It was yummy, guys! Thanks as always for dropping in, and I hope you had a great holiday! Preferably without making each other bleed. LOL

I have a great music memory of me participating in a state band proudly playing this song. It gave me great pride and when you are in the orchestra playing this it is magnificent!! John I love the dish. That looked like a great steak but I'm more interested in the smoked sausage than anything else. I bet the "hordervies" were so good! haha. Hugs!

I missed out on band because pianos are really awkward to carry while you march. LOL But I was deeply into music then, and our music department at school, and though I was busy playing with the Charleston Symphony, I was always a bit envious of those in the band. My Dad's background was a big influence on me, and this piece even today sends chills up my spine. I can imagine being in the band playing it. The kielbasa is totally addictive. I grilled up half a pound of it, and ate all of it *AND* the steak! LOL

How neat that you got to play with the Charleston Symphony!! Wowowow. What did you play?

You had an awesome meal there! Keeping it simple can be good, too!

It was some fine eating, Sven, and yes, sometimes simplicity can be really refreshing. Thanks for stopping in! Glad to see you back with us again.

John Phillip Sousa was a great composer, We played all his songs in HS marching band. Good looking meal too. Dad use marinate ribeyes in Italian dressing all the time, It works well on chicken & pork chops too...
@Anonymoose8 жыл бұрын
His compositions are timeless, and no less classics than the works of Beethoven and Tchaikovsky. The piccolo solo in this one still makes every hair on my body stand on end. Funny that I've used Italian dressing with chicken, turkey, and pork, but I don't remember ever using it on beef. Weird, eh? Next time I'll do it overnight. After two hours, the effect was great, but subtle.

And mine. Listening to it last night for the first time in a while, when they started the piccolo solo, I got chills, just like always.

Fashionably late but well worth it! Haven't had the Italian dressing on a slab of meat in forever. On the to do list, as of now. Really nice looking plate/s of grub!

Thankee sir! I've used Italian on poultry before, but I don't remember ever doing it on beef. I *LIKE* it, and next time I'll let it go overnight. The effect after two hours was subtle, and I can see being a lot more aggressive with it.

beautiful plating. ( i have tried marinating salmon in italian dressing before grilling..eeps it juicy..but never thought of doing it to steak..will have to try it!)

Thankee kindly, sis! I've used it with poultry, and with salmon, but I don't remember ever trying it with beef. It was great! A little subtle though, after two hours. Next time, I'll try it overnight.

It's about as easy as it gets, Larry. Any decent Italian salad dressing, a Ziplock, and that's it. After this experiment, I'll do it overnight the next time. The two hours gave it subtle effect, but it would be even better if it soaked up a little more of it.

Thanks John I'll give it a try myself. Happy Independence Celebration Day.

Evening! Very nice tribute! I would have guessed u had a musical family! ;) Yum, at it still I see w/the grill & making us hungry. Does any of your neighbors ever just show up with a empty plate?! Anyhow hope your well, haven't been on here in ages... still busy with battles in court... it will be Independence Day for me hopefully next year sometime. (yep dates til then in court) I'm surprised u don't have more videos out then u do since I was here last. Anyways, gotta run I'm hungry now...

You are still alive? Actually, my Dad and I were very musical, the rest of the family, not so much. They just listened. I haven't had any neighbors actually show up with empty plates, but I've had a few mention that they wanted to. I do kinda stink up the whole neighborhood sometimes. LOL Sounds like these legal battles are neverending. You've been battling for years now! I hope for your sake that they end soon.

Real grill marks! Just like on a plane. Oh, I eat kielbasa or polish sausage just like that except I use Honeycup Honey mustard as a dip. Try it if you can find it.
@Anonymoose8 жыл бұрын
The grill marks on a plane are probably decals. LOL I find kielbasa and polish sausage completely addictive. I love the stuff! That was a half pound I grilled up, and I shamelessly devoured all of it. I've used honey mustard with it before, and it's great, but I don't think I've seen Honeycup. I'll have to look for it.
@Perroquet518 жыл бұрын
Well, I meant like meat served on a plane. Not on the plane, itself lol. Honeycup is totally different than any other honey mustard. PM me your address, if you like, and I'll send you a bottle. I finally found it here at Wal-Mart.
@Anonymoose8 жыл бұрын
I was talking about the meat. I've had airplane food. LOL You've really got me intrigued. If Walmart has it, then *maybe* my local one has it. I'm forced to go there soon, to get a replacement for my 40 year old toaster oven (R.I.P.), so while I'm there I'll look. I'll give you a holler one way or the other. And thanks for offering!

Can you do a video on your grill? Does it have lava rocks? What do the lava rocks do?
@Anonymoose8 жыл бұрын
I did a look inside it about a year and a half ago, when I put a new burner in it. That video is here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/bl63h5SLd5iXhcU And yes, it has a layer of lava rock above the burner. It absorbs and spreads the heat from the burner, evening it out and regulating it, and behaving much like an even layer of charcoal in the way it transmits the heat. I think it improves the grill's performance dramatically. Thanks for dropping in!

Great 4th of July cook. I'm new on KZbin and the BBQ grilling and smoking thing. Retired a year ago so this is just something fun for me to do. I like Stars & Stripes. I was in the HS band many moons ago and use to play it all the time. Loved the tribute to your dad and his love for JPS. Funny, As a senior in HS, I received an award and it was called the John Phillip Sousa award. Anyway, The steak sweet potato looked great. I have subbed your channel. Stop by my channel and check it out. I'm just getting started and would appreciate your support. Cheers-Phil
@Anonymoose7 жыл бұрын
Thanks for stopping in, and for the sub! I retired several years ago myself, and suddenly found I actually had time to get serious with grilling and smoking. There's a great community of grillers and pitmasters on YT, and it's a blast hanging out with them. I've learned a ton from them. Smoking borders on being an artform, but once you learn your grill and get the hang of it, it's amazingly hassle free, and the rewards are some of the best BBQ you'll ever have, that *you* cooked yourself. My Dad played first trumpet in the Navy band, and he nearly worshipped Sousa. Stars and stripes was his lifelong favorite, and I never tire of it. He tried to get me into trumpet, but I went in a different direction and got into piano. I think he eventually forgave me when I played with our local symphony in high school. LOL
@progers50197 жыл бұрын
That's great. To play first trumpet in the Navy Band is quite an accomplishment. I always loved to see a military band in our parades or any where else because I knew how good they really are. Since Shaw AFB is located just outside of Sumter, we had the opportunity to go sit beside our instrument peer and play. I'll never forget it. So professional. This was back in 1967-68. Anyway, in this BBQ doings, I've just finished some online tutorial on editing video. Needless to say had to bring some early ones back that were pretty raw and edit them. Hurts your feelings a little when you see the analysis chart they only watched for 3 min. lol Oh well, it's lots of fun, and I do love to watch others in their videos. There are some real characters out there. I love humor and it takes them all to round out too much seriousness. Ok. My videos were too long, now my comment is too long. Tks again
