Cochran uttering "Happy Halloween" to Dr. Challis while the original Halloween music plays in the background is more scarier than the song playing with Michael Myers walking. I'm not sure about anyone else, but I'd like see a prequel or sequel to "Season of the Witch" showing the history of how Silver Shamrock was developed and a younger Cochran's coven during the ancient pagan times during the festival of Samhain 3000 years prior to the events in "Season of the Witch", and the aftermath of the modern sacrifice. @@cazgoldie813 🤨very interesting how most people in these comments don’t know John Carpenters (creator of Halloween) true vision Allow me to enlighten you all. Carpenter originally planned for the Halloween movies to be a different series of movies, like an anthology or collection of stories. It’s highly speculated that he most likely would’ve connected them all somehow (especially given how Michael mimics these android things down to detail). Michael Myers storyline was just supposed to be two movies, that’s why he kills Michael and Dr Loomis in the explosion at the end of Halloween II. This movie came out and people hated it because it has nothing to do with MM. It was a box office 💣 and he sunk a lot of $$$ into this. He later sold the rights of the Halloween Franchise to some guy named Moustopha Akkad or whatever his name is, who then pumped out 4, which is why 4 is called “Halloween the Return of Michael Myers”. And also why 4,5,6 kinda suck! 6 had a great story that they could’ve connected to this but they decided “Hack and Slash” 🔪 instead. This movie is actually very good and the real Halloween 4 would’ve prob been amazing as multiple sources report it’s original script supposedly about some kinda Ghost; but most young people prob wouldn’t have liked that either as it’s beyond that of someone in a mask running around cliche..🙄

Probably the best, most poetic, Gothic part of the film. I only wish Cochran had said, instead of showing the film HALLOWEEN on the TV (which, though, is so cool, great, meta and classic in itself), he had said, "We knew it was time to return when, a few years ago, there was that very nasty business in Haddonfiled, Illinois, involving a killer mad man who escaped from a mental hospital, and went back to his home town to play some delicious tricks on the townsfolk...and his Sister...then disappeared after killing a dozen people on Halloween night...quite a scary trick...the time began for us to begin Our work then..." That would have been even creepier, and, it would have tied the hoped-for anthology films to be, in some way, connected to the original Halloween universe. Either way, it's a cool callback. Mr. Oherlihy was excellent in this role.
@lionelhutz51377 жыл бұрын
Yea! it would've provided an eerie lead up to the whole ancient cult controlling Michael Myers but , at this time, I don't think they had any plans after the third film to bring back Michael Myers as they wanted to turn the franchise into anthology-type movies (like the 'Creepshow' series).
@MrImastinker7 жыл бұрын
Better yet, this should have been a prequel to the whole franchise. Think about it: Cochran is performing a mass sacrifice of innocent blood. But why? What is he trying to appease? That's where the story of Michael Myers comes in. When his scheme is even partially thwarted, an ancient evil lashes out in outrage over its sacrifice not being fulfilled. It takes matters into its own hands and manifests in the form of a young boy. A boy who stabs his sister to death. The Thorn trilogy could have worked if the cult wasn't controlling Michael, but rather trying to aid in his mission and appease the evil inside him. Thorn would be just a name, a name for something too ancient and powerful to understand. Halloween 4's ending would see the evil passed on to Jamie, and Halloween 5 would feature Wynn spiriting her away. Halloween 6 would bring things full circle when Loomis and Tommy would free Jamie from the evil. But it would be reborn in Michael again, as his body would be in possession of the cult. And THEN the movie series would end in H20.

