I just looked it up for us. These are not considered lightfast, more of a designer's gouache. The artist primarily scans and prints all of her work. I would say they are more like Winsor and Newton designers gouache in that regard. And the maker adds PW6 to most of the colors, which is fine. These are gorgeous paints similar to Winsor and Newton in how they paint and lightfastness. If you are a studio artist that puts paintings on walls and in galleries, I would look for a lightfast gouache. If you just paint, scan and print, this is great gouache for you. If you want to make the choice about whether to have PW6 (which is added for opacity), this is NOT the paint for you. If you UV protect, it works. Super creamy, luscious gouache. A little on the expensive side.

That's a bummer :( What are some lightfast gouache brands you'd recommend? All of my gouache are W&N and I didnt even know that!
@jessicameisner8487 Жыл бұрын
@@flatgrilledcheese8363 winsor and newton are designers gouache and some are lightfast, but you need to look at the pigments and how many stars rating on the side of the paint tube on the blue wool scale. Schmincke horadam and m graham are lightfast, but m graham uses a lot of honey, so they can mold unless you keep them in the fridge (if you store them in a gouache container for en plein air work. I put a couple drops clove oil in mine to keep them fresh. Some of holbein are lightfast, but they use a different system to rate lightfastness, not blue wool 1-8 scale.

@@flatgrilledcheese8363 Sarah Burns studio did an amazing video on lightfastness in brands. My favorite is Holbein and from er tests they look really lightfast. However, some colors will always stay longer than others
@fijaystudio Жыл бұрын
more traditional formulas are not lightfast. They never were. And I worry about the chemicals added to create lightfastness-partly because no medium that is water soluble can be truly lightfast.

So stunning!! You have such an amazing way with color. Initially I thought the blue is too muddy, but somehow you manage to complement it with the skin tone and turn it into an amazingly vibrant piece!!

This was the first thing I noticed about the photo!The muddy background blue with the bright blues of her dress and the briight skintones! I did go over some parts of the background with highlights so it's not too one dimensional

Well I watched this video because I want to learn more about gauche and this particular gouache. However as soon as you started painting your portrait I I kept feeling to hear your words because it was so captivated by how you paint. Amazing!!! Immediately subscribed because I can't wait to watch you paint more

Very nice painting! Colors are beautiful. I have the whole line of SUI Gouache and agree with everything you said in your review. Need to look at pigment makeup to gauge if these would be lightfast. Am looking forward to when they come out with new colors. I will be buying them as well.

Nice! I've actually been looking at those Sui gouaches for a few years now. But I had no idea on the quality and Amazon doesn't have many reviews on this particular brand. Now I can go buy them and not be all disappointed!

Question: Do you agree that you can easily mix all these shades yourself with primary colours and white from e.g. Holbein? The colours look beautiful, but it feels to me like you would get more variety, including these lovely colours, if you just went for a regular set and mixed them yourself. That way, if you get a larger white, you could stretch your paints a lot more. Or am I missing something here? 😮 Wonderful video as usual🥰
