Ugh, my ex-husband and I were deep in the Amway cult in the 90's when my Grandpa died. I got the news when we were on the way to a meeting with our upline Diamond, who we were conditioned to revere as almost godlike. I was a mess, and couldn't go into the meeting, and my ex refused to take me to my parents' house (because he didn't want to be late to the meeting) so I sat in the car crying in the driveway of the house. Later, after the meeting was over and most people had left, I went into the house to use the bathroom. Said godlike Diamond told me "We had a good meeting tonight, it's unfortunate you weren't here for it." Not "Is there anything we can do for you?" Not "I'm sorry for your loss." Not even any "Thoughts and Prayers" Just shame for missing the meeting. Anyone who says these aren't cults are fooling themselves.

The first story was giving me some really strong flashbacks to being an LDS missionary and having a whiteboard where we'd write down goals for how many people we wanted to meet, Book of Mormons we'd give out, how many lessons we wanted to teach, how many people would come to church with us, and how many we'd eventually baptize each week/month. It never sat right with me to reduce these people we were meeting down to numbers, and seeing MLMers using similar goal-setting methods that reduce people to numbers is so icky.

I wouldn’t laugh at this woman for not meeting her targets. I’d sit her down and tell her: I have worked in fast food, and then retail, for 17 years. I’m used to hourly, daily, weekly, monthly targets. I’m also used to analysing why we didn’t meet those targets, what changes we can make to try and increase sales. But the truth is that retail was dying before the pandemic and it’s limping on badly now, not helped by a bunch of supply issues (Brexit import/export rules, lockdowns in source countries, the Suez Canal block - yes it’s still having an effect, the war in Ukraine, source companies going bust and looking for new suppliers) and she is absolutely right to be so proud that she got so close to her targets with her sheer determination. I just wish she could use this drive and efficiency for her own business, and not an MLM
@ljanes26552 жыл бұрын
All of this! I worked in retail for about 15 years, ending in early 2019 when the last store I worked at went bankrupt. It became harder and harder, with corporate expecting more to get done while cutting labor hours. I’m very glad I got out before the pandemic because even though there were always awful customers it seemed like it got a lot worse when service industry workers were stuck trying to enforce public health orders.

MLMs have you in a constant state of doing motions but it's on a stationary bike. You are not going anywhere and there are so many better ways to make money, please do not crawl into the comfort of a pre-existing brand, if you do you might as well just get a job with a brand that actually pays. MLMS make me sick for preying on mothers.... This has happened to me many occasions!!!!! Then to have the essential oil fertility little deal.... UHM. NO MAAM!!!! 🤢😡🤦🏼♀️🤦🏼♀️🤦🏼♀️🤦🏼♀️🤦🏼♀️🤦🏼♀️ Thank you for what you do Hannah!!!!! Much Love!!!!❤❤❤❤

Ok the girl putting the oil on her hair (the one with “101 uses”) then puts it in a bun, and immediately claps a hat on. This hairstyle for me is the classic “i havent had time to wash or style my hair so im temprarily covering it with a bun and hat”. If the oil does such great things for your hair, why do you have to cover it up? Sometimes i do use oil, but always as a finishing touch to tame frizz on a finished hairstyle. If i have to do a bun and hat, it means my hair is already too oily!

Yep you got that right in every single MLM I was in we always had one of our coaches or trainers telling us that we need to act like there are only a few spots available because then people are more interested because they feel like they are about to miss out on something and it's not just that one alone it's multiple mlms they would write up posts for us to copy and paste that say something like "hey girls I'm looking for two to three people who are driven and want to succeed" they would also want us to join different groups so because I am a mother they wanted me to join a bunch of mom groups so that I could pitch to these moms or if you're into gardening they want you to join those groups and just put out a status that hey "thank you for accepting me to the group my name is blah blah blah and this is what I do for a living blah blah blah" it was really scummy some of the things we were to say just like how every 20th of the month we were told to go and get those moms because they got their child tax today and we need to sell these "opportunities" it's so sad that these companies pray on people with fomo because it is an actual thing that a lot of people suffer with and they become so vulnerable to it that they will be willing to pay $250 for a join opportunity

Honestly she seems like an insanely hard worker. It genuinely makes me sad to see this. I even said to my husband “can you imagine what she could do if she worked this hard at her own business? Or hell even a real job!” Haha we listen while we get our nightly chores done around the house :) This is really sad though because she does seem to care and to work hard but it’s not gonna pay off at all. This is just sad ! I hope something changes for her. I really wish her luck in life (just not in the mlm) Edit - oh my god do they not know how ridiculous they look when they say “I only accept ‘blank’ ammount of girls” We all know it’s not true !! 🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️

That's how I got into YL - I was going through infertility and looking to reduce the toxic load in my house (as suggested by my doctor) and that's how they got me in - with the cleaning products....interestingly I got told to buy a starter bundle with the 11 oils rather than the cleaning products alone (because at the time they didn't have a cleaning bundle like they do now!) and I ended up doing the biz for 2 years . Glad I'm out!

@m_n_a_b9 ай бұрын
I agree. My husband and I have tried for 10 years. And Young Living promotes a bottle of something called Progessence Plus that reps tout as promoting pregnancy by supporting your hormones. Any time a woman got pregnant while using it, she would post a photo of the oil and state it was all due to that "powerful little bottle". Meanwhile, most of these women did not have fertility issues. I tried it for several months and it did nothing for me. So.... 🤦♀️🤷♀️

I know so many people that struggle with infertility, and the YL one is just heart breaking to me. They would all give anything to be able to be pregnant and to find that magic “thing” that will allow them to become pregnant without struggling. Tips given by anyone not a medical professional just makes a lot of them feel like it’s their fault when it absolutely isn’t.

Love the kitty cameo. The infertility oil giveaway really upsets me. How dare they pray on women who are at a very hard and emotional point in their life! No oil is ever going to help you get pregnant. (I'm a little overly sensitive to people using infertility as a sales pitch)
@bluewillow912 жыл бұрын
Essential oils DID help me get pregnant. When it was the ONLY difference I made in my regime and life. Plants have tons of therapeutic properties. How dare you say it didn’t help my infertility and being unsupportive of other women’s fertility/infertility journey. I personally do not use it as a sales pitch because it is a sensitive subject but I do share with family, friends, etc. and that’s just conversation 🤍

It’s for sure hard to see people spend so much energy in mlms, especially working overtime etc. not only could they be paid for working extra hours, but imagine if they had a job that ended at 5pm and then they could go out volunteering some evenings / really use their time to make a difference in their community. It’s often good people, that get scammed. I hope one day these people will see that their time is so valuable, not just to them personally but potentially to others too.

Also, I’d just like to point out the eyelids (especially in babies and kids) are one of the thinnest areas of skin on the body AND that when you spill wax and it hardens you actually increase your risk of burns bc it seals in the heat. When water hits you, it undergoes evaporative cooling which (even though burns are severe) decreases the skin temp as it evaporates away. That does not happen with wax bc it makes a water tight seal and keeping it on the skin to take a photo could have potentially worsened outcomes for that little girl.
@katieanderson612 жыл бұрын

I make candles and wax tarts as part of our business and Scentsy wax is a paraffin wax mixture which has a melt point of anywhere from 120-165 degrees which is one of the highest melt points for wax other than beeswax which has just a bit higher melt point. Soy wax which is what we use for both our candles and tarts have a melt point of around 113 degrees to a high side of around 127 degrees. Which is why soy tarts will actually last longer than paraffin. That scentsy woman saying that their tarts are safer is off her rocker.
