Very good advice, feeding schedules, temperatures, etc are only a guideline. You have to watch your bird and adjust accordingly. I was able to successfully hand rear a single tiel whose parents weren't good sitters watching your videos. Hand feeding is definitely an art and takes experience, time and patience. Thank you so much for your advice!

I have a pair of cockateils that consistently lay infertile eggs. Am I doing something wrong? My other 2 pairs are raising chicks
@Bird.Squawk
@Bird.Squawk 3 жыл бұрын
Not knowing the absolute complete story behind the pair you're talking about. The first thing that comes to mind with my experience if I have a hen that's laying eggs but they're infertile do I truly have a male with that hen. So that's the first place if you've had it DNAed and you know that the test come back as a male then there's something up with that male He's not happy. From McCall's to love birds over 30 years I found out that it's the male that we have to make happy He's not getting the food he likes he doesn't like where his cage is he doesn't like something. And then sometimes I'll take a male and just put it with another female and they start sometimes he just didn't like that male or that female so several avenues to go down here first Are you sure you have a male with that hin

What is the perfect brooder temp in an incubator. For a 4 day old cockatiel?
@Bird.Squawk
@Bird.Squawk 3 жыл бұрын
Not sure there's a perfect temp. But, I keep mine in that 95°F range. Watch your baby to see if this temp works for it. Does it seem cold, or hot. Too red and panting.... Too hot .. white and shaking... To cold. They're all going to be a little different. Thus my first comment. Not sure there's a perfect temp. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching our videos .. Kevin

Hey, so my cockatiels recently gave birth to some babies. The first 3 of them are taken care of perfectly by their parents and they are very healthy. The fourth and last baby though, is about 10-11 days old, yet looks about the same size as a 2 day old baby. Its parents aren't feeding it, so I have bought a formula in order to hand feed it. I haven't seen any changes for about 3-4 days now, the baby hasn't gained any gram at all. This morning it was also very difficult to get it to eat for some reason, and after a long time it ended up eating only a little bit. Anyways, is there anything I could do to make it grow, or should I just be patient and hope that overtime it will start growing? Any advice is appreciated, thanks. Sad update: my baby died a few hours ago. I opened the nest so I could feed it and found it dead in there... Rest in peace buddy 🕊🕊

@hi-pz5vm
@hi-pz5vm 2 жыл бұрын
@@Bird.Squawk thank you!! I have kept the baby with the rest of the flock in the nest since its parents haven't rejected it, so it's always kept warm. Good news is that it's responsive to its parents entering the nest and it tries to eat, but sadly, its parents can't quite pinpoint where the noise is coming from so they feed its siblings(but I saw its dad feeding it some time ago, only for a few seconds). I'll try to change the temperature and texture of the formula to get it to maybe eat better. Again thank you for the advice!

Informative video! Just a quick question, I got 2 baby african eye-ring lovebirds about 13 days and 16 days old. I feed the small one 2.5ml and the big one with 2.5-3 ml of feeding of formula since I see their crop bulging in that amount , is it enough food for them? I'm torn between feeding them too much and not feeding them enough. 😔
@Bird.Squawk
@Bird.Squawk 3 жыл бұрын
I did the same thing with my lovebirds. I would watch their crops. When their crops seemed full slightly stretched I would stop feeding. I would monitor each bird to see when they're close to being empty. Once I saw that the crop was not empty but almost empty I would again top them off with formula. Every bird is going to be a little bit different, so it's hard to put a number on how much to feed. Watching their crop and making sure that it doesn't go empty but once a day will yield the best results in my opinion. It's been my experience that wants the birds get pretty full they start to kind of back away from the syringe. Now that's not with every bird so again I think monitoring the crop is the ideal solution.

@ 3 or 4 day old seems to have something that feels gritty in his crop. I cleaned his crop out but I have not been able to get the gritty stuff out . Parents had other babies that died. This one looked like it may not make it so started feeding it today. It's being kept in my Janoel 12. Bowel or abdomen seems abnormal . Any suggestions? These parents have had successful babies in the past two clutches. I am not sure why they are loosing babies this time.

Hard to answer why they're losing baby's. But I have seem parents feed solid food to babys. I always make sure the parents have a lot of fresh clean water. It help soften the food making it easier for the parents to feed and the chicks to digest. I've also seem baby's eat the nest box bedding.

That's a great question. If the parents will sit on their eggs and hatch their eggs and then feed their chicks then I leave the chicks with the parents for approximately 2 weeks. At that point I pull the babies and do all of the finishing hand feeding and weaning myself. We find that it's been our experience that this results in the tamest babies. On the other hand, if I have parents that will not incubate their eggs or will not feed their chicks properly I pull those babies or eggs and incubate and hatch them myself from day one I will do the hand feeding. I have many videos showing this process.

First, sorry to hear about your baby. Its hard for me to tell you what's going on with your baby's. So many factors come into play, temp of the baby's, temp of the food, how often you're feeding. how fast your feeding. the list really goes on and on. My best advice is to watch the videos. there's a lot of information in them. Then think about every step that you're taking... is something different???? Its been my experience that your baby asperated while you were feeding it. And if you think that this hasn't happened to all of us at some point...... keep thinking. Watch the videos, slow your feeding down... take your time.. not too much food at once. hope maybe some of this helps. don't give up... Kevin
