Another great video. You did a fantastic job cleaning up this wreck of a machine. I’m so impressed since I thought it was a lost cause. Just recently bought a backup with 39 hours but paid much more than you. I’m not adventurous taking apart machines. LOL Also saw in your notes that your wife decided to use it rather than the DS2. The people that bought my house from were smokers. At the time I didn't really think too much about it. I figured that a good airing out and some cleaning would take care of it. Was I wrong! It took close to a year to finally get rid of the stench. I had to seal all the ceilings and walls before I painted them. All the carpeting had to be replaced. I had to replace the furnace and clean the ducts. I had to replace the kitchen exhaust fan There was even brownish yellow slime in the wall behind the thermostat. Many people don't realize how hard it actually is to get rid of cigarette smoke.

I gave mine old broken CPAP 10 to the repair folks at Gainesville, FL. Then, my doctor ordered me a brand new one that I didn’t have to clean or run a risk of getting someone’s diseases. Lung diseases and viruses such as Covid-19, tuberculosis, and others can be transmitted very easily especially in your lungs. Even with this throughout super cleansing process you can be sure that you got the microscopic virus just overlooked. But I was impressed by your work. Autoclaving each part and the whole machine could be another way but risk damaging the plastic parts unfortunately. Again, great job! If this had not been a machine from someone else and just your old one this would work only for you.

For the DME this is what they call a smoker unit and the only use for it would've been to dispense to another smoker or make it 100% write off. It's incredibly hard to get the tar smell out even with a full disassembly and cleaning. Keep in mind that the hours can be reset by the DME to record compliance but what you have there is a potential working spare in an emergency.

I have been using a Airsense 10 for just under 2 years. I change the air filter monthly and clean the tubing about twice a month, but was not aware of possibly needing to clean the pump motor. Was all that gunk inside caused by not having a proper intake filter and also it being used by a smoker ??
@AdventureswithCPAP Жыл бұрын
Don't go opening your CPAP if you don't absolutely need to! You're right in the end: what caused all this was a failure to regularly change the intake filter. It was a filthy, gunky mess. I'm guessing it hadn't been changed in probably five years, and the weight of the particulate matter trapped in it weighed it down to the point where it wouldn't make a proper seal. That's the only way any air was getting through it at all -- it was going around it!

What’s the 478 method ?
@robertbecraft53274 ай бұрын
@@EvertG8086 The 478 method is a breathing technique that someone invented to help people that have difficulty falling asleep easily like a lot of people complain of. I worked nights for 25 years and once I retired, I had great difficulty trying to teach myself how to fall asleep like normal people do and never worked nights. The “478” is a simple system that someone invented. It goes like this: When you lay attempting to fall asleep, inhale slowly and count to four. At the end of the count 4, I simply hold my breath and count slowly till 1234567. After I reach the number 7, I slowly exhale and count to 1-8. Once you’ve counted to 8, simply repeat the previous 478 maybe more 10 times. That’s what I do. Simply relax and most people ease into a nice sleep. Look it up on the Internet and maybe you’ll discover something additional to help. I almost forgot to mention. Before I begin the 478 procedure, I take a flavored dissolvable Melatonin 12 mg tablet. Life is good. Hope I made sense. Good luck.

Ok, after watching this video, I took the chance and disassembled my Aircure10 Dpap yesterday Feb 21,2022. Same motor set up more or less. I have nearly 16k hours on mine. I do smoke but never in the bedroom where my Dpap is. (yes, mine is Dual pressure.) I changed the filter every 2 weeks and cleaned the masks/tank/tube every friday. Yet my motor looked just as bad, in fact worse than this one. I used 1 bottle, 16 oz of 91 percent Isopropyl alcohol. It came out jet black. I also used my air compressor, with a needle nozzle (about the size and length of a good toothpick, set at 20 psi to blow out particles loosened by the alcohol. After re-assembly I let it run for 2 hours. Before I cleaned it, it was NOT keeping accurate track of my usage hours, nor was it producing the proper higher pressure required. I would use it all night for 7 hours and it recorded 30 minutes of use. It had been this way for 2 months. Last night was the first usage since i cleaned it. Had to use the humidifier, but got 7 hours of proper use and yes, it did record that usage properly on the myair resmed website. Resmed needs to redesign this so the motor unit can be replaced, or removed easier to be sent it for a cleaning.

