My Mum is turning 102 early next year and her memory is still amazing. She has told me about those electrical perming rods that came out of the ceiling as she had perms like that when it first came out. If you squealed one burnt you they would give you a discount off the price 😄 She dyed her hair right up until her 90s and still has the old fashioned ammonia type perms to this day! Her hair is still healthy (and still attached) 😄 but now the most beautiful (cotton ball) white. I think she has just been very lucky!

I got perms consistently from like 4 years to 12 years, then I chopped my hair off and it grew back with natural curls and wave. After having kids I chopped it off again and it grew back with these perfect, soft spirals. It also has large sections of silver, the biggest are in the front, like Rogue from X-Men. I have an unknown genetic condition that has been causing all kinds of problems, and the extreme buildup and bleeding on my scalp is causing my hair to thin, but I may have to shave part of my head soon to have a piece of my brain removed... Maybe my hair will grow back even curlier lol

I am from Seoul, Korea, and I love Korean hair salons. I have had a digital perm before. It takes 5-6 hours to get the hair done in Korea. Whether it's digital perm or straight perm calls magic! Lol. Now I am in the US, hard to find a good hairdresser with good cutting skills.

I'm not shocked. I was today years old when I found out that Asian hair is so different from Caucasian hair! I always knew African hair was different but no idea about Asian hair. Now I'm wondering just all the different types there are. I'm sure lots of people are ignorant to the differences and that's why it's so hard.

Digital perm or electronic perm has been well established in South Korea, Japan, Taiwan, and Hong Kong for nearly 30 years. I used to get one every one and a half years. And yes, it is pricy (US $ 400~500 including cut, dye, perm, and deep treatment) , but it will last a long time if the hairdresser knows your hair quality. Normally, the rods are made with ceramics, so also called ceramic perm.

My mother got a ‘Digital Perm’ by Revlon / Realistic where the hair is rolled on special rods and a special perm solution is applied. A machine with sensor probes are inserted into the center of some of the rods in each section of hair, the probes monitor the pH and activity of the wave solution and signal the computer panel to check the rods in that area and if needed apply a booster solution or a buffer solution to hair as needed to ensure a strong, well conditioned wave without over or under curling.

Different places, hair, technique, products, instruments, has changed and "evolved" to adapt to the wants and needs the people expected in their reality... No matter how surreal some methods seems to be! 😁 But remering the home perms of the 70's, the smell of the amonia especially when rinsing in the kitchen sink face down 🤢 that stuff is not even allowed to clean building lobbies anymore! 😄 Even Dad was getting one and I did my Mom's very young! Funny now I remember I practiced on my big doll (very cooperative cobaye!) and went to show that I know how to do it to my hairdresser aunt knowing my Mom wouldn't believe me! So she corrected some sectioning and roller orientation and explained why (love her 🤗) and then knew why Mom's very orderly 1 for all method were showing different expectations! As for this machine, it looks like the psychological tests done in the 60s! Or Medusa! 😁 Thanks for Being! 🤗 💓🦋

In school, we had many students from Asia. They always explain the thing, with wearing a mask: Wearing a mask is a sign of repect to others, while you are feeling sick. Wearing a mask is usually a thing in big cities, where people suffer from the bad air (smog) because of industry and traffic. The face shield in the video probably protects ALL involved persons from the perm solutions? Could this be a reason? :-)

It’s common to have multiple people work on your hair when getting it braided by the Africans. It’s actually makes more sense. The client isn’t there for hours and it’s let’s work on the individual hands. Everyone works together to make the process smooth and it’s a set price before they get started so the price doesn’t go up just because multiple people are working on one head.
@tiahnarodriguez38092 жыл бұрын
That sounds efficient. In the states it’s usually one person who will braid your hair, and you’ll be there for 6+ hours with prices ranging from $100-300 depending which style you get or how long your hair takes to do. This is actually why I learned to do my own braids because sitting in a chair for 6+ hours was just too much for me.
@angelfaye1012 жыл бұрын
@@tiahnarodriguez3809 I think it depends on where you go. I’ve been to some salons or braid shops where only one person has worked on my head and I’ve been to some where 2 people have worked together. Like the OP said whenever it was 2 people braiding the work was completed a lot faster and I assume it means that they can get more clients completed during the shift bc I was never charged more for having the extra staff complete my style. And I live in the DMV btw.
@felixhenson99262 ай бұрын
what do you mean by 'braided by the Africans'?
@angelinanotangie41722 ай бұрын
@@felixhenson9926 African American and African immigrants have different culture and techniques when it comes to braiding. African American places usually have one person do a head, shops run by African immigrants tend to have multiple people on a head. Look up box braids and Fulani braids to see the type of braiding she’s talking about.

