Just going to throw this out there, Samurai Jack Seemed to find a good middle ground, for pg-pg13 machine violence. You make the robots look like people, and you make the wires and stuff look like (and act like) organs. So Jack would cut a bot open and oil would spew ever were. He would wind up covered in it, and it looks even cooler than if he was covered in blood, because the black sludge of oil is more artistic and interesting then crimson water. Or he would cut open a bot in a way that shows its insides, so you would see that they look kinda like organs, but it blows up before the parents have time to think too much about it. Still not as Cool as the violence from Kill Bill, Django, or Doom, but it's not bland, and its more for ever one. As not all people can stomach to much of that, like you mom, or kid sister (who shouldn't be watching anyway).

If you want a game where you can gun down scores of robots, I recommend "Binary Domain". It has a dumb B-movie plot, but the ways you can defeat the robots, including shooting off their limbs and heads, resulting in them dropping their guns, continuing to crawl at you, or causing them to shoot their own friends, has a unique sort of satisfaction.

karry299 and what do you mean by no enemy variety? if you mean you only fight Orks or Chaos, then you'd be correct, but otherwise there is a HUGE variety. ORKS HAVE: Gretchins (the tiny ones you can execute without stun-locking) Choppa Boyz Shoota Boyz (sometimes with crude shields) Nob Leaders (the massive ones with huge maces) Tankbustas (with Rokkit Launchas) Flash Gitz (the huge ones with Kustim Shootaz) Mad Doks (the ones who can teleport) Bomb Squigs (the kamikaze pig things) CHAOS HAVE: Imperial Traitors Chaos Space Marines Aspiring Champions (who wield Power Mauls and have massive energy shields) Sorcerors (who can open Warp gates and fire bolts of Warp energy at you) Bloodletter Daemons That's quite a variety of enemies already, don't ya think? Mind you, the generic dialogue can get a bit tiresome, and I agree with you about the artwork. It seems like they made the rest of the environments fairly boring just so the blue armour of the Smurfmarines could stand out.

On the subject of fighting synthetics vs. fighting organics, either can be incredibly fun or incredibly boring to fight. Take a game like battlefield: enemies give no sense of being damaged, they just flinch a little and eventually fall over. Now take a game like Mass Effect 3: You can fire rockets at geth troopers and watch bits of polymer and mechanical components get blown over 12 square meters while on fucking *!!fire!!*.

Damn it Yhatzee. you should at least try spacemarine. Its third person, with no cover shooting, features a chainsaw sword, the voice work of mark strong, and instead of health packs, the game forces you to get in there, and literally murder enemies with said chain saw sword(or plasma sword, or power ax, or god hammer or whatever) to gain back a slight monicrum of health. Its unforgiving, well acted, kinda predictable, but in the end i find it satisfying to murder hordes of space orcs, with a chain saw sword, and a "laze" cannon. And it was one of the last great games THQ made before their doors closed, and that in and of its self i would think is enough reason to give it some notice. It also features some pretty fun multiplayer, which is hard for me to say that because i love shooter multiplayer about as much as i love shoving rusty nails up my cock hole.
@1337ijs11 жыл бұрын
Space Marine was a pretty fun time, but it suffered from the horrible fatal flaw that made the midgame of Prototype a similar nightmare: You don't turn invincible while you're locked in multi-second animations and QTEs. Therefore, enemies can walk up and wail on you in the middle of an execution move (or, more commonly in my case, right before the animation as a whole ends, but after I'd already regained my health), thereby having you end the execution with barely more health than you started it with. This forces you, instead of wading into a fight and killing everyone you can in slow-motion executions like the superhuman demigod of murder your supposed to be, to desperately try and separate individual enemies from massive hordes so you have the slight chance to safely regenerate your health meter. Only that's really difficult. Cause you're trying to get one enemy from a massive horde on its own so you can take several seconds to stand utterly defenseless while you hack into a orc's gut and kick its face clean off. Don't get me wrong, it was really fun, but it failed to properly build itself so that frustration would not get in the way of that fun. It also didn't help that all the enemies with giant explosive super-guns were the epitome of the term "bullet-sponges."
@JerkyMurky11 жыл бұрын
They where indeed bullet sponges, especially when you start fighting chaos marines,(in a way it suffers from the same problem as DMC games, in that the guns are utter crap half way into the game, and the only meaningful way to murder somone is with your fisties) I however felt that the fact that i could be hit; and killed, in a QTE execution when im trying to get my health back, added to the difficulty of the game. I saw it not as a design flaw, and more as a difficulty multiplier. But i can understand where most people would be frustrated at that. and in the end perhaps it should have been something saved for the higher difficulty settings... but yeah i thought it was a great game, one of those sleeper hits that not everyone but the core fans of the universe tended to play. them and their friends, who had it suggested to them by people like me.
@1337ijs11 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure DMC is a true proper comparison to Space Marine in terms of gunplay; in Space Marine, for the most part, you're expected to use both melee and ranged weapons based on what you have and who you're fighting. I've always felt that DMC had guns more for the factor of coolness and so people who were utter masters at the game could keep combos going across entire rooms with gunfire. Space Marine's guns are clearly built to be used for sole purpose killing enemies from a distance, whereas DMC guns are more meant for utilitarian purposes, breaking up monotony and providing ways to keep a style streak going until you can get into sword range. You can easily thin down a pack of orcs with the right guns in Space Marine, but trying to kill literally anything with just guns in any DMC game on anything other than easy is an exercise in futility. Space Marine is more focused on survival/killing everything in front of you however you can, and DMC is built around pulling off the craziest series of attacks possible so you can afford upgrades, and their use of guns reflects those goals. I think Space Marine's problem was that it upped the difficulty curve just a tad too much. Or at the very least, underestimated the lethality of giant bullet-shaped grenades built to penetrate enemies before they explode. But that seems to be a common theme in 40K video games.
@IntrovertedRenegade11 жыл бұрын
ISchulz both of you are playing round the nit and picky aspects, yest being hit in the middle of an execute is annoying, but it did once give me a very cool death sequence where I flung my axe into an orc nobz head then we both toppled end over end off a bridge, one thing that did happen whilst in execute mode was a small glitch, where if an orc picks you up and throws you to the ground you stand up at an angle, and cannot remove yourself from that angle till it happens again. Also the voice acting of the warboss and the Chaos lord guy is pretty shabby, the combo counter is a bit dull with X,X,X,Y,B being the biggest combo you can get out of it all and the final boss fight is a pile of rushed dog turd, also the story line happens in about 7 other 40K games and the price for the DLC's and the game and being able to level up your character makes it a squandering for your money because you like the franchise type of game. The gore is kind of nice and the destroying chest high walls is all good and fun, but there are too many aspects of the game that stop it from being 4/5 stars.

Personally, when /I/ fire a rocket at a horde of enemies in a game, I'd much rather there not be any mopping involved. I don't know, I just don't enjoy gore in games. Not because I'm squeamish or give a single fuck about who else might see the same game I'm playing regardless of their age, I just don't like it. I like the violence, but not the gore. And before you say anything about how violence with a lack of gore is violence with a lack of realism, we're talking about VIDEO GAMES, the sole purpose of which is to provide a means of ESCAPING reality. I don't WANT to play a realistic game, I want to play a game where I can blow up a mountain of grotesque monstrosities with a handheld nuke and have the subsequent rain of dead monsters consist of sparkles and in-game currency instead of blood and guts. Why? That's just what I like. I'm not promoting censorship because I'm worried about corrupting kids who are so incredibly innocent and pure, I just want to play a game in which I can be having the most amount of fun with what I personally enjoy. Okay? Okay.
