Dayna is a legendary interviewer. Asked difficult questions. Pressed on confusing or conflicting responses. Didn’t overtly take any of the responses personally, even when challenged by Hans. Most importantly, Dayna did exactly what a reporter is supposed to do, and that’s provide the platform for the interviewee to confidently give their thoughts. Hans actually talked about the toll the rumors and accusations had on his day to day life in a way that felt genuine and kind of tragic. To me, Hans is a bit of a condescending jerk that is pretty unlikable, but the price he has paid for the sin of beating Magnus OTB while having a history of cheating online was way too high. Regardless of whether you agree or disagree with what Hans said, it was a 10/10 interview.

Imagine if politicians were like this. I know he may come off as rude or unprofessional to some people, but really it's hard for people to understand what this guy went through at such a young age too. It's actually impossible to imagine or put yourself in his shoes unless you experience something similar yourself. He not only had opportunities taken away from him, he became a meme and the butt of a joke over something that wasn't even true and never proven. Like it's one thing if Logan Paul or Sneako get publicly humiliated / canceled for something awful they actually said or did. But in this case we're talking about a young innocent talented person who wasn't actually bothering anyone or doing anything wrong. Hans is right. I asked in a Hikaru video comments if there was ever any proven cheating by hans besides what he admitted to when younger, or were they unfounded accusations. I didn't know much about the drama so i was genuinely curious. I was met with 3 responses: - "No there was no proven cheating " - "Learn more about chess." - "Once a cheater, always a cheater." So clearly there was no proven cheating besides the admitted cheating. I then researched for myself and feel even more confident now that somehow Hans became the target of the best players in the world with no proof. how is this different from the Kramnik stuff? Good for hans for letting the chess speak for itself. And hats off to Danya for standing by his statement.
@EnriqueNuesch4 ай бұрын
Besides the ones online many years ago, as a child, admited by Hans, there is nothing more. All the "beads" stupidity is just a bad joke made by troll. Nothing ever happened OTB. To say "there is no proof" is already an overstatement, because even the suspicion of cheating is just small talk made and cultivaded by subpar intelects.
@blinkanddie33974 ай бұрын
I also tend to agree with the "once a cheater always a cheater" statement. Of course it's not foolproof, but it makes me very nervous to trust Hans. I'd be happy to be wrong and I hope that we can somehow know with certainty at some point in the future
@justinrussell78594 ай бұрын
@@blinkanddie3397 for sure it could come out tomorrow that he has cheated consistently for years and i would say, "ok I guess Magnus was right." But there is currently no proof besides what he admitted to, and let's be honest, we've all done incredibly stupid things when we were younger that we regret. Until it is proven that he has cheated outside of the times he's admitted, I'll stick with innocent until proven guilty. I do think the vigor with which many top players have attempted to crush him with no proof while slamming Kramnik for doing the same is the definition of hypocrisy.
@Damola-w2f4 ай бұрын
@blinkanddie3397 From that perspective, then I can say, once a lair, always a lair. I'm pretty sure we've all lied when we were kids so it doesn't make sense to judge someone's whole life based on something they did before they were fully matured

The number of his games with 100% accuracy outnumber Fischer, Kasparov, and Magnus combined, who have all played many more games than he has. What are the odds of that do you think? I am still a Hans fan. I wish he'd have been able to keep the cheating under the radar better. I think it'd have been interesting to have a Carlsen rival in strength. I don't think ppl ought to cheat any more than the next person. I just think the scenario of an effective 2900 would have been interesting as a clash with Magnus.
