I replaced the coolant sensor AND ALL the coolant hoses last July when I replaced the timing chains, tensioners, guides, water pump and thermostat. Lota parts, lota work. Done with the tensioner problem. The hoses and sensors (oh ya, the two cam sensors also) are peace of mind! I wanna see part 2!

Those Pathfinders from 2006-2011 are a beast off road 7 seat SUV. They are bullet proof and the 4WD system works awesome. I have one and take it to everywhere and it can take a beat. The only stuff that any Nissan owner with the VQ40 engine (V6 4.0L) automatic is to bypass the transmission coolant system. Removed the hoses from the OEM radiator and add an external transmission oil cooler and that's it. You will save your transmission from any catastrophic failure. The OEM radiators on those vehicles are well known of internal failure that it mixes the coolant with the transmission oil and push that coolant to the inside of the transmission and it destroy all the clutches, rubber seal and solenoids. And there is no way to know that happened until your transmission quit. Beside that easy and cheap fix if you do it before it happens you have a real reliable SUV that will last very long time with out any issues. Just like any other vehicle just make sure you do the proper preventive maintenance and keep the regular service done on time. Looking fwd to see the fix.

Kept on cranking until it started, but my idle was all messed up and driving was all weird! But I did notice my temp gage was not working. I did the wiggle test, everything was back to normal. A week later. It did the same thing. I checked the sensor, good ohms, etc, but the plug was messed up, like pried up etc. I got a another pigtail from junk yard, cut the old one of and splice into it. Problem went away, never came back ever. Hahaha!! No parts cannon required, except for the pigtail which cost me nothing lol

Wow glad you're okay. I believe you know it, but i remember my old 02 Ford focus cuts out fuel to couple of sylinders when it's overheats. It's a safety thing. I experienced that when i changed the coolant and i had trouble to bleed the system. The air got trapped and i had trouble to get it out, was forced to take a drive with it to try to free up the air bubble and then it got to hot. In the end i got the air out of the coolant system and no damage was done fortunately. Ironically it was the overheating that got the air out. Wish you good hunting.

F150 had an odd overheat code stored in it and it wasn't in my $7 scanner booklet either. so I had to write it down, come home and look it up. Their strategy was to shift it into a 4 cylinder by inhibiting the injection of fuel every other round and alternate the dead set of cylinders. Well nobody complained of this so I assumed it was just a case of grounding of the temperature sender. Never came back either. But I would have never guessed that it would do such a thing in the first place.

It doesn't matter if it is your fault that the coolant hose broke, or even if you could do anything about it. What matters is are you able to explain it to the customer, or is it easier to hide the price in the labor, since you were very quick with the diagnosis?

If I was the customer, I'd want to see the video first. After watching the video, I'd be willing to pay for the part/labor. I guess it goes into "limp in" with reduced power and odd running. I've seen the temp gauge go up and down quickly only once on an old Escort. It was 0 degrees F out and the stat would let some water through quickly hit by very cold air hitting the rad. . The stat would snap shut and repeat with gyrations in the analog temp gauge. Old stat I guess. Stats used to be a "rubber" seal containing an expanding wax material. 170k is a long time. May be a contributor. Even with the wiggle test.
@Google_Is_Evil5 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't start firing my parts cannon before I have visually verified that the short doesn't occur because of a frayed wire hitting the chassis when you wiggle. The sensor low and high errors together can not yet be explained nor were both recreated, unless you assume (dangerous) that they were set by a mechanic unplugging the sensor and then not resetting the codes after.

Not too long ago I was simply changing the oil on a 2006 Mercedes CLS55 AMG. The filter cartridge is on top near a very small coolant line from the upper radiator hose to the overflow bottle. I just bumped it with my filter wrench and the tiny plastic fitting snapped off and shot hot coolant everywhere. Crap! I went to remove the tiny hose from the overflow bottle so I could replace it and the overflow bottle fitting area started to crumble and disintegrate while just pulling up the metal clip. Needless to say I was pretty frustrated having taken a car that was just in for an oil change to broken down until the next day when I could get parts from Mercedes. I did not eat that. Wasn't my fault. Stuff happens.

What can people do if they can't even rely on their dealer to know how to repair a vehicle? Something is wrong with the vehicle design and manufacturing process if it takes a rocket scientist to diagnose the problem!
@Sagittarius-885 жыл бұрын
There's a multitude of issues with the repair industry these days. The largest issue is it just isn't worth the time and effort to become an auto mechanic these days. I spent 25 years in the private repair sector before I finally got out of that side of the industry. Now, I work for a major auto auction company, on the wholesale side of things. I work less hours, have better health benefits, and make more money than I would in the private sector. Best part of all, the vehicles we work on get sold at the auction and go away forever, regardless of what kind of issues they have. I wouldn't recommend becoming an auto mechanic to anyone these days. No way in hell I'd ever return to the private repair sector. It simply isn't worth it. To be fair, there's nothing wrong with a little do it yourself know how, but the simple truth is, the automotive repair industry simply doesn't pay anywhere close to what it should. As far as dealerships, they'll pretty much hire any warm body that comes through the door, throw some training at them, and hope things work out. That's pretty much your state of affairs with the automotive repair industry these days. In a nutshell, it sucks. But hey, if your local grease monkey is ASE certified, he's got qualifications, right? Lmao..

I've worked at a dealership and they don't do anything special there. They're only as good as their brightest tech, which will never be anyone other than the ones that happen to apply for the job.