I used it on and off for about two years.I went from a full face mask to a nose mask and then a pillow....then back to full! I couldn't deal with it and put it away for about 3 years. Only took it out when sleeping over relatives houses. My wife said I snore like crazy.......now we sleep apart. She has it also but won't get it checked out! Tried again for a week.....no good! Put it away for about 7-8 years. Have been taping my mouth....I wake up many times and always with a dry mouth! Want to try again, maybe with a different mask setup. I am closing in on 70 yrs old. My question is (finally), can I still use this machine? Even though it is over 10 years old, it has low mileage/usage. I have cleaned it thoroughly, and would buy new hose (heated) and new mask. It has been in it's case in air conditioning it's whole life. When using, always kept it clean, and always used distilled water. Am told nothing to clean inside of machine, I am the only user and was never subjected to anything outside and always in a/c. Look forward to your reply!

You mean removing the foam in the AirSense 10? I honestly just don't know. I would have to do some extensive testing to see if the foam has any effect on the flow-rate sensors. All I can say is this: looking at the internal structure of both machines, I think the foam is less necessary in the AirSense 10 than it is in the DreamStation. The AirSense 10 also seems to do a better job of responding to flow limitations. So if I were gonna de-foam a machine and attempt to make it work for me, the ResMed would be the one I would trust more to still function effectively.

From what I have read, the foam is really only for sound abatement. You should be able to remove it from the CPAPs that I know about and the only difference if any would be the noise level.

@@af1966 I just replaced the motor in mine. The foam was bad so I left it out. We couldn't hear the difference. Couldn't find a place to buy new foam? Anyone have any ideas on buy new foam.

Next time, double bag the motor in a sealled food bag with the alcohol and a couple of cotton buds inside. Once sealed you can then use the cotton buds while it is flooded with alcohol without having to waste loads flushing it repeatedly.

They should make it easier to get to that foam piece inside. I would like to take mine apart but don't dare to.

This was used by a smoker that's what everything looks like in a car, or home of a heavy smoker. Wonder what the inside of their lungs looks like. I always felt that the filter on these just a cloth, or cheap 1mm thick fiber mesh is not good enough. I wanted to make an adaptor to use two 3M cartridge filters from a paint mask.

I bought HEPA filters for mine on Amazon. The factory foam filters don't look all that effective to me.

Can You use a inline Filter with Dreamstations? I still have mine planing on getting the airsense 11 when I can get money saved up. Sad that the prices are insane right now :( Thanks nice Video great work boss!!!!

Philips announced last week that the recommendation for use of in-line bacterial filters only applies to ventilators, not PAP therapy devices. It’s such a cluster-you-know-what. www.dropbox.com/s/10m7zat4u2ki8ww/philips-global-bacteria-filter-document.pdf?dl=0

Here's my baffling question.. Why is my side filter not so dirty but my inline filter gets disgusting? I use a better quality side filter that's similar to the inline filter make up. Does the airflow only come in through the side door? Resmed just like the model in this video.
@AdventureswithCPAP2 жыл бұрын
I think it boils down to the fact that the inline filter is filtering very saturated air. That moisture makes it sticky. That's just my hypothesis.

what if you never used water even once in the machine, would this do anything to it?
@johncochran8497 Жыл бұрын
Take a look at the air path. 1. Through the replaceable filter on left side. 2. Through motor housing and impeller. 3. Into the humidifier tank. 4. Out of the humidifier tank and to the exhaust. 5. From the exhaust to the tubing. 6. From the tubing into the mask. The water never encounters the motor at all.

For the price of these things, they find myself really underwhelmed by what’s inside. Cheap little motor filtration is definitely under par for that system.

Hi, i don’t know if you still check for notifications but i might as well ask, i have found out that my resmed stops excerting good pressure to fill my airway up, and i cant breath out at the same time because is too hard to exhale, for some reason that happens at the 2 hour mark every night, do you know how i can solve this issue?
@AdventureswithCPAP10 ай бұрын
Hey! Question for you: do you wear a pulse-oximeter or a smart watch when you sleep? The reason I ask is, I'm working on a video now about the sensation that you can't catch your breath when you first put on a CPAP, and I've found that it's related to elevated heart-rate, at least for me and my wife at is. I'm wondering if there might be something that's causing your heart-rate to spike around that time?
@leor22525 ай бұрын
@@AdventureswithCPAP sorry apparently i didnt have the notifications from replys on, now ill start to wear the pulse oxymeter, will get back to you in a later time, but about that you were asking happens to me, so i stopped using the cpap because of it, i was going through a comment section because i really need this to work, and saw an interesting comment about that from i believe is a technician, i will try to find it and will copy paste it here, but what i took from it is that we need to train breathing(like with the spirometry devices they give at the hospitals), because we breath shallow, the cpap can handle that fine, but as we are breathing shallow, it will be a moment when we try to compensate the lack of oxygen with some heavy breaths, that is when the cpap cant handle it. Hope this helps and hope you are all well, i noticed you have not post in a while
