Great channel and videos bud, nice to see another FK8, as a type R owner who looked into the car before buying it, I thought you may be interested to know a few things about the design. The type R had lots of functional aerodynamics, the sides act as an air curtain to guide air round and up to the spoiler hence the arches and the shape of the rear wheel arch. Then there’s the flat bottom that directs quick airflow to the rear diffuser. The “Venturi” effect it gets squeezed as it passes under. The brakes have small clips near them to direct air to cool them. I learnt from reading online there are articles from the designer in Japan. Ive also seen these When it comes to the wing it’s there for braking and cornering stability at speed. It works. Previous owner did 177mph on the autobahn in Germany in mine. Honda also set the wheels into the arches to allow air to pass around easier. Thanks for reading, I'm aware I may get a lot of grief, but I appreciate great cars regardless of what they are.

Unfortunately a very golf bias video....the fk8 type R is regarded as one of the best hot hatches created. The gold R is a better daily but if you have any driving passion and you drive the type R you would understand.

I test drove the Civic Type R when it first came out. Myself I have always had 4 wheel drive, but was really impressed with the performance & handling and yes the shape/looks are like marmite, You love it or hate it. What also was on offer with Honda was 5 years free warranty, 5 years free servicing and 0% finance too.

Happy to see the back of these series in my opinion. Too much bias for your 'golf' every single video in the head to heads. Always the same tests which are usually pointless and just more golf r bias to 'win' (shock). Never any draggy stats, rolling 30-70 runs, lap times, and to top it off a useless sound test of your resonated deleted exhaust vs stock cars. I suspect the golf would've lost most of the videos otherwise so no surprise why the formula didn't change.

Yea the type R is a track monster blah blah blah.. but 99% of their owners have a £299 a month lease deal and will never go to a track. Well, I'm the owner of the Type R, and I mean the word "owner", cause its bought and paid for. Its been on track 3 or 4 times already, and I've held a Race National B license for almost 5 years, so I think I can get somewhere near the most out of it. Also, while the Civic loses a 0-60 against the golf, it wins in literally any other race, such as rolling from 30 onwards, which is far more likely to happen in real life lol.

Boot space and practicality aren't consideration for me, I like power, how it sounds and hopeful style. I get it some want track focused supermarket hotrods but most of them can't afford the type r so end up with a ST focus etc with a loud exhaust. So who buys the type r?

Both are great cars, but the comparisons here are completly wrong, except the exhaust one. How can you compare a 0-60 on a FWD with 4WD? I mean DSG, Launch control etc... that's why golf R are so good into pussy racing. They are completly different animals, one is made to go fast at the track, the other is made to be good everywhere but not so good into one thing... You should have done a track comparison, where the civic really shines too

The reason there are not many Type R’s about is no-one wants one while they look like that. When I was looking around for a hot hatch I discounted the Type R immediately due to its looks even though its more dynamically involving than the Golf R. I think what will bring you more interest and views are more performance oriented tests, like what carwow does. The downside …. you need a long private road or hire an airfield!

even with the manual trans, the golf R would still beat the type R do to all-wheel drive truthfully I was expecting the type r to win when he did not use lunch because of the hesitation of the golf R. the manual take out that hesitation and make it even quicker without lunch control. I want to test drive a type r when I was buying car honda lost my business when they said you can test drive it when you buy it. I will not buy any car without driving it first. I had test drove the Golf R and the Rs on the same day and went back and bought one the next day. I ended up with a Golf R. just because I was told by someone who works for ford not to go with the RS do to the engine issue with them and if I do autocross are the track I would be better off with the type R are golf R. I will not say the person name do to protect him from losing his job.
