Thanks to your fantastic videos, i'm finding i'm beginning to develop a deeper understanding of old norse to a point where i can read old norse poetry and automatically translate some of the words back into english in my head. Heaps of love from Australia 💖

I once saw a moose run at full speed and jump across a mountain road. I was a bit like seeing a semi trailer driving at Formula 1 speeds and jumping like a tiny rally car. Awesome sight!

Professor Crawford! Could the description of someone with "dry skin" in stanza 30 be a metaphor for someone who is not well-traveled? As in, someone who has not been made wet by crossing water? Then that second half would mean something like, "It's easy for a man to seem wise if he hides within the comfort of his own culture".

skin gets pretty dry when out in the sun and salt. One has dry skin on the water when the sails are full and the sun is shining

Do we know what numerical system the ancient Scandinavian people used? What is Roman, like the English, or something else?

I think I’m missing something. In this video, the runic inscription for every instance of the word “er” is “ᛁᛋ” (es). Shouldn’t it be “ᛁᚱ”, or maybe “ᛁᛦ”?

there is a later explanation of this holding out for the more archaic form of "to be" The "ᛦ" rune for r is only used where it displaced zed as at the end of the word in earlier proto- forms

Couldn't stanza 26. "... ef hann á sér í vá veru." also mean "... if he finds himself in woe/in a tight spot"? I find it more plausible that it's an accusative of "vera" (to be) rather than "verja" (to guard/cover).
