As a football official myself, i can count on one hand how many times Ive been knocked down. Most of the time its just bad luck. The umpire position is the most vulnerable. The HL and LJ positions always stay 8-12 yards behind the play to avoid being hit by tacklers or blockers

+Nick Shivell, actually, it's not anyone's fault. In the game, the officials are considered part of the playing surface of the field. Whether they move, stand, run, or get plowed, it's all the same thing. The only exception to that would be the two high school players who intentionally targeted the official. They have been suspended from school and are ineligible to play.
