Thank you so much for these wonderful videos. Basting a quilt is my ultimate nemesis and caused a lot of my quilts to never be finished. For the first time ever, my basting is going well. I'm calm and the fact I can sit while working on a small section has helped my back a lot. Again, thank you.

Thanks so much Sharon, you are so kind sharing your skills and knowledge. I followed your instructions from the atom up and this is the first time ever I had a perfectly flat and even quilt. You are a genius and I am indebted to you. I've just had a look at you site Sharon and I was pleased to see that you can join on a monthly subscription which is great. Best wishes

Marvellous tutorial, I’ve now used this method successfully a couple of times. Although I pressed well but didn’t use the starch.

Thanks for the idea about thread basting. I just finished about 2/3 of a large twin size quilt in less than 2 hours. I will finish the rest tomorro when my fingers feel better.

This looks so much faster than the safety pin method. I'll give it a try. Thank you!

Sharon...thanks so much for sharing this technique. I've embedded your video on my website and illustrated it using my own quilt (it's a small one...38x38). Absolutely love it over pin basting!! Needless to say, I'm an avid subscriber.

I hope you will re-record this using 2 different kinds of fabric. It would be way easier to understand the first time through. Still, it is a great basting method and I now use it on the queen size quilts I do, and got no puckers at all. Thank you!

I will definitely try this method!

What needles are best for thread basting?

is there a size for the DMC thread? is there any thing else you can use? having trouble finding DMC or tatting thread. i live in a small town and there is limited availability. Love the video. Can't wait to try it. I'm ready except for thread.

great information - basting is always my weak point. I have the embroidery floss but wondered if the odd skein of candlewicking 4 ply cotton thread that my mom found in her stash would work well? Any thoughts?

Wow. This looks interesting. I am going to try this. I do make queen and king quilts. Do I just get really long boards and slide the quilt to left and right to baste all of it? I have a cutting table, but it is not wide enough. Thanks so much for this video.

Wonderful tutorial thank you. Will the holes created by the needle disappear once it is washed. Cheers Kate

For larger quilts you want to use the appropriate legnth. For a king/queen size make sure that it is much wider. 8 - 10 inches is good but use what works best for you. If you are using a thicker batting make sure it is even wider. Play with it a bit and see what works best for you.

How do you get a longarm quilt to be square? Do you have a video for this? I roll up my backing only and place the middle and top layed on top of the backing and quilt it but not always square when I am done. I suspect my quilt top is not square. I shouls measure it!

Do you spray starch or wash the back in starch?

I still had to use tape to keep the back from slipping during the initial set up. Just at midline and at the seams on the back but otherwise the whole thing was slipping off of my table.

I do not even have a table that is longer than the width of my quilt. Is this board method only for small quilts?

just so you are aware the video is a bit fuzzy & hard to see; I am not sure if this is due to your video machine (camera or video recorder) or it may be the resolution of the video?

Perhaps, its just old and now obsolete technology.
