a live commentary hammer editor "game" "play" was actually very helpful as a new mapper, hope to see more of this.

I have a love/hate relationship with hammer, and no matter what, any videos related for this program relax me soo much, even tho I would've be going mad crazy after a few hours of doing some fancy stuff lol

this was very helpful, I knew working in powers of 2 was useful, but I had no idea about merging two faces at the corner like that!

Great video! I watched the whole thing. I was using displacements almost completely wrong. I finally have a good workflow going and I'm so happy. Biggest thing was that I had no idea that you could select two displacements at once to edit so I was using massive chunks that messed up my resolution. Thanks for this 😊

Thanks so much! This has massively improved my displacements. Do you still have the Portal 2 propscaler plugin? I've been looking everywhere.

Coal'd blood is a great example. I've had to go in and sew a few places in it's repair but otherwise the thing is pretty neat.

Sewing will work aslong as the vertexes are connected.

I know there's some people here in the comments kinda being rude about the tutorial being really long and non-specific in nature of what's shown but like Honestly I learn so much more by watching someone naturally work in the program than in a short video with barely any context. Watching the process in detail and especially being told WHY to do/not do a thing sticks in my memory a lot better. Wanting to make custom L4D2 maps so unfortunately I'm stuck with old Hammer (++ isn't compatible) but eyy I'm excited to apply what I've seen here. Feels like a lot of the even recent L4D2 Hammer tutorials I've seen barely gloss over displacements and really only show some janky ground cover, so this gives me a much better idea to work with. Feels like I could understand what I'm reading about in the Source Wiki better as well, with that in mind. Kudos on the tutorial man. 👍

That was exactly my intention with making this. I’ve learned so much more from watching friends map than anywhere else.

Just saw this comment and if you didn't know, the most recent update of hammer++ added experimental support for L4D2 in case you're still mapping for it!

Making everything from one solid sewed displacement isn't the best looking, it's better to add details by creating one face rocks from displacement and cover walls with that. Hard edges of combined rock walls make is look more realistic.

sewing is pain, its like using blender with a blindfold and my hands tied (i know what im talking about because i have 4k hours on blender and 500 hours on hammer)
