If it was nostalgic, I would have a pleasant memory of watching this Halloween in the early 80s, and revisit it because it reminds me of that time. In fact, the early 80s was when I was being sexually abused by my mother, so I can promise you I don't look back fondly on that time in any way, shape, or form, indeed my life was a living nightmare then. I didn't even see this Halloween until the mid 90s when I was an adult. Best Halloween film out of all of them. Certainly the most original.

Besides the obvious meaning of "none of the trick or treating kids come home bc they're all killed by the Silver Shamrock masks", there's also the play on the original Halloween tagline "The night HE comes home" and saying "no one comes home" is hinting that Michael Myers isn't even in this movie.

Actually it doesn't make sense at all. In order for Cochran's plan to work the children HAD to be home, in front of the TV on Halloween night.

@@mikehunt4986 I don't think it's about the children. I think it refers to the visitors of Santa Mira. The Kupffers are killed. Marge dies because of a "misfire". Another great episode of this series! This one just didn't get the gravitas it really deserved due to the whole expectation it would be another Michael Myers story. I'd argue this was one of the films which took a big chance and dared to go in another direction. I am so glad in the years since its initial release, it seems to have gotten the love it truly deserves. Tom Atkins is "The Man." Like you point out in the trivia bit, I still scratch my noggin about when Ellie became a 'bot or if she was one all along. Dan O'Herlihy was a great character actor who also showed up in one my personal favorite TV shows of all time - Twin Peaks. Great villain here! Can't recommend this one enough for a first viewing for new watchers or for a rewatch for those who can't get enough. Again, great episode and can't wait for the next one!

definitely the best halloween flick in the series. closely followed by halloween 2 (1981). the reason it's so good is because it's the most 911-coded flick in the whole series. and the reason i say that is because it's aimed at the entire world, rather than at haddonfield being terrorized by a psycho. part 3 is an examination of how the controllers control the entire world through industry, media, law, medicine, and even technology. awareness of all of these tricks is why this movie is superior. helps us get a glimpse so we can evolve higher to christ consciousness. also, the music is so much better in this one than the others. very gothic. real dark.

This is one of those horror movies where you mostly have to turn your brain off and just enjoy the ride. Cochran's plan really didn't make a whole lot of sense and logically, it fell apart like tissue paper if it was examined. *That made it absolutely no less horrifying.* Daniel O'Herlihy, aka "The Old Man" from the Robocop franchise, puts in an absolutely smashing performance as an evil warlock planning a mass human sacrifice on the Festival of Samhain, using magitek, a flashing pumpkin signal and some extremely destructive magic to execute the sacrifice. The novelization got a lot more explicit about many ambiguous aspects of the movie. For example, it described *exactly* what was happening in that mask that Little Buddy was wearing. It also made it explicit that Cochran won at the end, and even strongly suggested that he wasn't destroyed, but *teleported away* by Stonehenge. He was a millenia-old warlock. They don't die easy. And millions upon millions of kids, and their families, died horribly as Challis screamed "STOP IT!!" into the phone. I think of Carpenter had just titled the movie "Season of the Witch" and described it as "part of a new Halloween-themed anthology series" fans might have been much more accepting of it. But his production company insisted on putting the "Halloween III" sticker on it, and that almost incomprehensable decision all but doomed it. I'm glad it's getting some love now.

This came out in the UK in June of '93, meaning I was 13 when I saw it at the cinema, yeah, my local wasn't particularly stringent on observing the age ratings! I'm not sure if I'd seen Halloween before seeing this, I know that I didn't have any expectation of seeing Michael Myers, but I have a vague recollection that I knew that it was a completely different film to the previous entries. My capacity for horror films is pretty variable, but the thing that always gets me are films that really build up tension before springing a jump scare on you; in the case of this film, that scene where the camera is looking out over the town through an open doorway, when the figure steps into view and you get the jangle of music that made me quite literally jump out of my seat!
