I've returned to round titanium frames and strongly considering returning to steel. Exactly what do you think you're gaining by spending $8k on a bike if you aren't racing? I climb a lot and can't tell the difference between a 16lb bike and a 20lb bike. A couple of days ago I did 34 miles and 2200 feet of climbing with a large part of it 10% or steeper. Is it really that important to do that same ride 10 minutes faster? While spending a small fortune on a bike that will wear out. Carbon fiber may be forever but resin is not.

Just ordered this bike - a few points. On the bars, they (Ribble) do say they looked at different size rider legs and positions and found that the wake generators were an improvement in all cases they studied. That said, I'm sure the effect is miniscule. Also, the bars do come in a wide variety of lengths and widths. The primary benefit IMO will be optimizing your position via narrower starting widths they suggest. On the flared downtube - I appreciate designing around a standard water bottle. I won't be using special proprietary aero bottles. As for supposed time savings - of course that's nonsense. A difference in how the wind blows, or your helmet probably makes a bigger difference. I bought the bike because I thought it looked great, I like the bars and the bolt on shift levers. Being able to customize the paint job and a very attractive price for the level of components sealed the deal. I'm an old fat dude and don't expect to see any improvement in speed, but I was ready for a new bike and this one was my favorite. Overall, yes, the claims of the most aero bike in the world are a joke. The gains are absurdly overhyped. But, it's a great looking bike with really attractive pricing and nice customization options.

Hey Hambini, I think your criticism is a bit pointless here. I mean, we all know that claims like "x seconds faster on y km" is marketing bullshit. I don't even believe that this frame has ever seen a wind tunnel. Most likely drag coefficient and "gain of speed" is just based on CFD. I also think that the drag coefficient of the pure frame, without wheels, crank set or even a rider, makes some sense because this way you cancel out all those uncertainties you have to face with real world riding situations. Only then, although not optimal, you can compare drag coefficients of different frame sets.
@robertsimpson24743 жыл бұрын
I agree just because the CFD is not 100% valid for all riding situations doesn't mean you can't design a bike or do a back to back comparison with it, provided you validate the CFD using more "real" measurements

The idea of changing the bikes geometry in order to improve the combined Cd of bike+rider seems to be something more manufacturers are trying to pursue lately. They tried to do the same thing recently with the Lotus Hope BT at the olympics with the ridiculously wide forks and seat stays. Can this design approach actually work? To me it's a bunch of hype. Sure it might make a tiny bit of difference, but let's face it. This is not a motorcycle, using a windscreen and fairings to mitigate wind at speed. This is an open frame, susceptible to drag from ever changing air conditions, while also relying on rider position and gear, to vastly offset most of the turbulence.
@robertsimpson24743 жыл бұрын
I think you're being a little harsh on the CFD. They said multiple leg positions and yaw angles were examined to reflect real world conditions. Do you really expect there to be a pedalling action? Calling bs on that. Not necessarily on the bike, but on the video. Aerodynamics is not simple, not intuitive and you sure as hell cannot be analysed by a guy looking at some marketing pictures. That alone is very unprofessional. But the worst thing for me was that you constantly pointed stuff out like "this is good for aero" and "this is bad". There are more aspects to an aerodynamic concept than "low drag". And even for low drag not everything inducing drag or looking "bad" aerowise is in fact bad. You can only find that out by doing CFD or going in a wind tunnel - stuff they did and you obviously didnt. And for the "they didnt even animate the guy riding the bike in CFD". This triggered me - stuff like this is extremely time consuming (if even possible with a complex motion like this), this is a shot for marketing purposes and this is only one of (hopefully - as long as their claimes are true) thousands of individual simulation runs they did. So you can keep talking about what you think, but it means absolutely nothing as long as you dont have any data. At least if you talk aero. A guy named Kyleengineers does stuff like this on cars. With the difference that he worked in F1, NEVER talks definitive and even goes as far as recreating CFD runs for eg the Peugeot lmpH. As long as you dont do stuff like this, dont do it at all.

A lot of the performance gains could be from the dramatically narrower handlebars on the upper level variant. Manufacturers often claim performance gains for their new model, but neglect to tell you that it's mostly from the handlebars. Overall perhaps you are being a bit too harsh. I think it's a decent attempt at an aero bike (except for questionable manufacturing), especially the base model which doesn't have the funky handlebars. As for the water bottle, most people want to run standard water bottles and cages. Perhaps they should have chosen a popular cage and optimized the frame section for that a bit more by making the mounting area concave. Final point: I bet the CAD work wasn't actually done in the U.K.

I somehow managed to remove it (both sides) without damaging the frame, however it took me way too much time and effort. Long story short, I think your response/roast was too soft. 😉🤘

I wish Ribble would reply to this. Just hearing them say something about why they don't have spokes in their CFD analysis (marketing) would be worth it.

I don't expect then to reply

There’s another thing in the handlebars, the drops have a small shroud behind the hoods that integrates much more nicely into the hand/wrist than on a standard round-drop aero handlebar.

Very good video! Most peoples attention spans aren't long enough for these videos but this one was very interesting.

Wondering why you are not posting on Odysee. Love your videos. Great info.

But the pictures! Did you see the pictures! Not to mention the sharp white Ribble shirt on the “Expert”! Clearly that overcomes the limits of physics. 🤣

If you put two riders side by side with one on an optimised aero bike and one on a brick and they travel at a constant 22mph they arrive wherever they are going at exactly the same time. So, actually you can't make 70 seconds over 40k at any speed simply by being on an aero bike. The aero advantage might make it easier to go at that speed or go a bit faster for the same power output. For avoidance of doubt and to make the point again, whatever you're on that's going at 22mph is going at 22mph.

Thanks for another great video. Ventum is using graphene and carbon nanotubes in their frame resin. Can this offer any benefit or just another marketing gimmick?

I like shiny shit and this bike is reasonably priced. What should I pick instead for circa £4k budget?

Ribble is now owned by Wiggle. Wiggle is not cheap by any means so i avoid them. I have a dribble. On the chain stays on the bottom of the tube near the rear derailleur are two holes. They suck in water like you would not believe. The water pools down in the bottom bracket. I had to get a hole drilled in the bottom of the BB shell to be able to let the water out. That biek is now on the trainer and does nto go out at all.

Does anyone else think Ribble have got a bit too big for their boots. Guys you're just planet X with better marketing.

@@The86rick I've got their holdsworth super pro frameset which is actually a pardus super 3 and it's great. Pretty sure I only paid like £400 for it on sale.

This frame's downtube looks taken from a E-bike. Can that space be accessed for storage?

Mine arrives in November :) I actually came here to see if you had any review of the actual bike/brand build quality - the "void" and irregularities in the press images are interesting and surprising they used something like that, not sure if caused by frame defects or paint/wrap problems (my first thought was the void was a bubble but I can't be sure) Have you had a Ribble bike come through the workshop to investigate?

That handlebar made baby Jesus cry, and for the record I saw some VERY similar open mould frames years before we were graced with this thing. I do like the look of it, but I wouldn't give up my TCR for it.

Too tough. Really like Ribble’s effort in bringing some innovation (the bars) to the market and moving the public’s perception of the brand. Love the paint job too and would definitely be open to this bike if I were shopping.

What innovation are you talking about? Every innovation they did, it was already created by Trek, Scott and Specialised. Ribble is small firm that pretended to be big with crap overpriced bikes and confused builds on their website.

@@EduardSLVRU I was not aware that bars like these are available on the market today. Please post a link, I’d like to check them out.
