I was a teen with no personal music taste nor much life experience when this album came out so I genuinely thought it was just okay and far behind channel orange until I randomly revisited it last year as an adult with a fully formed frontal lobe after going through relationship troubles... first album to ever make me continuously cry (both sad and happy tears) while listening from start to finish. Pink + white was always my fav song (still is) but since last year I've had a completely different understanding of it.Thank you Frank.

I haven’t even finished the video yet, but I just have to say wow dude. This is genuinely one of the best reactions I’ve ever watched. I don’t think I’ve ever seen someone understand this album so much on first listen. Music for me is always about emotions and tiny little bits of songs that just make you feel things. I think you broke that down perfectly. Obviously it helps that you’re a musician so you’re more likely to notice the smaller things, but you broke down every little detail to perfection. This is one of those reactions that make you feel like you’re listening to the album for the first time again. You did an incredible job. Thank you, because I haven’t really been able to feel that with this album yet, which sucks because it’s my favorite ever. Edit: oh my god your Godspeed reaction is incredible 😢😢😢
@mackrooney15 күн бұрын
i think you should give white ferrari a second closer listen. to me that song can barely be described in words, it’s just this deep feeling. it’s about a young love relationship coming to an end, and all the things you feel when an era ends with someone who you know has forever changed you (especially a person leaving childhood and crossing into adulthood.) the crazy crescendo of sounds toward the end of the song to me is like every memory and feeling of this first love all coming to a head at once, while you look back on your time with this person you loved, and look ahead at all the unknown life you’ll live with this new version of yourself, without them. it’s grieving that time, letting go of a part of yourself, it’s mourning the past and welcoming a new phase of life that you’re both terrified and excited about. and so much more. sorry to get on my soap box but that song changed me in ways that are hard to articulate, and i know im not the only one. maybe it still wont hit home quite so hard for you, but maybe looking at it through that sort of lens on a second listen will do something. :)

it gets better with every listen man, this is one of those albums that is so layered that you find something new every time. ive listened to it maybe ~150 times if i had to guess. even when i last listened to it a few days ago i was catching things. this album is incredible in ways that im not sure i, and probably a lot of people, could explain in words. and skyline to is not a filler track. i think the progression and the vocals/lyrics work in tandem to create something that can help to explain the beauty of the natural world, and sharing that beauty with someone. some adam and eve type shit

i had never listened to this album before this year, but one of my friends listened to the first half of it with me during a study hall class and told me all about his favorite songs. a couple weeks later, we had a senior in my school pass away and all i could do was go back and listen to “ivy” on repeat. “i ain’t a kid no more, we’ll never be those kids again” hits different knowing that one random day i woke up and the innocence of my childhood had vanished overnight without me even knowing. anyway, frank ocean rocks, and if my friend sees this (bc i told him to watch this video lol), you really helped me out by showing me this, buddy. :)

I used to have an awesome job and one of the aspects was product photography, so I could tuck myself in the all-white photo room, crank the aircon super cold, put headphones on and just listen to shit. I listened this album for the first time around then, got obsessed and listened to a podcast that went through and focused on each song each episode. The lore around the album is insane. The way he finessed his record label, the bandaid on the hand from the fistfight with Chris Brown, the placement of the beat switch on Nights in the middle of the song and also the album as a whole, the answer to the final interview question at the end of Futura Free - which is the last thing you hear - is actually the length of the track itself. Tbh, if Frank never releases another album I'll understand. We'll always have Blond.
