I'm a very pale white and decided to go ice blonde. I looked sick (think Victorian street urchin fading away from consumption sick). Unless I wore A LOT of makeup, my face was completely washed out. I agree, anyone can be blonde, but you need to find the correct tone that matches the shade and undertones of your skin.

I’m starting cosmetology school in a couple of weeks and learning color is what I’m most excited about. I’m black and I do my own hair. I find that most black salons don’t really focus on cut and color which are essential for an overall style. They know how to pixie really well, but that bumped bob is played. We need some versatility in the community outside of wigs and weaves.

Agreed and I think that now hair education is no longer being gatekept (is that a word? Probably not 🤣) so more black stylists are getting into current hair cut and color trends and techniques and I’m so happy about it.

I think another reason why it wasn’t as popular in black salons is because clients should only have one of the major chemicals treatments (ie relaxer/perm or bleach). A lot of black women decided on a texture treatment so hairstylists focused on that. 15 years ago when I had a relaxer, I was strongly advised against bleach. I did know someone at the time that had bleach and a relaxer and it killed her hair. Not saying this was everyone’s experience.

Yes! For instance Beyonce is natural because she is blond. We often have to choose either or. Now many black women learned how to do their hair in a proper way(without damage) because we really didn't get how to treat natural hair in a way it stayed healthy unless it was in braids 24/7. And because of that, I think more black women even if they wear it straight most of the time, (I am one of them) are lowkey natural and we have inches we never had relaxed. So crazy. Never thought hair color was an option for me.

Speaking of blondes, I would like to view your thoughts on Beyonce’s Cecred haircare line. She spoke about how she chooses bleach over other chemical services and maintains the health of her hair with this line. I think that is another reason why a lot of black women didn’t try blonde colors because they were relaxed, and it was either one or the other. A lot of women are natural nowadays so they can try more color options. And although ultimately people must try things for themselves to see how it works for them, I would like to view your thoughts on other celebrity lines from a stylist point of view.

I bleached my hair when it was natural and it damaged my hair by making it straighter, almost like I had gotten a texturizer. Not sure if it was because my hair is fine or a bad dye job.
@gretahudson8558
@gretahudson8558 Ай бұрын
@@AboutBritney It’s possible. I know that some fine textures are made up of only 2 layers instead of 3. And it could be the level of the developer used. In this video she mentioned she only use 20 volume developer for bleaching. Which makes a lot of sense because you don’t want to blow out your strand in one session. (By the way I like her cooking analogy). A lot of people will reach for a higher volume thinking they can lift to blonde in one session but it depends on what level you are and how light you want to go, whether you have previously dyed hair, etc. Black and dark brown hair will sometimes need more than one bleach session depending on how light they want to go because hair will lift to an orange color first. I just think it’s interesting to see if all of these new patent products that are now on the market really work at strengthening and preventing further damage and breakage.

I agree, there are SO many darker skin tones that look gorgeous with blonde...either highlights or all-over color. But yes, I see way too many Caucasians with the type of fair skin that looks good ONLY with a very few CERTAIN tones of blonde. Certain pale women (& men) look sooo washed out & just plain strange with platinum or ashe blonde. Same with some browns, ie: a family joke was just how HORRIBLE my g-father looked in a brown suit, because of his brownish skin tone & hair, NO color of brown/tan suit looked good on him. My g-father was so cruel to my mom, that when he died, she hallucinated at his funeral, asking g-ma, "WHY did they put him in that BROWN SUIT?!?". The funeral home DID NOT in fact, put him in a brown suit...🤯

Thank you so much for the tip on 11:22 I have had my hair bleached for years and many hairdressers literally made my hair fall because they used a 40 developer always for root touchups, I changed to a new hair dresser a couple years ago and he only uses 20 developer and I stay the entire day at the salon, but hey! now my hair is pretty healthy and doesn't fall off I think more hairdressers should know this, or at least warn the clients about the danger of using a strong developer.

Agree on the non-black poc talk about people wanting to go blonde but too worried that they're too dark to do it. I'm Filipino, and I was always fascinated with dimensional blonde hair like Beyoncé or Mariah and I found the perfect hairstylist for me who did sunkissed highlights that weren't too bright, but just enough to make my hair actually look blonde against my darker skin tone. It's so important for people with deeper skin colors to have some sort of dimension and depth to the blondes we sport because it really compliments the different undertones of our skin.

I'm glad you are doing this because I'm tired of seeing every black chick in a 613.... that does look good on everyone! But there is a shade for everyone After much research I just went blonde my self and after i did 3 (20 vol BlondeME bleach and developer) processes I got it to a level 7/8 but super golden and I hated it. Didn't like the stark contrast against my golden caramel skin ... then I let it rest for a week and did a generic Sally Redken 9v/9nb gloss which became a muted honey blonde and I get so many looks and compliments... it's possible ladies just figure out what toner or gloss to use after the bleach! You got this

I have been going to Black stylists who have a multicultural clientele since my late teens. I am now 47. Because relaxers were popular for so along many of us had to pick either relaxer or color. I was able to relax and color when I was younger because my stylist was a Master Colorist, she only relaxed me 3-4 times a year, and she only used Affirm Fiberguard. My hair was auburn, copper, light brown with blonde highlights and I had no breakage.

Paused the video to say - Ariana probably used her blond tone to match the classic look for her character, Glinda in Wicked. In production photos for the play she definitely looks better, and in harmony with the coloring of the set and Elphaba (Cynthia Ervio), who looks more yellow in her green makeup (likely due to her dark skin tone underneath) than the more blue-green that Idina wore as part of the original casting. Perhaps under the stage lights or with her stage makeup Ariana looks better with the warmer tone blonde. However, seeing her in 'everyday' photos - the blonde shade is a straight NOPE. She's had other blond colors before in only her ponytail over the years that I think suit her better.