The franchise is not called Michael Myers, its called Halloween, so there is no logical reason for people to insist Michael Myers be in it. As for those wishing it was called Season of the Witch rather than Halloween III: Season of the Witch, remember that there is already a movie called Season of the Witch, so in addition to it being an alternative concept to the previous two Halloween movies, there would be the issue of copyright infringement. This speech is from Halloween III: The Season of the Witch directed by Tommy Lee Wallace and produced by Debra Hill and John Carpenter. This scene is between the sinister Conal Cochran, played with suave malevolence by Dan O’Herlihy, and Dr. Daniel Challis, played by John Carpenter alum Tom Atkins. As a piece of dialog, it is great. More than great, it is EXCELLENT. The movie itself was not received well, but has garnered something of a cult following (no pun intended) in the ensuing decades.
@frankdodd33554 жыл бұрын
Thus scene and the atmosphere it creates is amazing, but it culminates when he pauses, almost absently, to look at Challis coldly to say "Happy Halloween" without any cheerful inflection whatsoever. After what he revealed to Challis of the REALITY of Halloween (in the film's universe at least) it's such a cynical, mocking, cold-blooded moment and O'Herlihy sells it perfectly, completely without joy or any semblance of the stereotypical supervillain moment. Wonderful. And then the classic Halloween music kicks in to underscore it. Just great. It's a shame the whole Halloween universe thing did not pan out because this film is great horror schlock with Cochran at the center and the pop culture specter of Michael Myers in the background.

1-3 were really good, 4 was great nostalgia, 5-6 were terrible, H20 was really good, resurrection was terrible but guilty pleasure, Halloween 2007 was ok, Halloween 2 2009 was the worst ever made, and Halloween 2018 was in the middle, had good moments but the comedy and doctor turning evil ruined the movie.

It's a joke, bro. And besides our hands our tied because the alignment of the planets commands us to have a huge sacrifice this Halloween. Got you. As a movie villain, you have to give Cochran credit for his fanatical devotion to his beliefs, no matter how savage. Only thing miss to firmly tie this movie to the first two would be a magically revived Michael Myers in the witchcraft laboratory of Silver Shamrock. Too bad the anthology concept didn't make it. Would have been better than having Michael Myers coming back to slash up more people, again and again.

Being Scottish and Celtic, Halloween is one of my favourite holidays since it resonates on a personal and cultural level. ‘Halloween III’ might’ve been better placed as a stand alone movie, but regardless, it still had that old school John Carpenter feel and vibe. I always watch this at least once a year (usually just before Halloween). Perhaps not a masterpiece, but I still consider it a classic.
@taylorpack77054 жыл бұрын
Carpenter should have continued to make more stories after this. People would have eventually came around.
@ronaldh84463 жыл бұрын
There wasn't a studio willing to back him after this fizzled quickly at the box office. So unfair! The advertising campaign was so minuscule no one had any idea Myers wasn't the antagonist. Universal had so little faith in it they decided to fool the public, collect a big opening weekend and move on. I hated this movie on opening weekend, thought about it for a few days, saw it again the following weekend and have loved it ever since.
@taylorpack77052 жыл бұрын
@@ronaldh8446 I think where they made the mistake is not having this be part 2. They should have let carpenter do his stories at least 1 more time. I guess part 4 was supposed to be a ghost story. They should have made that one and I think people would have understood and if they didn’t you could have brought Michael back and did part 2.
@ronaldh84462 жыл бұрын
@@taylorpack7705 I think that is completely valid. Once Myers was the protagonist in the 2nd flick the anthology idea was immediately behind the 8-Ball. I still think it may have worked - at least with audiences at the time - had they been open in the advertising. HALLOWEEN: SEASON OF THE WITCH without the III (3) to start with. And a tagline stating that Carpenter/Hill, the creators, bring you a whole new tale of terror. Universal dropped the ball. And Carpenter - even with his B movie sensibilities - as usual, was ahead of his time.

@@ronaldh8446 if it were me I would have called each film this Halloween: season of the boogeyman Halloween: season of the boogeyman 2 Halloween: season of the witch That way people maybe would have understood a little better. The first 3 are the best then H20. 4 was ok but the rest are terrible.

I like how the music from the original Halloween fits perfectly with this scene, almost as if they're actually tied together and not completely separate timelines. I still think if the H18/HK/HE trilogy actually suggests that Michael's mask is the source of his power, perhaps Silver Shamrock/Cult Of Thorn could be linked to it...? Big stretch though.
