Terminator: Salvation threw out Terminator 3, and Terminator: Genysys threw out Terminators 3 & 4, and Terminator: Dark Fate threw out all of them. So the series is effectively two movies and four fanfictions.
@zenoblues77874 жыл бұрын
Actually it is implied Terminator 3 is canon to Terminator Salvation although it's never outright stated whether it is or isn't.
@fnordiumendures1384 жыл бұрын
Thing is, Dark Fate also kind of threw out T2. John Connor didn't survive anyway, the sacrifice of Arnold-bot and Dyson didn't matter, the apocalypse wasn't stopped. T2 might as well not have happened as none of it was important.
@bhind454 жыл бұрын
@Zeno Blues Katherine Brewster is in it and Judgement Day takes place on 2004 instead of the original 1997 date. T3 definitely is canon to Salvation.
@shahidmirza11384 жыл бұрын
@@fnordiumendures138 wrong. They did prevent the the judgment day. Skynet was replaced by Legion. In the end it doesn't mater because we human will always create AI. Declare AI unethical and prevent human from creating it then we might have peace.
@BeeTeeGee4 жыл бұрын
There's a few things in Salvation that directly connect it to T3. The character of Kate Brewster is still around and is now John's wife (like the T-850 revealed in T3), the new Judgement Day happens in 2004 and T-1 units (with a redesign) show up. Salvation's intention was to start up a new trilogy, but at the same time it still followed on from T3's plot.

How do you best destroy something? Think about it in human terms. You don't want to kill someone you hate. You want to torture them while keeping them alive, hopefully forever. It's essentially hell--eternal torture. So the best way to kill a series is not to stop producing it, but to keep making bad iterations of it again and again and again and again. That's why I always say it's best to let a series rest in peace than keep it 'alive' just to torture its mangled meat sack of a body. Nobody agrees with me.

New Terminator Movie: Skynet decides to try quantity over quality. It sends hundreds of terminators back in time all at once, in an attempt to inconvenience John Connor so heavily in his day to day life that it drives him to suicide. John Connor's late for work because his alarm clock was a terminator and it went off late. Terminators infiltrate John's workplace and have an office party that they don't invite him to. John has intimacy issues because every woman he dates turns out to be a terminator. Terminators replaced all the cereal in John's house with plain unflavored cereal. Terminators keep resetting John's router so that his neighbors can steal his wifi. John refuses to get therapy because the last time he tried it the therapist turned out to be a terminator who was also pretty bad at being a therapist.

@Horatio7874 жыл бұрын
@@MarsofAritia No, a reboot is still within canon but is a remake in all other ways. Force Awakens is a reboot of A New Hope because it has the same structure and elements, but still has returning characters. A de-boot is when say Terminator 4 is a sequel to Terminator 2 and it canonically ignores 3. I'd say I prefer Rich Evans's definition though, which is when they try to remake a franchise (Doom 3, DmC Devil May Cry) and then that fails so they ignore it and just continue with the previous canon (DOOM 2016, Devil May Cry 5).

@@Horatio787 You're mistaking reboot with "soft reboot". The Dark Knight movies were a reboot because it discards all the previous Batman films. otto andersson I still have the most respect for Salvation. It came closest from escaping the “future robots try to kill someone who will be important in the future” plot which is literally every Terminator plot ever. But at least they put somewhat of an interesting twist on it by having it take place in the future, and this time Kyle Reese is the figure which must be protected so that he can be sent back to the past. Plus, I give that movie’s team and not Dark Fate’s credit for creating a human who is turned into a half-Terminator, which is a cool idea that I think is fleshed out a little better in Dark Fate. I know conventional Hollywood wisdom is to steer clear of anthology-type series’, but I think the Terminator franchise’s best chance of success is to do more stand alone movies in the Terminator world but that don’t have much of anything to do with time travel and don’t touch anything the original two movies did. We haven’t seen really that much of the future war, so why don’t they tell some stories there? Or maybe instead of just trying to assassinate one person from the resistance at a time, they have a whole hit list of key humans that the humans have to try to save. (Again, something brushed over but not really done in Salvation.)
@ottoandersson22164 жыл бұрын
@@bradenhogan2 I agree with having respect for salvation. I think it's 75 percent a really good movie. Despite being pg 13, I found it more frightening and atmospheric than dark fate. I just think the politics of the future wasn't done well (not that it can't be). I also think Helen Carter Burton is an awful actress mostly (and especially in this film). I loved the the idea of a cyborg. I guess Tim pool did too because he stole the idea and it was actually okay. Salvation sis it better tho

Something else I think makes Dark Fate Sarah Conner awful is that they just completely change her character? In T2 she's not a badass because she can take on Terminators, she's a badass because she knows she can't beat them but tries to face them down anyway to protect her son. A normal person being able to confidently try to fight terminators just removes any of the terror of a murderous soulless death machine always trying to kill you.

Sarah wasn't there, they had a falling out because John believed it was over and she couldn't let go, so she's still the crazy militarist. She comes into the story because John's dead and her granddaughter is in danger. Just like that you don't shit all over the original and Sarah is in the story organically without the convoluted "I hunt terminator's and get tipped off where they're going to show up from someone."
