Here's a review of the Hardy basic as well as the yellow and black slightly better work gloves from Harbor Freight the yellow and black ones are much better but still are cheap disposable work gloves.

Cool video. The gray and blue ones you like look like White Mules.

I dislike that style of glove so much that I just won't use them at all. HF Hardy gloves are Wells Lamont style and over $5 but are much better in fit and function. I bought genuine Wells Lamont deerskins for $20 recently and I won't use anything else now. If you cannot tell where your fingers are I think they are dangerous which is what I find using the "traditional" style.

That's great for light work where you need more dexterity, but I've found those gloves aren't really all that much more durable (less durable per dollar) so it is a very expensive glove to use for rough work where you just need to protect your hands a bit more than anything else. They're also a false economy if it's really dirty (dry dirt since these aren't waterproof) and there is a fair chance you will just throw them away instead of reusing.

@@stinkycheese804 I can see what you are saying. I always relied on my calloused hands when younger which worked great for most things. Now a skin condition from allergies peels the skin to the point I barely have fingerprints, let alone callouses. Maybe wearing my deerskins inside these other traditional style might make sense. I just find I rarely do anything that doesn't require a certain amount of dexterity, short of removing wild roses, briars, and privet hedge. There you need gauntlets!

I don't fool around with cheap gloves. Not worth it. I have monster size hands and most XL's don't fit . HF mechanic gloves are now available in double X so I use those a lot but for rugged leather work gloves I go with the better brands. Tractor Supply usually has a good selection. Thanks for the video.

I have the orange and black leather ones. I don't like them. If my hands sweat while working, the black dye rubs off and stains my hands.

I have a pair of those, got them free from a store visit back when they had coupons for them. I like them, for being thin for higher dexterity but worth almost nothing so I feel no loss at all if I throw them away, and that is how they should be viewed, as disposable gloves. Black dye rubbing off, yeah they didn't need to be dyed and yet, it is the least of my concerns.

Catus what about your recommendation of a higher quality leather work glove? Can you do a video on comparing more expensive leather work gloves?

There's really far too many to choose from and it depends largely on the budget and specific tasks, some needing more warmth, some more water resistance, some more heat resistance, some more abrasion resistance, some more dexterity, etc. Generally speaking if you have no special need, high quality leather work gloves are a waste of money. Using premium leather raises cost without raising durability much, as long as you avoid the lowest end junk (like at Harbor Freight, same story different day).

my gloves no matter how cheap or expensive turn into gluey semi hard papier-mâché things.

Consider using waterproof gloves if you're going to get them wet. On the other hand, do not store them in an extremely low humidity area either since they are leather. Otherwise I find these kinds of work gloves get far better with use, softening up in the bend areas of your hand, getting more fluffy, etc. I'd always reach for a broken in pair before a new pair. If you wash them, do not just use straight detergent then done. I suggest using a final wash water of a shampoo with conditioner built in, hot water, then a cold rinse. Hang dry so they don't mildew.
