The Executioner past his prime but still on top form! When Bernard Hopkins lost a decision to Joe Calzaghe many fans and experts wrote him off but he proved all of the doubters wrong when in his next fight he absolutely schooled the undefeated 34-0 Kelly Pavlik in one of his finest performances. Hopkins' defense and accuracy were exceptional on this night and Pavlik simply stood no chance. What he was able to do at 43 years old in this fight was nothing short of incredible. Guys like Hopkins and Foreman remind that age isn’t a death sentence. I’m 32 and sometimes think I’m “older” (lol) but watching Hopkins and Foreman fight into their 40’s is so motivational for me.
@uncleiron644 ай бұрын
It was Bernard's discipline that played a significant role, even at his old age. His clean diet, maintained even outside of training camp, was crucial. He never took a drink or ate anything remotely unhealthy. But Foreman had many genetic gifts, including his strong chin, immense power, and large size.

God I miss HBO boxing. This crew really understood Hopkins, and his quality - the calls of his fights were so appreciative of his skills and his efforts. This is a great edit, thank you for the work.

You finally released it! Many call his fight against Trinidad his greatest performance when imo this is his best. Trinidad was coming up a bunch of weight classes but here in this fight Bernard at a even older age and against a arguably bigger opponent completely shut out his opponent

Bernard showed just how integral to the game that true skill and effort are. This is the kind of shit that shows how capable we can be if we keep our mind and bodies in shape as we age.
@drinfernodds4 ай бұрын
Hopkins showed how far skill can take you if you take care of your body and do everything to maintain it. He never drank, smoked, ate fast food, wouldn't even drink seltzer because he worried it would lead to him getting hooked on soda. He'd rest up for a week and get back to training when other fighters would be partying for a whole month. Hopkins mastered self care and preservation.

I saw this fight as a kid and only knew Hopkins through the Knockout Kings games. I felt like the only one besides B-Hop who thought he'd beat Pavlik. My dad knew Hopkins was great, but he thought Pavlik would kill him given Hopkins was 43. He was surprised at how great Hopkins looked at that age.

I dont think Ive ever seen someone more completely defeated than Pavlik was in this fight; and when Hop comes up at the end, and does the 'you did a good job' bit? I think it broke Kelly. He only fought 3 more 12s in his career, and sort of just faded away. This fight by Hopkins is one of the most complete bouts anyone has ever fought. He annihilated him.

Unfortunately the general media only started focusing on how great a champ Hopkins was after he defeated Felix Trinidad back on 2001. The problem with that was Bernard was already 35 years old, he had other more impressive performances under his belt by then, such as the the first fight with the hard hitting Antwun Echols & the then undefeated challenger Glen Johnson. kzbin.info/www/bejne/rHjYcqOjmb-sbrc
