There are moments where this comes to mind when you work at a Publix Deli. When you pull a group of frozen shrimp to throw in the fryer and they're all conjoined by breading and you find yourself unable to do much but wonder how it would feel to be some creature plucked from your home alongside your friends only to be ungracefully welded to them. I'm not a vegan or anything. I love eating meat and shrimp and fish, but there are moments when the fryer oil is all you hear and the hiss of a slicer hovers over you when you can't help but wonder just how many animals you process in a day. I skewer easily over 200 chickens in a day. Fry maybe a thousand if you consider every 20 piece wing at least 10 chickens. We go through hundreds of pounds of Deli meat every day for sandwiches, serving, catering. It's kinda sobering to think of at times.

That Deli ham is the productive use of a waste product, recycling left over pig parts into a usable product, this reduces the amount of pigs that need to be fed and killed, and reduces the carbon emissions of the operation, while also reducing the amount of farm land required to the support the lesser amount of pigs. The existence of this Deli ham protects natural life in what small ways it can. The fact that people would have a problem with it for being "unnatural" is comedically ironic and probably instigated by companies wishing to raise their profit margins as they in some twisted hard to comprehend way benefit from the less efficent usage of factory farmed meat products.
