You gotta give Satch respect for besides his virtuosity, stepping in to play these tunes and being humble enough to do it. Maybe Alex will change his mind about playing again but his bond with Ed is still so strong. I don’t think I could do what Satch is doing because there will always be the naysayers so once again much respect for him. Joe and Ed were definitely my top Influences back in the day but as a guitarist trying to learn Ed’s stuff when I was a teenager I couldn’t do it because I didn’t realize he was a half step down or even somewhere in between. Joe is light years beyond anyone Sam has played these songs with besides Eddie. I like and respect him. He's good people. God bless. 🙏 But, it's hard to listen to a song like this without that pocket groove that Ed and Al had. You don't realize how integral it is on even a relatively easy song like Poundcake until it's not there. Then it just jumps right out at you. That DNA, man. It's IN the songs. It's inextricable.
@jmhutner3 ай бұрын
Relatively easy? A renowned virtuoso like Satriani can’t even play it right. Lol
@e.l.norton3 ай бұрын
@@jmhutner THAT'S the point. There's easy, and there's Van Halen easy. NOBODY plays Van Halen properly. Wolf did it. He's got the genes and years of grooving with Ed and Al. It's in him. But, nobody else does it right. They get close sometimes. But, you can always hear the "not right" in it. Joe has spent his career being Joe and developing HIS thing. It's virtually impossible for a player like that to cop the feel, swing, and groove of a player like Ed. Ditto for Jason on drums. Both instruments need eachother to do it right. The only two who can nail that groove that makes those songs live and breathe are Ed and Al. That's not an insult to Joe and Jason. It's just testament to how supremely unique Ed and Al were musically. You can't beat brothers.

@e.l.norton3 ай бұрын
@@jmhutner No need. I'm sure. The solo is actually pretty easy. I guess Joe isn't trying to imitate Eddie. He's just doing his version of Van Halen, because Satch could easily reproduce the solo. Even the rhythm he's being loose with.
