was perturbed by how uproarious the audience was. Like every moment it was like laughter and applause as if she'd already finished the performance. Very concert-like in its air.

I saw this performance. I couldnt fully enjoy it because SO MANY of the audience members would anticipate laughs and generally disrupt the natural flow of the show, like they were at a Patti concert, not a show. It's not their fault or hers, the shoe was so popular by this time and so many people waited for her to do the role..but i was very perturbed.

To me Angela Lansbury is the best Rose but Patti was pretty good but Angela had this tragic flair to her that made her very sympathetic and heartbreaking and when the final moment of roses turn comes it felt like she was actually having a mental breakdown and going insane with this maniacal glee added that made it so heartbreaking which is why she’s the first rose to win a tony award and add the psychological aspect to rose as well as the bitterness

Why did gypsy laugh at the end what does it mean is she mocking her mothers “dream” or what?

I know I’m wondering that. In the 2008 version, Gypsy laughs at her mother and I believe she walks away as Rose is left staring at her name in lights as the lights slowly faint and flicker and then disappear. In this version it shorts of appears to be a kind laugh but I can’t tell.

This was not filmed on a cell phone - the first iphone only came out 6 months before this video was taken..! This was filmed using a video camera. You'll be hard pressed finding a bootleg filmed on a cell phone - video cameras are a bootleggers tool of choice.
