It’s the other way around actually. The elites never trusted them. In fact until the last few years of the human covenant war brutes weren’t allowed to control many ships and what ships they did control had most of the major weapons and other systems disabled by the elites. It was only because of the prophet of truth that brutes even had functional ships and armor.

I just thought it was interesting that when the brutes captured those humans on Beta Gabriel, and then the brutes started fighting each other they mentioned that Marine reinforcements arrived and easily wiped the brutes out. I believe Halsey had already calculated those numbers before which is how she found the candidates for the Spartan II project. This is bit too much generalization about Brute pack behavior based on the one evolutions story. The fact is Brutes in post war Halo don't always act this way. They seem more in line with general mercenaries and will adapt to survive. The Brute Atriox in Halo Wars 2 kind of backs up this sentiment as well because it shows a Brute that actually thinks.

So brutes are just like super mutants from fallout cause they also hang every thing but idk if super mutants eat people but I see similarities
