@@skiddzie9291 The reason being: **He wasn't acting.** He had just been in a mental hospital and kinda randomly auditioned. He's talked about how everything was a blur during that time and he genuinely felt what the character was supposed to feel. Apparently he remembers hating the kid's guts, and during the "ice cream" scene (fucking green clam chowder) he wanted to shove the spoon in the kid's mouth. So of *course* he was the best actor. It’s truly a gem. It’s the perfect sort of approachable bad movie. Often bad movies are badly made, or acted out by people who don’t care. The badly made ones are easier to appreciate if you know about film making and the mistakes they are making, the badly acted ones tend to be a slog unless there’s something else fun. Troll 2 is acted out by people who care about the movie and deliver their lines passionately. The issues with the movie are very clearly in the creative side of things, with the direction and script. So it’s just fun to watch because you see these amateur actors passionately acting out this bizarre vision.

I don't think the love people have for the actors in Troll 2 isn't genuine just because they love the movie for being bad. I really don't get the feeling people are making for of them for being in this film, they're happy that the actual people who made it happen are having fun with them and enjoying this thing they love that they never thought would ever become famous. Plus, there's also this satisfying feeling of the underdog, the little, hard-working man somehow achieving success, even if it wasn't the way it was supposed to be. In fact, there's something even more cathartic in the knowledge that they found a way to make it work that they shouldn't have. It's like they beat the system, without even trying.
@user-ow1bc4sx2r4 ай бұрын
replying to an ancient comment but it also helps that the acting in troll 2 is pretty good (relative to your average shitty movie). The issue is with what the director made them do and say. So we can easily celebrate the actors for their enthusiastic participation in a weird fun thing, and we don’t blame them for the quality

I just watched the Troll 2 and it's actually amazing! I think this is the most misunderstood movie ever made. Let me explain - you guys in America probably don't know but in Europe there is this pretty popular italian fairy tale movie called Princess Fantaghiro (the official name is Cave of Golden Rose). And while watching Troll 2 at one point I said "This kind of looks like a Fantaghiro movie". And it really does - the very overacting witch, her "lab", the goblins, people turning into trees, the shape shifting, witch seducing someone, etc. ... it all screams italian fairy tale (Especially the witch! She plays it perfect! That's 100% italian witch performance!). And I was like "ok, ok, I think I get it, it's a fairy tale, just mixed with horror". And when I looked at it as an italian (horror) fairy tale of that era, it's not that bad, it's not great but it's very entertaining and has a lot of great ideas. Only later I discovered that I actually might be right - the director is actually an Italian and as I read his intention was really to do "comic horror story for families, without blood"
@AFarmerCalledChicken4 жыл бұрын
So... it's just poorly translated? It seems like, if given an original Italian movie with the actual story you're talking about, it'd be twice as great!
@bryansmith16913 жыл бұрын
So he called it troll 2 why? Part of why it's considered so bad is bc it's misidentification
@dosnostalgic2 жыл бұрын
@@bryansmith1691 It wasn't meant to be, originally. It was called "Goblin". It was retitled later by the producers to tie it in with another moderately successful to cash in on its name, a practice that wasn't uncommon at the time, especially for foreign shlock films.

I just came back to this because I realized how lucky I was the other day. See, many years ago... when streaming just started... I was watching a lot of movies, especially free movies. I know I had seen Troll on the shelves of vhs stores in my youth, and I felt like I watched it before... I decided to watch it again. Watched it and had a grand ole time. Harry Potter made me come up with a conspiracy and the Ghoulies characters gave me flashbacks to being a kid. Then, I see Troll 2. "Ok, let's go." I actually got to watch Troll 2 before hearing anything about it. Now, the movie isn't so out rightly infamous at the start. I thought the car scene was kinda intense and actually kinda creepy so I didn't turn it off. I was thinking about this the other day tho... the "you don't piss on hospitality" scene made me deliver the actual "Oh my gooooood" line before the omg line itself happens. To me... there was something profound about that revelation. A couple other side notes. I felt like the peter pan looking guy in the intro looked like Daniel Tosh, so that got me through the bad effects during the intro. The scene with the whole family backing up slowly from the town had some kool horror synth music that made that scene actually compelling. I was hooked from beginning to end. Years later I saw how infamous the movie had become on the internet and I gotta be honest... it's so much better to go into Troll 2 without knowing it's what it is.
