The ever-polarizing Paddy Pimblett split the fanbase in half from the very first octagon appearance. Some predict the Brit will soon rise to the top of the lightweight division. Others call him a UFC hype job, criticize his antics and dietary habits. It's time to take a close look at Paddy Pimblett's career, full of flying submissions and ruthless finishes.

If Paddy has good coaches they'll train him to initiate scrambles as much as humanly possible - I've rarely seen a fighter look so comfortable and at ease in scrambles like Paddy. His best offense on the feet or ground both come from his insane ability to continuously scramble, create submission attempts, and to throw combinations while moving, without gassing himself out. He's certainly not the most technical but his instincts are incredibly good.

Highly skilled is relative, he has good Jiu-jitsu but he has got horrible striking, holds his chin up too high and isn't that good at taking people down. @loudenvier
@loudenvier Жыл бұрын
@@rustygray5058 The important aspect in classifying a throw (in jiu-jitsu and judo, cant't talk about freestyle wrestling) is the center of rotation. You can see that when he throws the center of rotation is on the leg, not the hips, hence it's classified as a leg throw in jiu-jitsu and judo. But classifying throws correctly is hard. Most jiu-jitsu schools will classify seoi-nage (over-the-should arm drag) as a hip throw when in fact it is a hand technique. A wrestling hip toss, in judo, is normally called either o-goshi or harai-goshi (goshi=hip), the center of rotation is over the hips, and most people will fail to differentiate it from ashi-guruma because of the leg position which is similar in harai-goshi. You can call these throws hip-tosses if your discipline calls it that way, I'm not complaining! But it's not the hips that are the principal aspect of these throws he is doing, it's the legs ;-)

@@joshf-w9602 you are describing a play by book fighters, yes they are efficient until they loose their cool and get drawn down. Defense nowadays is pretty rare outside of grappling. Sure we can say keeping someone at range is a defense but outside of that most of the top 15 ain't playing defense outside of that in UFC nowadays anyways coz it is considered boring and boring doesn't make money. Sure if you go for the people that aren't born to fight, they have to play by book. You train really hard to do everything the recipe have you prescribed to get high (*won't be enough to be a champ tho). Seems simple but it's of course not. Take for example Islam Makhachev which for the UFC title paddy would have to fight. Islam is a natural born fighter with the finest coaches and fighters around the world has seen. Does he really play by book ? No, defense? Not really, it just looks more calm, it doesn't mean he's a defender. But he always looks to punch at the same time as their opponent and just win with the guts. But if he had fought with paddy, as much as I love paddies brawling style, Islam right now is just 3 levels above in everything except for grappling in which they are even or a little in Islams advantage as well in my opinion. Paddy would need to get a lot higher conditioning, increase VO2max to another level and keep grinding grappling to the point he would not stand for entire 5 rounds and only then in my opinion he would have chance to win against Islam.

@thepeterpot I'm a fan of paddy the baddy. I think he's entertaining and I admire the charity work he does for his home city. I was a fan before he came to the ufc. However, I'm also a realist. Paddy has had a run of luck so far . He can't keep leaving his chin so exposed, and he can't rely solely on his world class ground game. He needs more power and more snap , better footwork and better striking . I don't see him being a champ in the ufc, but I see him getting pretty close. In terms of achievements, I'd expect to see him around the nate Diaz, Dustin poirier kinda journey,,, close a few times, but never quite got it .
