When I first got my machine, my Doc set me at 8-12. I felt like I was breathing thru a straw, and I looked at the data and saw I went to 12 within minutes of falling asleep. I changed it to 12-20, and things have been great. At my 30 day check up, my Doc looked at my data, and made a comment about how good he did setting up my machine. I didn’t say a word.

LOL, yes, mine set me up at 4-20 which worked ok until I found that the 4 should really be higher. Thanks to a YT clip, I discovered how to change settings. I doubled to 8, and only last eve I lowered the 20 to 15. This way I hope to live with the fact that only after 2+ years my heater system nixed itself and that a replacement heater still doesn't work. Also the projected 7+ years of use before $800-$900 total replacement does not hold true in my mind, but if I can reduce my dry mouth and dried out eyes with lower pressures, so be it.

Thank you for this. I started using my bipap machine again after lung surgery. I can inhale much better afterward it. I had trouble inhaling before surgery. This time around, my ears were hurting and my tummy was bloating. My doctor wasn’t listening to my complaints of the pressures. I lowered the pressure a bit and it felt was much better. At my last appointment, doc said I had done such a great job using it every night. I just sat there quiet.

Jason, thank you for this channel and this video was such a home run for answering some of the questions I've been having lately. I've been using OSCAR now to track my data and trying to get to the bottom of the past few weeks all of a sudden in APAP just not working well for me any more. My O2 drops so often in the night now that I'm constantly getting warnings on my lookee oximeter ring. I had recalled in one of your previous videos having you say you didn't care for the EPR setting because of messing up the CO2. I'm definitely trying the CPAP mode with no EPR tonight and watching the OSCAR data in the morning to see how I respond. I had the sleep study last night but I have to wait TWO WEEKS before the doctor has time for my what to do next appointment!! Meanwhile, my days are just complete exhaustion. I just wanted to THANK YOU for this super timely video. It was exactly what I needed right now. Definitely supporting you in one way or another for your hard work in educating us! I'll be signing up for the OSCAR review for example if I still remain stumped on what to do next. More soon! thanks again!

Until I saw this video, there was no way for me to change my settings. You’ve been very helpful. I have turned it down and set it on airplane mode so they cannot monitor anything anymore. I am beyond my 90 days and I’m complied completely in order for the insurance to pay for my machine. Heads up on humidity. I had an ear problem as a teenager. At 50 years old I turned up my humidity thinking it would help with dry mouth. I ended up with too much moisture in the ear canal and had a serious issue with vertigo while driving turning my world upside down. Thank goodness my wife was with me and able to grab the steering wheel. SO, don't go nuts on humidity levels... Also, I am overweight and by the time I change into my night cloths and remove my socks I am out of breath as a COPD patient. I'm one of those people who needs a ramp. With a pressure of 6, I will fall asleep in 15 minutes. If I start it at near 12, I just won't fall asleep. I end up reading to fall asleep. So my ramp is set for 20 minutes and by the time I've fallen asleep, it has slowly ramped up to my best setting (which is around 12). 6 years on, still need the ramp. Annoying but thankful for the setting!

The only time EPR should be used is if you have an underlying neuromuscular condition that effects respiratory function such as muscular dystrophy or spinal muscular atrophy. Because it actually stops the person from exerting too much energy when breathing. Also people with these types of conditions are at risk of a build up of co2 in their blood which means that they enter into an acidotic state.

I just paid $2,200 for my airsense 10 in july '23. The air mini which I also bought was $1,300. I like the mini the best and can change all the settings on the phone. The data is nowhere near enough but I've set the therapy based on the pressures used each night and I set the minimum and maximum pressure based on those. It's finally getting comfortable and the events are around 1 or 2. At least I'm up from 60's sats to mid 80's so there's still some tweaking to do.

I don’t really wanna rebuild my base but Matt said I had to. Maybe if I hook up a CPAP it’ll give it enough boost to save me the work. I think this has a legitimate chance of being successful! Quick question. I switched from the F&P Vitera full mask to the ResMed AirFit N20 nasal mask. When changing the settings, the ResMed AirFit N20 info. said to set it on “pillows” instead of “nasal”. Any particular reason why? It’s a nasal mask, not the nasal pillows that go in your nostrils, so that didn’t make sense to me, but I put it on “pillows” like it said. Also, where can I find & get “Oscar”? The AirSense 10 manual says it includes an SD card, but it doesn’t come with one, do that didn’t make much sense either.

You should explain how the algorithm of the autoset works, cous it doesnt work for me y feel better with CPAP mode, but i dont understand why.

The ResMed AirSense 10 APAP looks like a very good candidate. Great explanation of the clinical settings. I like that it works with Oscar. How does the ResMed AirSense 10 APAP heated humidification compare with the Philips Respironics REMstar Auto System One? I use a non-heated hose with a heated humidification setting of 1. This heated humidification setting has worked very well with me.

My first experience with the machine was at full pressure and could hardly stand it. Almost turned me off to CPAP therapy. Covid came and I was off therapy about a year and a half and then my recalled unit was shipped back to Phillips and. Ow lost in their warehouse. Now I do agree that after you adjust to script pressure turn off ramp. But I did find and some of my acquaintances found using ramp helped during adjustment period.. About a week and then I shut it off ..

