When you think about it, all the coins Zagreus takes all belong to Hades since he kills monsters and robs chests to get them. Funnily enough, it's a good capitalism move from Charon to earn his keep from using his boss's son.

it was common practice in many cultures to give the deceased a coin or two to pay the guide to the underworld. In Greece, Charon is the boatman of the dead, and carries the newly deceased across the River Styx/Acheron. (Sources vary on the actual river) However, you needed to pay Charon, and so coins would be placed with the corpse, sometimes under the tongue.

@@Dewkeeper or maybe, Charon made a deal with him, and had him come to the house as Zagreus' punching bag. And after Skelly's work is done, Charon will take Skelly's coin and leave him at the Fields of Asphodel like any other shade. So, in short, Charon didn't take the coin because he thought Skelly's work wasn't over yet. This is my theory.

Something I find funny is that, in-game, Charon is stronger than Hades himself.

Iirc Nyx says in one of her lines that Charon's been in the Underworld since basically an eternity before Hades received it from the Fates, so he might be WAY older than him, and thus more powerful. Heck, Charon's literally older than Death, so he wasn't always the ferryman of the dead.

Charon is a son of Nyx, making him a second generation Primordial God. He is certainly stronger than Hades in Greek Mythology as well. Heck, he's probably stronger than Thanatos as well.

First time I fought Charon took me entirely by surprise, he is much more powerful than Hades at least in the game.
