When I heard that _"Oh, hi, hello."_ after reading the comment and thinking it was just some interpretation of the "eeh!" noises, but could totally hear it as those exact words as well, it cracked me up so hard. This animal is AMAZING. - Similar to Hank, I wonder why we've never really seen this before... I've had a lot of books about animals as a kid, but I guess I've just flipped past any pages with it, thinking it was just some ordinary porcupine, however seeing one alive and moving really helps to show just how unique this animal really is. Give this animal around 50,000 more years of evolution and it will start living in small grass huts, build and utilize tools, communicate through an advanced vocabulary of noises and vocal sounds and enjoy rhythmic music and dancing... That is, if humans don't wipe out the entire animal kingdom in that same amount of time.

Just a comment about being only able to move the pole at the speed of sound through the material of the pole. Are you using the pole to broadcast information using waves? Because then it would be limited by the speed of sound through the pole. Electricity would be at the speed that electricity can move through the medium. But physically moving the pole within three dimensional space would be limited by 1.) the amount of force you can exert on the pole and 2) The speed of light, because its a limit you cannot normally exceed (I'm not going into debates of ftl or wormholes etc just normal space) The proposed problem was quite vague. And did not specifically state how the Morse code was delivered through the pole.
@maxlorge22858 жыл бұрын
+Keduce22 they would be moving the pole, but when you move objects, they don't all move at the same time. The particles transfer the force throughout the object at the speed of sound through that object.

The reason no material's "speed of sound" can be faster than the speed of light is because the energy transfer between molecules is facilitated by photons. Ergo, no way around the speed of light. Except that's probably incorrect, because it's been a while since I watched Veritasium's video on exactly the thought experiment used in this episode. You should probably watch the video, not listen to me.
@DNDenise10 жыл бұрын
You are quite right. That explanation was independently verified before I read your comment by an Engineering student of my acquaintance. Photons are the force carriers for the electromagnetic force which is what determines inter-atomic bonds.

I know a lot about animals so I have heard of these porcupines before, but I wasn't prepared for Kemo. He's amazing. There's a huge difference between seeing a picture of an animal and actually being in its presence. A good example is the secretary bird (since birds are my specialty). In pictures, it looks like a pretty cool looking bird. In person, your state of mind is more like "OH MY GOD A VELOCIRAPTOR HEAD FOR THE HILLS"
