Well, I had my Dyna Low Rider for 6 years & 1 month, until a deer jumped out in front of me on 5/24/24. The Low Rider has been totaled, making me very sad to lose such a great bike. I used the HF jack mod I showed in this video many times over these years, and it always worked reliably and solid as a rock. The jack itself is actually 9 years old now, and I also use it for my Street Glide. Best $129 I've spent on bike tools!

Like I always say, wear white socks in your sandals when you work around heavy stuff! That way you can easily see where the blood is coming from if the jack fails. 🤣

Ha ha! Funny you mentioned this, because last winter I went out to the garage for something "real quick" and ended up slamming my toe into the flipping HF jack!! My toe turned all kinds of purty colors! A guy at work gave me a talking to about always wearing safety shoes when working, so I am extra careful about that now.

Great job! Can you do video showing how to secure the bike on the lift using straps? I know it sounds basic, but sometimes, seeing is better than reading or hearing about a skill. Also, once the bike is secured, can you show it being moved? Thanks.

I didnt mod mine for my late model dyna and it works fine... yes it sits on the rear motor mount a little but it won't cause any harm, it's mostly sitting on the rails

Just did this mod and found it works great. On the Dyna Switchback (FLD), I had to use 1" spacers on the left arm similar to how you did, but that is enough to clear so that the bike is lifted by the frame rails. Things just barely fit - width is within a half inch of minimum, and height is even tighter than that, but it does work. At first, I had the bolts tightened down too much and didn't allow movement between the moved parts. I loosened things up a bit and works great. Thank you for posting this - I really appreciate it.

Thanks for this video. I have a similar bike/jack and want to do the same mods. Why did you change the bolt directions and does the kick stand just rest on the jack?
@bluesriderDF
@bluesriderDF 6 жыл бұрын
John Raskovsky - I changed both directions because of interference. You want to jack pads to be wide enough so one of them is just on the outside of the kick stand and the other clears the bottom of the transmission. It's pretty tight, but doable.

@bluesriderDF 6 жыл бұрын
Gotcha. On the Dyna, the engine & trans hang a bit lower than the frame rails, so the jack needs to be wide enough to clear them. Otherwise you'd be lifting the bike by the engine or trans instead of the frame.
@jfkansas5508
@jfkansas5508 5 жыл бұрын
@@bluesriderDF It's actually not the engine and trans exactly. Since the engine and trans sit lower they have welded some metal plates on the frame around where the eng/trans sits lower. This prevents someone from lifting the bike with the engine, however it does also block the stock jacks like these. If those metal plates weren't there you could use a stock jack with some spacers on the pads and everything would be fine. So to lift a dyna with the jacks like these the pads have to be widened to go around those metal guard plates on the frame.

@@bluesriderDF Im going to take the jack remod a step further.. Where the skids are moved to outside of lift arms, the bolts must be reasonable tight. This causes much friction/wear. Im going to install very thin thrust bearings, between each place that currently has a washer. This will add fluid movement, allowing a tightened fastener.

The reviews I’ve seen on them have been pretty good I ordered a set I’m not gonna murder a jack with out trying a simple idea first, I believe in working smarter not harder the little ridge protruding from the frame isn’t there to protect the oil tank anyway it’s a frame stiffener so the torque from the engine doesn’t twist the frame