Feels like I cannot exhale, which I am guessing is related to lasting lung issues from covid. I know you stated the EPR is best to be left off, which is what my doctor has it set at, but I was thinking about turning it on and setting it at 1 and see. Nothing about EPR yet my machine is set to EPR ON Full time, level 3. Wondering why it’s set this way and maybe this is why I am not tolerating CPAP after 4 years of compliance. Also my machine was set to max of 9, so I changed it to 16 per sleep study.

What is the life expectancy in hours before you recomend replacing this machine? I do change air filter regularly but being a sealed unit I cant really clean blower fan. My machine has just over 15,000 hours now which is Truly Amazing to me. It still runs quite and all functions work good. Love your Channel sir and Thank You!

I have a Philips Respironics and it has 20,440 hours on it and still runs perfectly. I bought a Dreamstation 6 months ago as I feared they would become scarce because of the pandemic and the rarity of breathing support machines. Not related, but the fan motor in my home heating system lasted 34 years, running constantly, something like 14 billion revolutions. A fan motor, well balanced and with quality bearings, can go on for a long time. Regular filter maintenance helps the insides not getting gunked up.

I have an AirCurve which is similar to the Airsense. When your machine is dying it will actually give you the message “Motor life exceeded. Call your provider”. I got that message, they came and looked at it and said it’s working fine. 🤷‍♀️

Hello, I am curious. @7:28 You say that the Dreamwear nasal mask should be on the nasal setting, but Resmed actually recommends the pillow setting for its version of this mask (n30i). I wonder if it is the same for the Dreamwear? or should I leave it on the nasal setting?

I'm going by what a Respironics rep told me. It could be complete B.S.. It's not something that I'm able to "look into", so I haven't. I'd take that comment you're referring to with a grain of salt. That said, when I use the Dreamwear under the nose cushion, I do so with it on the nasal setting and have had no problems to speak of. I might try a nasal pillow setting and see if it has an effect on the OSCAR reported leak rate. Other than that I can't see what else it would effect.

Lately I wonder how much an advantage an ASV Resmed has over an Autoset Resmed, given the former costs almost 8 times as much! Does the ASV do more thorough analysis of sleep states and breathing monitoring?

I've had my machine for over a year and I put on mask; sleep; take off mask and it shuts off. For the last month it does not always shut off. So, I unplug and later re-plug & it comes on and seconds later it shuts off. (hopefully) Did not know it had a shut off button. But I hate having to hit shut off button. Can this be fixed? Learned a lot from your video. Thank you.

I have the same problem, sometimes (when I take it off) it’ll shut off and sometimes it won’t. But it always starts up fine when I put it on and start breathing

Good video. Have you ever had a hose stuck to a Resmed10 and could not remove it? I've tried everything to remove it but no luck. Do you have a suggestion?

My brother never washed his hose so after 2 years, it was pretty much hardened to the machine. Had to use a wide screwdriver to bend the hose edge back to break the seal to get it off. He has used heated hoses ever since - doesn't have the same problem.

Do you have a video on how to setup the modem so a sleep physician has remote access to the data on the ResMed Airsense/Aircurve 10 Auto BiPAP machine?

It may already be set up like that. My DME co. did that when they programmed mine. Also, you can go into the MyAir app , look under “profile” on bottom right, click “settings”, then click on “share with provider”. It allows data to be viewed remotely by your provider. Like I said, though, they may have it already done another way. I didn’t have that checked on mine, yet both my pulmonologist & the DME co. already had access to that.

Hello, I'd like to know if one of your devices would respond to that specific issue : a breathing from the patient that doesnt stop brutally like in an apnea, but which has a minute ventilation continuously low in the few minutes after falling asleep (long insp. and exp. time, no obstruction), which ends up waking him up and not fully falling asleep. The nights when this event doesnt happen, the minute ventilation has a higher average and the sleep is ok. Do you know any algorithm or setting that could allow to preset a fixed target level for minute ventilation ? Thanks a lot, wishing you a good day

I’ve had a ResMed AirSense 10 for about 4 years now. It recently stopped transmitting data due to discontinued 3G coverage in my area. So, I no longer get data in the MyAir App on my smartphone. I downloaded Oscar and read the data from my SD Card into it. It only shows Summary Data and says “Daily Data is Not Available”. Is there a setting on the AirSense 10 that allows storing Daily Data on the SD Card that is able to be read into Oscar?

Still trying to figure this one out.... I feel exasperated/so tired trying to exhale even on 3 EPR with this. Even the lower pressure with nasal pillows I can’t seem to breathe well. I wake up with a racing heart after an hour or two and rip it off in my sleep.

My machine is set to "AUTO' for Ramp Time...what is actually happening? (It has been that way for 3 years).
@JaimeDornanLady
@JaimeDornanLady 3 жыл бұрын
Look at the video at -9.48, -9.50. The ramp time is a feature that makes the CPAP start at a lower pressure and gradually build up to what you need when you finally fall asleep. That helps you have a more gradual increase, instead of the immediate shock of a high pressure blowing at you. Some pple. tolerate it better by starting at a lower pressure as they’re falling asleep.
@IHeartQuilting2
@IHeartQuilting2 3 жыл бұрын
According to Resmed, the machine can identify when you are likely falling asleep. It adjusts the ramp for that so that you are ramped up shortly after you've fallen asleep. Look at your Oscar data with and without and you can see that difference.
