Love this, when you use the level 9 to get your final result, was it still considered warm ? You mentioned before that the natural side of the swatch chart is cooler compared to the natural remaining pigment side, so would you still need to add some ash into that level 9 to allow it to read more natural and avoid a hot root look ? Or would you use a level 9N so the results are warmer ? My main concern is leaving a little more depth at the root even if a warmer result is desired.
@Bensukmarie2 жыл бұрын
Hey there! I understood if you wanted to keep the warmth in the level 6 1/2 you would use a 9N. So what did you use for the ashy 6 1/2? 9A or 9AA ? This video was very helpful! I’ve been struggling with formulating since I started doing hair a year ago.

Hi. I’m new to color and you are my new hero. In this example I fine that the 9 tube end result seems cooler than the desired result level 7. Like I said I’m new. Just asking. Also when applying the color9 as a touch up. Are you applying to the roots and work down the shaft? And if there is gray, is the tube of 9 implied to suffice for gray? Thanks in advance.

Yes remember T is blue and you mixed with yellow which together makes green the key to a beautiful silver is pretoning the yellow first then applying your silver formula

I’m trying this on for size, but am still stumped because I’ve always understood the “weight” of pigments change as the levels get lighter. Is the dye load at a level 9 strong enough to tone the RPC at a level 7 if a neutral/cool result is desired?

On a level 4, a stylist applied a level 9 and 20vol.The result was copper, very warm. By adding a level 9 color to the base 4 we get 9+4=13÷2= 6.5. By using the Universal Law of color: 9x2=18-4=14. Which one should I use? I'm confused.

Thanks Elaine. So if my client is a level 4 with 70% grey and she wants to be a level 7 natural ashy I would then use a level 10 base tube in ash and a volume 30 peroxide tI get the 3 levels of lift? I've tried lifting these dark colors and always get hot roots no matter how ash I go even when adding extra blue and green boosters. Will the level 10 ash really cover the warmth ofIm the underlaying pigment? I'm scared to try this but I definately will try.
@ElaineTraviscolorexpert3 жыл бұрын
Hi Terri the math equation is for natural hair and does not apply for 70% grey also it is always 20 volume In order to fully cover 70% grey you need to be level 8 or deeper so you would achieve a level 6 result so be sure to include some ash in your formula to combat the warmth at a level 6
@terrig57043 жыл бұрын
@@ElaineTraviscolorexpert hi Elaine. Thank you so much I really appreciate your reply. After years being fed up with orange hair I'm also back to the drawing board and so glad I came across your channel. So am I then correct that if I use the formula like you've said, level 8 ash with 20vol on level 4 with 70% grey the end result should be something like a level 6 and the 8 base used will then make the grey a level 8 dimentional highlight in between that level 6? Im stuck with the ladies that have hair like that sample youve shown, the natural 5 with 50% grey and they want to be a natural 7 but they want the grey also covered to a level 7.
@ElaineTraviscolorexpert3 жыл бұрын
@@terrig5704 you need a % of a neutral in there if she is 70% grey a level 8 ash does not cover grey alone.

@@ElaineTraviscolorexpert Thank you so much. Then i’ve been wondering about another scenario. Will the clients natural level 5 with no grey lift to a level 8 if I use your formula? If I do the math correctly that would mean using a level 11. Will a superlightner 11.2 lift that high and cover waentjie with a vol20 peroxide or should I use the brand recommendation of vol40 and ratio 1:2? Or will the warmth be too much and should I rather lighten with bleach and then deposito level 8 in the right tone? Sorry for all the questions i'm just so excited to try your way instead of the old failed ways. Xx
@ElaineTraviscolorexpert3 жыл бұрын
@@terrig5704 I would recommend reading my book unfortunately this is not a simple answer. There are always many factors when formulating such as density, porosity and condition and hair history. The way teach is completely different than manufacturer instructions so it can be confusing when taken out of context. I have a training that explains it in much more detail called Fearless Formulation

I am trying to wrap my head around formulating for Copper. I understand that if i want to get a Level 6 brown copper on a natural Level 3, I would need to use a level 9. I dont want to neutralize the brassiness nor do i want it warmer. As the underlying pigment is already an orange-Red, would I use a 9N?
@ElaineTraviscolorexpert3 жыл бұрын
Hi Noelle, yes so if you want the level 6 to be more of a golden copper then I suggest using a 9G with 20 vol if you want a more subtle reddish brown then yes 9N alone will do the trick. Keep in mind if it is virgin hair you have to formulate differently for mids and ends then the regrowth to avoid hot roots

I got you. Thank you. just one more question. Is this maths works in Redken toners too.Also one more silly question. with Redken toner N/Na/V, how to decide that which will go more
@ElaineTraviscolorexpert3 жыл бұрын
Hi Soni, no redken toners are deposit only. The math is for Universal Law of lift so it does not apply. As far as the difference between N/NA/V it depends on what tones you are needing to cancel. So for example NA cancels orange, V cancels yellow etc.