The ladies in the videos are Filipinas so I believe these are Korean or Japanese salons here in Manila that have been operating for years now. I heard about these salons offering digital perms maybe in 2012 but not sure if they've been giving them earlier than that. About the face shield, we were mandated to wear both the mask and shield when we had the first lockdown in the country due to covid which was in 2020. And yes, it was very uncomfortable to have to wear them. We were only allowed to stop using the shield I think last year after we've seen a huge drop in cases.

When younger, I had ash blond( natural) hair, past shoulder length. I would get it done in a spiral perm,& they always checked at intervals, because it took a curl very easily. The only bad one I had was an 'apple pectin' perm. Now, oddly enough, my hair is really dark at age 62, still ash toned, but I keep it very short - do it myself with clipper+guards,& a little hand scissoring. Looks the same as when I was going to a salon, done my own since Covid19 lockdowns. Oh,& I was used to doing the differing lengths on clip because I also do my own Airedale Terrier's grooming...and yes, I have a complete set of proper scissors including the curved ones. It's a pity my hair won't go grey, but I am not going to do any bleaching!😮

I don't want to negate what you are saying about Asian hair, but I had a friend who was Chinese (both parents from Hong Kong specifically) and she was able to curl her long hair with nothing but foam curlers overnight. Because her hair was long, the curl would only hold about half way up, but that's honestly as good as my Scandinavian hair will do at the same length with the same technique.

Per what I looked up it said that a digital perm is 2-3hrs. So unless that place is adding in extra steps and product to make it seem like they are giving more for the price that's why they might say 6hrs. Plus that second girl looks like her hair had bleached??

That was very cool. It’s weird to me because I have curly hair that somebody would spend six hours to get it. I noticed that they get the curly straight hair that I always have the hairdresser do to me when I go get my hair done. Lol

As a naturally curly hair girl I can get this look by just putting my hair in a low ponytail for a couple of hours.

Same. But not all hair stylists can cut curly, thick hair. I always wanted straight hair as a kid 🤣.

Same. I get this from just air drying. I did get my hair permanently straightened before- same principle but it was too difficult to maintain as my roots were coming out curly 😅

No I have never seen it until today. The results were pretty cool. I'm realizing how we all love to expand in experience, so we all love to try something we don't have. All races, all backgrounds, you will find numbers who are willing to do something extreme to have something they don't have, from texture to colour. We're all on one boat.

A claw machine for toys. Those "claws" resembled those. I immediately thought of the cows udders machine thingy for milking. What they're called, 🤷🏻♀️.. Weird but neat...

It's a very intensive and I imagine very expensive process I expected maybe more I don't know but more intense results but it leaves the hair looking very natural and subtle it's really pretty but I like my black poker straight hair I'm not Asian but have always had Asian like hair. Nice video it's the first time I've seen this style done, I can't see it taking off in a busy Toni and Guy in Manchester city centre mind 😂😂✌🏻

@@hair-buddha Below the Gillette picture, with a `V` in the top right corner. A woman looks like wearing a black bustier, red high heals, legs up and um, open....I know that's not what it really is, but I cant be the only one that sees that. I'm embarrassed to ask lol. I love your videos! I'm a retired hair stylist.

I started hairdressing in 1972. We had a theory class on this very old style of perming.My thought was the women in the 40s 50s.would do anything to have curly hair. What they got is burned frizzy ends. With more fish hooked ends than you can count!! …✌️❤️😧😅

That was so cool! I'm afraid to get a perm, my hair is so thin and fine. I'm scared that the layering will make it even more thin and negate the fullness I really want. 💜💚

Sorry no offense, but I hate it when a stylist plays with my hair after I get my hair done unless it's to show me how to take care of it. Good video. Thank you for reviewing and sharing 🙂✌
