In order to hang things like electric mountain bikes, one wheels, guns, fuel, and anything else...I've got to reinforce the ribs and entire bracket system for Scrappy's new wing. Follow along as I share how I'm doing it!
Order "I Support Our Troops" shirts on www.mikepatey.com. I'm closing the orders down in a week, so get them in!

Interesting…@2:51 you can see that what became the keyholes startout as having an *internal* keyed feature 🤔 I surmise the hole pattern is for attaching actuators of some kind and the keyed opening is an anti-torque detail… but why two rotary actuator at mid span? Hmmm

The 6 holes are for the linear actuators that will provide the variable wing chord. One of the reasons the wings structures are so beefy are they need to take the load of a radically large chord. This plane might fly as slow as 15 knots or so in slow flight config.. Amazing Mike and crew!

He said in a previous video that said system is powered by an axle (he called it torque tube) which makes sense. The axle is probably continuous or has some mechanical connection and prevents one side to deploy without the other. Either way it doesn't justify the pattern of the holes... Also if I were to design a variable chord mechanism I wouldn't have one big single central jack screw, but rather 2 or 3 smaller ones along the leading edge.

@@Ozarkprepper643 why would he want to adjust the dihedral angle of the wings? It only changes the stability of the aircraft, not performance. Especially when than involves applying more stress to already loaded components?
@almerindaromeira8352
@almerindaromeira8352 3 жыл бұрын
@@Ozarkprepper643 ok...i never heard of an airplane that does that. What is the model? And do you actually see a difference in performance (speeds, loads, etc) How do you adjust it? It must be hinged at the root, do you have a telescopic strut or?? Idk, it doesn't seem to be one of those things I would want to change mid flight. Messing with the characteristics of the plane without electronic stability is bold to say the least.

hey Mike have you ever thought of doing remote thermal imagining pods on the wings for search and rescue? Make it is you have a camera out under the wing that can rotate 360 degrees horizontally and move up and down so your co pilot could be watching the feed from those while you perform your search pattern? You should talk to Trent about doing camera setups as well.

Like Mike said, though-“If there’s something I’ve missed, I want to know about it.” I take that as nothing less than a dead serious statement from Mike’s heart and soul. There’s no better or more terrifying moment (for an engineer) than to realize JUST before it’s too late-that your design has a fatal flaw. The thought that your design-as good as it was-could have killed people is bad enough. Now imagine being the person who noticed that flaw, but said nothing. No thanks. Despite being damn good at what he does, Mike is still human and thus, capable of missing something. “If you see something, say something-“ these aren’t just a cute catchphrase to appease the higher-ups; those words could literally save Mike’s, and his family’s lives. All of that said, if I ever see Mike do/build something I find questionable, I’ll hit him up without hesitation. I’ll happily annoy the shit out of Mike, a thousand times, before I watch him auger in once.

The difference in finances. He's able to do work in a air-conditioned clean room. And much of my work is done on saw horses outside. stop me from building. And I do nice work. But the nicety of a CAM machine it certainly isn't there. Was just remarking to the neighbor 2 days ago on my entire fuselage I had less than 1 sqft of scrap aluminum. And if you added up all the little pieces less than 2 linear feet of tubing scrap. And so far after close to 20 yd of 52" S Glass, I doubt my little scraps Mount to one square yard. Neighbor came in for a beer after we stacked 134 bales of alfalfa on the trailer. And then restacking in the barn. He noticed one of my doors almost complete they are 1 1/2 inches wide with plexiglass that moves up and down like a normal vehicle. And front Wing Windows like the old vehicles used to have. It's also has a port window lower front I picked it up like was really heavy and handed it to him. Thinking it was heavy it almost popped in the face is it sprung up. Weight came in at just over 3 lb without the door handles or hinges. Sorry Here I Go Again, babbling. Perhaps I need my own channel. LOL

I think your funky spar holes have to do with flap actuators. It looks like you're going to have two electric linear actuators on each side. I'm guessing one actuator is for extending the flaps back (increasing the cord of the wing) and one is for changing the angle of the flaps. In a previous video you showed some large circular holes in the ribs. My guess is that those are for torque tubes that connect the flap mechanisms together so they cannot become unbalanced. I can't wait to see what they really are for! Btw, the tug is awesome! Thanks again!
@hansadler6716
@hansadler6716 3 жыл бұрын
@Mike Patey. Hmmm, after looking at the video again, you have a small slot on the top of your ribs, above and in front of the torque tube bushing in your ribs. The slot appears to be curved with the center of the curve at the center of the torque tube. This makes me think that the torque tube will be connected to something on top of the rear upper surface of the wing and the torque tube will be able to pull this thing down flat to the upper surface of the wing (for lower drag), or push it up above the upper surface of the wing to increase lift. I think it could be for some kind of aerodynamic device that will cause the air flow to stay attached to the upper surface of the wing to increase the lift by increasing the area of the upper surface that has laminar flow. That's awesome!
@hansadler6716
@hansadler6716 3 жыл бұрын
@Mike Patey. I wonder if the deployable thing on top of the wing is going to suck away the air behind the point of separated flow and pull the flow back down to the top of the wing. The deployable thing will use the low pressure air above the flaps to suck away the burbling air in the separated flow area. Hmmmm!

Dern Mike , I don't own a plane but I am surprisingly excited to see the wing progression . Your enthusiasm is contagious . I can't wait to fly vicariously through you . If we look at the placement it really fits in nicely with the main wing tanks. Also important is that they are only there in the main spar, so whatever it is, it can only be a mounting bracket/hole.
